"Yet avarice is numbered among the sins, but stupidity omitted." ~ Farnum, Deadwood

Splinters fly, as the ships embrace for their cheek to cheek dance. The Maiden's ballista had been aimed for the Corsair's mizzenmast but the sudden meeting of ships caused it to fly off course as one of the pirates aboard the Corsair grabbed two of his fellows, intending to force them to jump the span onto the Maiden. The two actions meet in unison, with the center pirate catching the brunt of the ballista's fury sending him flying upward dragging his two friends behind, though his grip on them quickly loosens and they fall to the Corsair's deck with a crash. The center pirate continues his ascent, his arms and legs flailing like a rather clumsy bird in flight. That flight is quickly ended as the ballista hits the mast causing the pirate ship to lurch once more this time dipping away from the Maiden.

Both ships rock and waves splash over the railings of each, causing unsteadiness from the occupants of both ships though many keep their balance.

Niserie is outlined by falling ash from the burning sails above her and she fires twice at the Mayfly and the woman proves as difficult to hit as her namesake would be with a missile. The woman keeps her balance and shouts to one of her crew, "STODDS TAKE THE WHEEL!" She then leaps aboard the ship as Mave fires her bow, the first shot hitting the woman in midair. She snarls as the arrow hits and she lands on both feet and pulls her cutlass and a buckler with a skull and bones painted on its face. She then starts running towards Nis.

Both Thena and Brynne tumble but quickly rise as Jacinthe who has stayed upright (as any good crusader should) leaps to Aeryn's side and begins to bind his wounds.

Captain Lando tries to rally his sailors to their defense but drops on his ass as the ship rolls. Likewise the witch LeCrux lets out a scream as she falls and rolls toward the railing on the opposite side of the ship. She screams for help as one hand tries to keep a grip on rail.

Several of the Maiden's sailors stand close to Torvik and numerous pirates follow their leader and leap aboard the Maiden, as Torvik's crossbow sends one back over the rail as it hits and knocks him into the sea between the two ships. At the sight of the pirates leaping aboard, Bramsey screams and begins to run away...though his destination seems uncertain.

The half-orc snarls at Dorian, "There is no light for you, only darkness and pain!" But the words barely escape his mouth as Dorian delivers a devastating cut to the half-orc's thigh. Then the ship trembles and Dorian, Athan and the half-orc all fall and begin to roll towards the railing on the opposite side before slamming into the railing which cracks under the pressure leaving all scrambling to stay aboard the ship.

Thunder rolls and lightning lights the whole scene as the two ships swerve towards the storm that has engulfed the other pirate ship.

Torvik doesn't even waste time shaking his head as Bramsey flees like a fool. Reloading to prepare for another shot before likely having to switch to melee with these boarding pirates he fires at the next pirate in line.

Bryne

Bryne looks for the nearest foe who is a clear shot so she doesn't risk hitting one of her allies.

Nis weaves a quick spell of protection and diversion over herself as the enemy leader approaches.

Chan eil nàmhaid fhathast airson dòrn teann,
Ach tha e a 'dol air falbh mar cheò sgapte.
Dè nach robh tuilleadh a 'coinneachadh ris an t-sùil,
Agus feumaidh feart a bhith air an tionndadh an dàrna taobh ...
No foe remains for tightened fist,
Yet fades away like scattered mist.
What was no more meets the eye,
And wrath must needs be turned aside...
The Elf weaves her witchery to evade the Mayfly then moves to assist the Sea-Witch in regaining her hold

====
Nis casts Sanctuary on herself. Enemies wishing to target her save vs spell or they lose track of Nis and cannot attack her. If they make the save they can act normally. Cast time/ speed 4

"I can normally tell how intelligent a man is by how stupid he thinks I am." ~ Cormac McCarthy, All the Pretty Horses

Water rolled both above and below the Maiden's Bounty as it slipped into the edge of the storm and great drops of rain fell upon both ships anointing all who traversed their decks.

Briggs the Shantyman.jpg

Briggs the Shantyman moved to the edge of the Corsair's railing and bringing up his fiddle began to play wildly a jolly tune....
"A pirate's life be filled with strife,
we ain't no singin' fools,
We're sailors first, with a bloody thirst,
for gold doubloons and jewels."

The song seems to embolden the pirates who now press their attacks on the Maiden, many leaping the space between the two ships, though several misjudge the distance and end up dropping into the raging seas below.

One big man, near as big as the half-orc that battles Athan and Dorian leaps and lands in front of Torvik, a leering grin on his face as towers over the dwarven commander. That grin disappears as the commander brings his crossbow to bear and fires point-blank into his face. The force of the shot knocks him backward over the rail and into the churning sea. But two more of the pirates jump to either side of the dwarf and close for melee. A half-elf armed with a club, but nor visible armor and a human woman armed with a gaff hook wearing crude hide armor, her dark skin painted bright colors. He hears a thump behind him as Bramsey skitters to a stop realizing he has nowhere to run.

Thena having righted herself and keeping her balance on the slippery deck grasps the sea-witch LeCrux and pulls her up and back over the railing just in time to see Niserie has come to assist. Nis has only a moment to see Thena and LeCrux, giving the crusader her thanks, before the Mayfly reaches her and brings her cutlass slashing across her back.

Jacinthe finishes binding Aeryn's wound when she too is set upon by two pirates, each circling her and looking for an opening.

Mave hesitates after firing two shots at the Mayfly, both missing the woman. Then a great shadow envelopes her smaller one giving her but a moment to react.

Bryne fires her first shot and the rocking of the boat throws her shot off sending it flying straight into Captain Lando's left buttock. Her second shot is also off but thankfully doesn't hit any of her allies.

Vari too is overwhelmed by adversaries so she switches to her shortsword and strikes out at the nearest but he dodges out of the shortsword's arc and draws his own blade.

The Half-orc who had been clinging to the railing, grunts and pulls himself back over, as Athan does the same. Dorian I will need a strength check to pull yourself back up.

Suddenly the cabins door flies open and Mallorean stands in the opening, a bottle of rum in one hand and his lute in the other shouting, "Keep it down! How's a man supposed to sleep off a hangover?" His mouth drops open as he sees the battle raging aboard the Maiden's deck.

Allies injured: Aeryn (unconscious), Dorian (-9), Niserie (-8)
