"I can't bend the tube reliably with a shot, its a quarter inch, and hitting the head of a motar with a shot wont set it off. Gotta do it the hard way. I think that would be at least me to volunteer, I will turn invisable to get a good shot with a thrown grenade or two. Someone cover me?

Dutch
Dutch continues to use his Eagle Eye, looking for Japanese troops emplaced to defend the mortar teams and the airfield. IF/When he spots any, he'll call out locations to the rest of the crew.

"Thanks Gurung".

Elias low crawls the distance until hestarts to feel uncomfortable.

He will them concentrage and turn invisible. stand up and look around.

Move slowly to the back of both the emplacemants and decide how best to attack.

If he can throw both grenades, one into each pit at the same time and feel he can do it, he will.

Or he will attack one and them the other.

Elias.

Gurung

Gurung will crawl along to get in a position where he can lay some cover fire on the mortar position, hopefully with some cover at least when prone.

He will activate his armor talent once Elias goes invisible.

Acme

"Hey. Does anyone know how to operate those mortars? I'd love to see the looks on their faces if we turn one on them."

He nods as Elias and Gurung head off. "We should follow at support range and engage once he starts the party. Let's go."

Approximately 8:25 AM, May 5th, 1943; Bloody Bay, Platok Island, Solomon Islands Chain, South West Pacific

As the Marines of SST 4 and the 8 still 'up and at 'em' Marines of SGT Havelsky's squad got ready to move into action; the battle for 'Bloody Bay' ratcheted up in intensity....

'Ski' got Acme's attention and said; "Skipper, I can hear those 'Tony' planes' engines revving up...we gotta do something about that quick....but I get it, we gotta take out those mortars and MG or they'll tear us up as we cross that 100 yards of open space. Damn.....okay, I'll have Lefty take 3 Marines and see what they can do, while I take the other 3 and back up you guys and get these 'stove-pipes' (I.e. Mortars) and MG taken care of." He turns to a big Marine Corporal carrying a Browning Automatic Rifle. "Left; take Reyes, McKinnon and Schneider and try to go put some Nip planes out of commission while the rest of deal with this group. Watch yourselves". "You got it Sarge", and the Marines begin to break up and get ready for action....

Meanwhile, Tucker and an Armored Gurung move quickly and quietly to flank the Japanese Mortar Teams' positions, with Elias tapping into his Talent Power and turning himself Invisible as they get around behind the position. There are two pits, each with a big 81mm Mortar being tended to 5 IJA soldiers. A Japanese SGT with a Carbine and a Sword stands in the Middle, peeking over the Earth berm and calling back to a Rifleman, who calls back to the Mortar Teams, clearly with adjustments as they drop new rounds into the tubes of the weapons. Finally, a pair of Soldiers has a position with a firing hole in the wall for the Type 96 LMG on its bipod to open fire here and there....with occasional changes of its top mounted, curved magazine taking place....

Gurung drops low and takes aim at the leader with his SMLE as the invisible Tucker moves to within 10 yards and then primes a grenade and tosses it towards the closer Mortar Pit, dropping to the sand as he does so. His throw is perfect and the weapon goes off with a blast that either eliminates or badly wounds all 5 IJA troops in the Mortar Pit and suddenly the Japanese troops are abuzz as everyone grabs weapons and starts shouting and looking around....

Gurung squeezes the trigger and puts a .303 round into the Japanese SGT's head, dropping him to the ground and never to rise again and then he works the bolt to chamber another round and right after he does so, he feels like he is hit in the back by a blazing hot truck and then everything goes black*......

An invisible Elias Tucker feels several Talent Powers being activated and/or used and the bright flash of light causes him to turn and see the scaled armored form of Gurung get engulfed in the Ray Beam from the Japanese Talent, who had cut loose from the top of the Berm Wall protecting the Airfield over a 100 yards away and he was enraged and terribly worried at the same time....but luckily he saw that the Gurkha's chest still moved and his scales faded, so clearly he was unconscious, but alive.....

With his Eagle Eye Power still working, Dutch got a 'front row seat view' to the wild action taking place all around him and he noted a pair of arm-band wearing Japanese Talents pop up over the Wall of the Berm protecting the Airfield; one cut loose with the yellow-orange beam that slammed into a prone Gurung and caused his teammate to fall unconscious....or worse. The other had a no-sh#t BOW AND ARROW in his hands and he send an arrow streaking down some 100 yards and into the center chest of one of the 4 Marines rushing towards the airfield. The Marine CPL, 'Lefty', roared in anger and sent a burst of rounds back his way, but the rounds just smashed into the wall of the berm as the IJA Talents ducked back down again. The other 3 Marines kept up their charge towards the Airfield though....

