Re: Intermission in Millhaven And Journey to Stomanell City
Pebble stares at the creatures as they show off their powerful weapons and capabilities. He blinks and looks around him, "A horse seems fair, right?...right??!"

Re: Intermission in Millhaven And Journey to Stomanell City
out loud as if to himself...
1) A draft horse is about 40gp at market. That's almost 8gp per head in Toll.
2) It's not our horse
3) We'd better ask the owner.
Do you have a moment while we discuss your terms?
And gets the group into a huddle (Whispers)
1) Reject the terms outright and attack now?
2) Appear to accept, lure them down until they are in the stream then attack?
3) Appears to accept, lure them back to the wagon then attack?
4) hand over a horse and walk to the end of the journey?
5) walk away and allow them to negotiate directly with the carter?
I nearly ran out of fingers

Dorath I agree with Traesta, but best if we reject in a way that causes them to show their true numbers. I wonder if "you and what army?" would work?

Igber
The problem with bringing guided weapons like these two is that they tend to want using. Still, at least these walking bushes don't have a huge height advantage.
Conwena - would you care to break the news to these guys?
And with that, Igber steps to place the armoured bodies in the party between him and the locals, picking a sling stone from his pouch as it seems likely that it's about to be needed.

Conweena checks the balance of her battle axe and moves into the front, shield up.
"We arn't giving you anything, now clear out or die!"

Re: Intermission in Millhaven And Journey to Stomanell City
Here's an overall image of the battle area. I've set a faint yellow grid at 5'. The creatures visible have been put on the map, though you know there are others, and you're not sure where or how many. The one that has been yelling at you, Jekvut, is on the big rock. I'll post a close-up of your position, and the position of the opponents you can see shortly. Let me know if there are any changes you would like in your starting positions. The road is barely visible in the lower right-hand corner. I've made the trees very transparent so the map is easier to read. Consider any opponents to have 40%-80% 25% - 75% cover for missile weapons. You are approximately 150 ft from your adversaries.
If you are satisfied with this, please post actions, and any required rolls (initiative/attack, etc.)

Closer battle detail.
Assuming everything is acceptable:
Jekvut is defiant: "We keellll you alllll ! You die now!" with that, they charge your position, swinging their maces violently and screaming obscene things in a guttural language you cannot comprehend. Jekvut remains behind overseeing the charge.

Igber
As Igber's sling is not out of range, he will chuck a sling stone at O8.
It went somewhere. Time to re-load.

Dorath notes the one hanging back and makes an effort to target him. Hoping that the others in the party can handle the charging ones.

Re: Intermission in Millhaven And Journey to Stomanell City
Sentinal Harker regarded the brutish man-beasts and grimaced...
"In all things.. the light of truth should shine through our deeds and words.. I too agree 'Hand' Traesta, we should act in good faith to our words and not prove false to our intentions! Truth has always been mine shield in all things Paldon will protect the righteous."
Looking over at the half-men, he nods in acceptance, smiling at Conweena's voiced challenge!
At their cry for blood from the bandit half-men Harker draws his Hand an a half Battle Blade hefting the weapon in two hands, his expression one of grim certainty, "..Let them come to us. Hit them with what ranged weapons you have as they charge. I'll take the center, Conweena my right, Traesta my left. Against these foul half-men stay within 10'ft of my Aura of Protection, Paldon's Grace may guard us from their evil! Dorath, Pebble, and Igber, harry their flanks around the arrowhead of our formation in the center."
Raising his blade high to let the what light can gleam off the battleblede even in the falling rain Harker yells back his own War Cry ~
"Lothron hon galad gal- oiale BRIGHTER!!" {Paldon Lang: May his Light Grow Ever BRIGHTER!!}
And then Harker bolted to meet the charge of the half-man as they closed to melee taking the center of the Battle!

Pebble is little taken aback about the rapid turn of events. It takes him a second to pull himself together and fire!

Re: Intermission in Millhaven And Journey to Stomanell City
While Harker charges to the enemy, the rest of you draw ranged weapons, attempting to pick off your challengers from afar. Unfortunately, they are still just a bit too distant, and your shots are in vain. The humanoids ignore your attacks as most of them run towards you screaming obscene challenges, some in broken common, but most in their own unintelligible guttural language.
By the time you have finished with your ranged attacks, Harker has closed to about 60 ft of the creatures. They will close in the next round, and Harker will be combating eight of them alone unless you follow his lead! The ninth one that was up on the big rock has retreated someplace where you cannot see him.
From this point forward I will need initiative checks as well with all attack rolls. Each opponent is labeled with a number. Please use that to declare your targets as well.
I checked & double checked. Conweena and Pebble have sheaf arrows with a range of 90 ft. They do more damage, but they are heavier, so they do not fly as far. Dorath and Traesta are using sling bullets that fly 120 ft, however Traesta's shot missed, and Jekvut, the one yelling at you from the big rock, is still out of range. Igber is using rocks, so his range is only 70 ft, and he missed too anyway.
If you will find it helpful, I can indicate ranges for your weapons on future maps. Let me know.
I will rule that you realized your range was too great after the first attempt, so you did not waste a second arrow, and Conweena and Pebble can expend the remainder of the round charging which will cover half their normal movement rate (which would be 30 feet for both of them), and they can attempt another shot after that, or continue to close and join Harker in direct melee so he doesn't feel so vulnerable.
Plan to level up while you are in Stomanell City (if you make it there

Pebble charges off behind Harker with sword in hand. "Here we go I guess!" he whispers loudly to himself.
