OOG: Does Prerna recognize anyone in the vid?Tiglath wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 2:42 amLiv/Ensign Mallory shows a (thankfully very badly shot) vid track of a victim of torture apparently being revived and then further questioned. The footage is image only (again thankfully) with no sound component and may have been taken in one of The Purge's cells on the Bartizan's third floor "prison/hospital" deck. It is not pleasant viewing. In fact its only redeeming feature is its brevity.

Frank watches the vid from over Prerna's shoulder.
"I remember that, no doubt I'll remember what happened on that floor for a a very long time, unfortunately. We didn't manage to identify the guy, poor sod"

Roll(2d6)+1:
6,1,+1
Total:8
The vid is more or less the head and shoulders of the victim with folk partially visible in the frame and background. Prerna doesn't recognise the victim facially or any of those partially seen who are involved. She does recognise that they are wearing Purge overalls and also what is a brief shot of a forearm with 1188th "tiger stripe" camo.

Jakob relaxed. He gave Liv's vid a look, on the off chance that he could help.
Recognize (Not using Recon or Int) [2d6] = 10
He was pleased beyond belief. Liv was right, he might make a good intel scoop, but he'd never make it as a real spy. At least not without a lot of work and training. He wasn't a natural at thinking one thing and acting like something else. That Liv broke cover with the team made his day. And his night. Pretty much covered the entire week, and the Imperial Standard Year was looking very good.

Prerna's face hardens as she catches sight of the NCO's armor. She lays her hand on her comrade's shoulder for a moment. "It's filed under unfinished business, Colonel." She emphasizes his rank; he needs to hear it more, in her opinion. "We will find them one day."

Frank
A shadow flickers over Frank's face "Thank you Major. You're right, we will find them and they will face the justice they deserve"

From the back of the viewing queue Beau pipes up "I'm not sure I'll rightly enjoy the experience twice. Lost me a fair amount of sleep with all the terrible ..."
Re: A Passage to Inchin
Frank seems recover himself
"I don't see the need for you, or anyone, to go through all that again Corporal, it was bad enough the first time around. It was only myself, Voss and Beau in that area, and I remember well enough." He looks at agent Liv "I'm sorry we can't be of more help"

Alas, at first scan Jakob draws a blank but there's a glimmer of recognition. He's sure he's seen the guy somewhere before ... some connection with the starport?"Leitz wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 3:00 pm Jakob relaxed. He gave Liv's vid a look, on the off chance that he could help.

Ensign Mallory beats him to the punch and says "Urvash Gudrun" then quickly adds "We've ... um ... been looking at him in connection with drug running into the Imperium. Thank you all for trying to add some connections and background. Must go ... ah ... got to prep for planetfall!"
Re: A Passage to Inchin
Please feel free to finish off any and all business here before being distracted away to the delights of a new thread Inchin: Planetfall.
I thank you.

Re: A Passage to Inchin
Jess has a question that she doesn't remember being addressed.
Captain, are any of your vessels armed? The Launch and Cutter in particular. Thinkin' of fire support if we need to get these people out of more trouble than we're built for. I mean, even the threat of a missile barrage from orbit, or a strafing pass with a ship-grade Laser on the Cutter, would be enough to avoid a fight, a lot of the time.

Re: A Passage to Inchin
Captain Alvarez replies "Alas, no and in any event I fear our launch would make a very poor fighter". He gives an apologetic shrug "There should be little call for it in the merchant trade. The Spinward Star is armed - three turrets one with lasers, one with missiles and one with sandcasters but we are not a military vessel. Company rules of engagement are strictly limited to self defence. The cutter was rented for this mission and is unarmed".

Re: A Passage to Inchin
The missile turret'll do, as a threat. Folks I threaten with it don't need ta know your launch protocol. I'm looking for intimidation here, not Close Air support. Idea is ter make the other guy back down rather 'n bring your fire on their head. Knowin' your capability makes the bluff believable. Pity 'bout the small craft bein' unarmed, but we don't need to tell the locals that, eh? Quick dip into the atmo, just to show they're there, might be enough.
Re: A Passage to Inchin
Captain Alvarez looks more than a little aghast "Indeed ... er ... Sergeant? However, Mertactor Lines policy is to not fire on or threaten to fire on a planet hosting us. Even a D Class facility!" With trembling hands he lights a cigarette muttering "Not the trip to give up!". He then asks "Which piece of this acidic dust ball do you think we should target so as to avoid actually improving it? With the greatest respect as to the tasking of my small craft my priority is to obtain fuel rather than assist your operations on the ground. I will, of course, see what I can do".
He gives Jess his best "Captain's smile for steerage passengers" but there's the distinct idea that he's checking you out for possession of olive green paint with which to repurpose his beloved liner!

Re: A Passage to Inchin
Don't worry Captain, I don't want you to do anything. Or threaten anyone. Leave that to me. Just like to base my lies in reality. Easier for a bloke to believe there's a missile aimed at 'em if a scan of the ship shows there's a rack of the things up there.
Re: A Passage to Inchin
Captain Alvarez seems greatly relieved "Well, unless they have a telescope on the up port for visual tracking I believe anything you care to tell them will exceed their ability to verify it!"
Re: A Passage to Inchin
Earlier in the week
some time after reviewing the video from Agent Ellis
Jakob found Frank between training sections. "Hey Sir, can we talk for a minute? Alone?"
A suitable place was found. Jakob's body language was concerned, but not problematic.
"I'd like to officially go on record as being significantly involved with our Imperial Navy liaison. That probably isn't a surprise." He paused, and lowered his voice. "The problem is that she has some health issues, and this mission came up before she could take time off and recover. I'm not exactly sure what her assignment is for this little trip; but she feels like she can execute her orders. I don't think she'd object to an assist, and it might help us firm up with her chain of command."
"Can I have your approval to assist as needed, as long as it does not interfere with my unit tasking?"

Frank with Jakob
"I think it's safe to say your relationship with the agent has been noticed by most of the officers, Lieutenant."
Frank pauses and looks directly at Jakob.
"This isn't me calling your integrity into question and I'll only mention it this one time, but I have a duty to point out that your girlfriend is an Imperial Navy Intelligence officer and we are not an imperial unit. Sometimes we may have a client that does not sit well with imperial sensibilities and I expect you to apply appropriate discretion Lieutenant. " he pauses for a second and then continues "...with that all said I have no problems with you assisting her as long as your duties are not affected. When did she become our navy liason? Is this an official appointment? It's the first I've heard of it"

Re: A Passage to Inchin
"Understood sir, and thank you. I loved my time in the Marines, and I did my best to serve well. However, that chapter of my life is closed, and this one is what's happening right now. I don't foresee a conflict of interest, but if that happens I'll bring it to you and abide by your decisions."
Jakob smiled. "The word 'our' wasn't official. Hopeful possessiveness on my part. Still, there is a big question floating around that worries me. Exactly why are all these people going to Inchin at the same time we are? Outside of the Dips, everyone else seems a bit unlikely, on the coincidental scale. I don't know what's going down, but my guess is that we're going to earn our pay."