Meanwhile, SGT Haveksky and 3 other Marines, accompanied by Corman the Corpsman; raced forward towards the Mortars/MG position. Havelsky and 2 of his Fireteam fired their M1 Garands, all at the MG team and managed to drop both Gunner and Loader with some accurate fire. The lone IJA Rifleman who was not in the Mortar Pit nor a part of the MG team fired his Arisaka in reply and one of the Marines dropped to the beach and curled into a writhing ball of curse-ridden pain. The last Marine of 'Ski's' team hurled a grenade that was just a bit off, but still exploded with enough force to drop 3 of the second Mortar Team and wounded the two survivors. Those two wounded survivors were snatching up Arisaka Carbines and the Rifleman worked the bolt of his standard, long Arisaka Rifle to take aim yet again.....

Chief Fred 'Mediocre' Roker wasn't quite sure what to do at the moment, so he just stayed put, looking to Acme and Dutch for guidance. While he didn't have Dutch's enhanced sense Talent Power, he could see that while it looked like the Mortar/MG position would be taken pretty quickly, that Blaster Guy and now a.....Japanese Robin Hood type?....were probably going to be able to take a heavy toll on the poor Marines of Lefty's team and his teammates out in the open....

Captain Acme had gathered up his gear and was starting to move to be in a position to back up Tucker, Gurung and Havelsky when all the action around him exploded and he saw the ray gun blast hit Gurung squarely in the back. Corman was gone in an instant, rushing forward and sliding down to get right next to the Gurkha. In the other direction, he saw and felt the two IJA Talents on the berm wall and saw while 'Ray Gun' was hitting Gurung, another Talent with a Bow and Arrow took out one of the 4 Marines Ski had detached to take out the planes....which was part of his primary mission and as the SGT mentioned, he could definitely hear the Engines starting to warm up. Various options raced thru his mind on the best way to take out the planes....

If he got close enough, he could of course charge them up to explode....or just use his rocks/grenades to do the same thing.......he could try to use the 81mm Mortars as they could arc fire over the wall.......both methods had the same problem though.....those IJA Talents on the Wall had open fields of fire on them.......what to do, what to do....

OOC: Gurung is Knocked out for the next 3 rounds; when he comes too, he will be at -1D for quite some time and in particular, he has a badly aching/bruised back. His Armor is really all that kept him alive.

There are 3 total IJA Troops still at the Mortar/MG position; two of whom are wounded.

The Talents on the Berm Wall by the AFLD are about 100 yards away from Acme, Roker and Dutch and about 120 yards away from Tucker and Gurung.

Acme

"Keep those bastards pinned down! If they so much as poke an ear above I want it shot off!" He calls out to the shooters in the group.

"Dutch! Remember something about shutting down enemy talents? A contest of wills, I think. If you can lock eyes with them, I seem to remember."

Acme yells at the mortar group "Get those things firing on the airfield. You can tear up the tarmac even if you don't hit the planes."

"I'm going to try and create some cover." Marvin charges a rock and tosses it as far as he can in front of him while running behind it. He hopes to use the explosion as a visual cover but not explode himself.

Those damn Germans.....first they bomb Pearl Harbor and now this! :)

Just being silly.....I THINK you meant Japanese Robin Hood, but hey, Roker may be a bit geo-graphically confused! :)

Approximately 8:30 AM, May 5th, 1943; Bloody Bay, Platok Island, Solomon Islands Chain, South West Pacific

On a hot, humid morning, on the reddish-hued beaches of a tiny island in the Solomons, an intense battle continued....

Near the Mortar Pits, Manny Corman rushed out and took a look at the unconscious and badly bruised Gurung and was relieved that the Talent was alive and relatively well.....he reached into his kit to find some pain killers for the Gurkha Talent when he came to....

Dutch Van Horn used his big Bren LMG and cut loose a pair of 5 round bursts of .303 rounds and he chopped down two of the Japanese troops still standing at the Mortar Pits. The last IJA solider still on his feet managed to put a 6.5mm round into one of SGT Havelsky's Marines, wounding the PFC, but that solider was in turn quickly cut down by 'Ski and co. A pair of 81mm Mortars could now be utilized, though it would take several men to turn the big tubes around and then get them sighted in and firing on the IJA Airfield. The veteran Marine NCO 'Ski', called out for his men (minus the wounded PFC Fitzhugh) to start working on JUST that.....

The invisible Elias Tucker turned and sighted down his Springfield Rife's scope, scanning the top of the Berm wall and he saw the Japanese Talent with the large, re-curved bow and arrow taking aim and then flinching just a bit as he let fly an arrow and then a bright flash caused him to quickly move across the berm wall and he saw the 'ray gun' Talent cut loose with his 'blaster' power and poor CPL 'Lefty' was fried with his BAR dropping to the sand next to him....

Fred 'Mediocre' Roker took aim at the 'Japanese Robin Hood' some 100 yards away with his little M1 Carbine and while the Radioman was a pretty good shot, the range was just too long for him to land a hit. HOWEVER, his near miss caused the IJA Talent to flinch JUST a bit when he launched his arrow and instead of slamming thru the torso of one of 'Ski's' Marines, it instead just lanced thru his shoulder, dropping him to the ground, howling in pain, but alive.....

