The rest of the day passes quickly. As the terrain becomes more hilly and what remains of a trail vanishes, the horses slow down drastically, picking their way gingerly around roots and loose soil. Again, Bregalad and Lanny work well together, each compensating for the others' lapses and misses. The party only manages an additional two hours of travel before the setting sun forces them to set camp.

Let me know if you guys ware doing anything different as far as the watch order, preparation, etc., as well as who is sleeping in armor.

Bregalad the elf

When Bregalad's watch is over, he will remove his magical armor and give it to warrioress. In elvish, "Here, Innana. Keep this until our hunt has ended. You must not perish again from the claws of this beast."

"Gods willing, the cat will give us this night's rest before it hungers once more."

The elf will don his old plate mail in the morning. He will also memorize Magic Missile x 2 and Mirror Image. For their next encounter, he plans on doing as much damage as possible, as quickly as possible!

Lanny the Elf

As camp is set, Lanny retires to his tent to study his spellbook for a couple of hours.

"Bregalad, your knowledge of magic, like your knowledge of nature, surpasses mine once again! I will try to catch up on my studies so that we are both ready with the Mirror Image spell."

Lanny will NOT sleep in his armor tonight, only because he needs to be fresh in the morning to learn new spells. Those spells will be:

Level 1: Magic Missile, Magic Missile
Level 2: Invisibility

However, he will first check with Drudsa to make sure that at least one member of the party has a Sleep spell prepared, in case they should meet the doppleganger again.

Drudsa the dabbler

"My brave companions, I just had an idea. I have not yet cast the invisibility spell I had prepared this morning. This enchantment works on objects just as it works on creatures. If we are preparing any alarm contraptions, as we did in our recent outdoor nights, I can make it invisible once it is in place. We just have to remember where we have laid it so we don't forget to reclaim it next morning if it remains undisturbed. Nothing groundbreaking perhaps but it might make the alarm more effective and help waking everyone up quickly."

The mage will also study if there is sufficient time for that.

Innana looks at Bregalad as he hands over the top piece of his armor, "I will only wear it during my watch, otherwise I would feel better if you would wear it. I am feeling stronger, and almost back to my normal strength. I think I would feel safer if you wore this on your watch as well. I do thank you for your kindness, as you are always the gentleman.

Innana puts in a few hours of sword play with Thordin in hopes of mastering his reflective techniques.

Lanny smiles and stifles a laugh as he watches the back and forth between Bregalad and Innana over the magical plate mail armor. He walks over to Innana, places an arm around her shoulder, and leads her a short ways away from his fellow elf.

"You see, Innana, we elves are very particular in the art of gift giving... Such gifts come from the heart and should not be refused... He knows quite well you will need that armor if you and Thordin will be leading us in the fight against the Great Cat... Oh and also..."

He glances over his shoulder at Bregalad to make sure he is not listening.

"...I think he likes you..."

Lanny gives Innana a wink and a reassuring slap on the back before abruptly returning to his tent and to his studies.

Aquar helps build the camp fire, set up the rope-and-pans perimeter, eats rations, prays and sleeps in his armor.

If anyone is down any HP, let me know and I'll use my CLW before going to bed.

Rhys comfortably goes to bed without any armour on. He sleeps with his sword unsheathed and laying by his side.

Lanny looks up from his spellbook, smiles and shrugs and shakes his head a little to indicate he knows nothing official on the matter, then returns to his studies.

Innana the Fighter:

"Naaaaaaasa", Innana smiles, and punches Lanny lightly on the shoulder. "I think you are a romantic Lanny. Bregalad is handsome to be sure, but we are so very different. I have a temper that outweighs any of my so called good attributes. I think I could put white hairs, even on an elf. It will be sweet to think about, but I may have to question his wisdom if he chooses to like me in such a way. Now Lanny, don't you start anything by saying anything to Bregalad. It will kill him to know what we are talking about. "
Innana has extra energy as she practices swords, but she keeps getting caught off guard. Innana has a good talking to herself about keeping her brain with the task at hand.

2:00 am

The evening passes uneventfully; a secure campsite is found and those studying do so. Unfortunately, Innana is unable to grasp some of the more complicated feints and parries that comprise a higher level of understanding on the sword.

It is during the third watch, when Rhys and Aquar are on duty, that the two are struck by the strange stillness in the air. Peering out beyond the radius of light cast by the fire the two guards notice a large pair of luminous green eyes staring at them from some distance off the ground.

Okay, the giant cat has returned. Nobody is surprise, so if I can get actions from Rhys and Aquar please? Also refer to the following to wake the others:

I am going to say that both characters can rouse two other PCs in one round, or a character can shout to try and rouse everyone (but there will only be a % chance of success for each PC). The other characters will not be able to act in this round; characters that are woken in this round will be able to act during the next round.

Rhys the Traveler

Positioned nearest Innana and Thordin (intentionally so), Rhys kicks the soles of their feet and says,"Awaken! It has returned!"

He points his sword at the large cat and asks, "Why do you savage these people? Do they wrong you in some way?"

Aquar, armored cleric

Aquar, hammer and shield in hand, awakens Lanny and Bregalad. "The cat is here!" he yells.

Round One

With a snarl the Best leaps down, into the circle of firelight, raking at Aquar with its massive claws. The cleric is more dexterous than might otherwise be believed, and he escapes injury. Both he and Rhys counteract, but neither are able to damage the furious feline.

Actions for Round Two, please. Note that those indicated as being woken will be able to act in the upcoming Round.

Thordin the dwarf leaps into the fray, eldritch blade edging fury as he swings it as much to harm the creature as to keep it at bay.

"This is the second time we have met, Sauerfang. There will not be a third!"

Sword, +7 to hit, 1d12+3 damage, -2 AC bonus vs. 1 opponent, 1 deflection attempt/round at a 7 or better chance. Thordin will save the deflection attempt for the bite attack.

I would vote for sleeping in armor, but I know the vote is late and I am ok with whatever you rule, TK.

Rhys once again lets the armoires dwarf take the brunt of the attack as he slips to the rear of the beast to attack it's hind quarters.

Innana the Fighter:

Innana jumps out of the tent pumped with adrenaline, and looking like her hair was the thing most pumped with massive, hot energy. Struggling to hold the weapon with an arm that is still tingling from sleep, Innana manages to charge at the Giant Feline with Swift Fang. Innana sees brave Thordin in the front, so Innana steps to the side of the Cat while it is distracted, and swings her sword, keeping her shield in the other hand. Innana learned the hard way to be cautious of the cats sharp claws.

Swift Fang Sword (Basic): +2, 1d8+1 (includes the penalty for silver wire handle)

Bregalad the elf

Bregalad is jostled awake by the cleric, and sees the now familiar chaos around him. He picks his spear and shield, and clanging them together shouts to those still asleep, "Awake, awake! The cat has returned!"

The elf intends to casts Mirror Image this round.