Of the 3 Marines still standing out near the Berm; first poor 'Lefty' was engulfed in a blast of light from the 'ray gun' Talent and the Marine was quickly transformed into a burnt, crisp....his large Browning Automatic Rifle falling to the ground in a clatter. Of the other two, one was hit thru the shoulder by the 'Robin Hood' Talent and the last fully healthy Marine fired his M1 Garand at the archer Talent and had the satisfaction of hitting him and seeing him cry out in pain and duck down behind the earthen wall....

Captain Marvin Acme rushed forward, drawing forth one of this three rocks as he did so and charging it up with his Talent Power and hurling it some 40 yards ahead of him and to one side, near none of his fellow Marines. The weapon exploded with a bright flash of light and the Marine Officer used the distraction to race forward some 25 yards in a quick dash.....

The Talents of SST 4 felt a strange power being used, but couldn't see where or to what effect the Power being employed was being used or what its impact was....

OOC: Okay, Gurung has been out for 2 rounds, he'll groggily come to next round....an NPC Corman is with him and Dutch is nearby (I wasn't sure quite what to do with him, so I hope the actions I took were okay)....they and Havelsky's team are close to the 81mm Mortars. It will take at least 3 or 4 people to move the weapon and fire it at the Airfield (uses the Heavy Weapons skill). 120 yards from the Berm Wall

Perhaps 20 yards from them are Roker and an Invisible Tucker. (about 100 yards from the Berm Wall)

Finally, some 75 yards from the Berm Wall is Acme....ahead of him are a Wounded Marine and one Marine in good shape.

No shot I assume, no probolem.

Elias now has a better idea of thier areas, where they were before, where they just showed themselves, and he assumes they wont step on dead bodies.
*'That leaves about 2 5 yard stretches, and they are not next to each other when they fire.* Elias thinks to himself.

Elias throws off the invisibility so he can concentrate a bit, focuses on the left area and will shoot at a hopefully jumping up solider.

Acme

Marvin repeats his diversion advance and calls out to the nearby marines. "Follow me! Use the blast as cover and lay some fire down as we go."

He keeps his eyes peeled for the beaming talent, hoping to lock eyes with him and shut him down.

Approximately 8:30 AM, May 5th, 1943; Bloody Bay, Platok Island, Solomon Islands Chain, South West Pacific

On the tiny island of Platok in the Solomon Islands chain, the battle raging between the Allies and the Japanese forces of the Axis, continued to rage....

Captain Marvin Acme charged up his second of three spherical rocks; turning it into a make-shift grenade/bomb with his Talent Power and hurled it out in front of him as he waited for the blast and rushed forward towards the two surviving members of 'Ski's detachment and he got to within about 15 yards from their position as he saw the healthy Marine sling his M1 Carbine and draw a 1911 .45 pistol and begin to scale the thick, tall berm wall to see the airfield on the opposite side while his wounded buddy kept his M1 trained towards the top of the Berm in case either the 'Robin Hood' or the 'Ray Gun Beam' Talents showed themselves....

Neither did, but instead, Marvin could feel a new Talent Power being utilized as the Marine reached the top of the wall and suddenly that Marine let out a bellow of anger and fear as the wall suddenly collapsed in a 10 foot wide section, dropping the Marine to the opposite side, even as the earth from other parts of the wall shifted to reform the barrier. Out of sight, the familiar 'Ray Beam' Talent power could be felt/heard by Acme and the healthy Marine's yell was cut short....

Fred Roker and Elias Tucker both kept their weapons trained on the wall top, but neither of the Japanese Talents who had been firing from atop it moments before made an appearance and the Sailor and Coastie instead saw their leader rushing all the way forward with no one else on the team backing him up....

Gurung slowly blinked his eyes open, seeing the form of Corpsman Manny Corman smiling at him and telling him; "You're gonna have some bruises for awhile there buddy, but you'll live." Turning his head, the Gurkha could see Dutch and SGT Havelsky and a few other marines near a captured Japanese 81mm Mortar that was now pointing towards the Japanese airfield behind the berm wall and the Marines trying to figure out how to best operate the weapon....

Dutch Van Horn kept his Bren Gun trained towards the IJA Talents to see if they would try to fire on his fellows, but they never showed themselves and out of the corner of his eye he could see both Gurung blinking himself back to consciousness AND 'Ski and the other Marines man-handling the captured Japanese 81mm Mortar to point towards the Airfield. The veteran NCO though could quickly tell that NONE of the Marines had ever really worked with Mortars though from the way they were handling the shells and the weapon itself.....

*Okay, Acme is now just 25 yards away from the Berm Wall....he saw the healthy Marine climb to the top and then he felt a Talent Power use his ability to cause the wall to in essence, pull him in and then seal back again behind him and then the Ray Beam Talent fire.....though he can't see the results. There is a wounded Marine about 10 yards from him.

Roker and Tucker are about 100 yards from the wall and watching closely, but don't see any enemies on top of the wall.

Gurung is coming out of being K.O.'d and he can act, but at a -1D for awhile due to bruises and aches. He can see Van Horn and the Mortar Crew some 10 yards away.....Van Horn is only about 5 yards away from the Mortar Team.....both have 4D in Heavy Weapons.....just thought I'd mention that....
