Re: The Maiden's Bounty
“Up!” Dorian growls, voice firm, not unkind. “On your feet—we make our stand now.”
He pushes himself upright, one hand braced on his shield as the other hauls Athan up beside him. He doesn’t look to see if Bryne or Vari need help—he trusts they’ll rise. They must.

Not hesitating she aims her bow at the closest man swinging a grappling hook and readies a shot for when they are close enough. I'm assuming they are not in range of her short bow yet Rev, but if I'm mistaken, go ahead and roll for me.

Re: The Maiden's Bounty
“You can’t be afraid of the dark when you're the light keeping the shadows at bay.” ~ Tricia Levenseller, Vengeance of the Pirate Queen
Below deck, the lost soul huddled his legs to his chest and rocked to and fro. The pirates were here and where they sailed, death sailed beside.
Thena and Jacinthe both start to work on the ballista bolt that entered uninvited into their cabin. Using their weapons, they manage to twist the bolt sideways a few inches and the force of the Corsair trying to hold the chains taunt rips through the already weakened wood around the wound cause it to pull free and fall away back into the sea. Jacinthe claps, "Well done Sister Thena!"
The last remaining gnome tries to hurry across the chain of the ballista bolt but feels it start to move as Thena and Jacinthe twist it. He clings on for all its worth until Nis' deadly aim finds him. Both arrows hit the small target one pinning his arm through a bolt of that chain and the second planting firmly in his neck. He goes limp as the chain sinks below the churning waves. There is a shudder in pirate's ship as that ballista bolt and its heavy chain sink below hanging ship in place as if was an anchor. The thin woman on the Corsair barking orders now barks a new one, "UNDO THAT CHAIN AND TOSS IT OVERBOARD!" which echoes across the span between the two ships. Those looking in that direction see several of the pirates move to hammer away at the ballista those chains are attached to, intent on cutting it free.
Mistress LeCrux shouts prayers on the north side of the ship. And whether through her prayers or the mindless fury of the storm to the north, the other pirate ship is engulfed with the storm. A crack of lightning lines the ship in shimmering light as the mizzen mast explodes in a fiery blast showering splintered wood and flames across the deck of the pirate ship to the north.
The Corsair was armed with three ballista, with one out of commission as the pirate's try to demolish it to loose the weight dragging them from the heavy opened bolt, this left two still operating. Both fire again towards the Maiden and both miss. With cursed shouts the men on the Corsair draw the heavy chains back through the murky waters towards their ship to reload.
Meanwhile, Captain Lando shouts, "Another at their bow!" However, the missile goes high missing the pirate ship's sails by half a foot before splashing into the ships beyond it.
The three pirates trying to toss grappling hooks try to hit the maiden but only the first catches on the first mast. A great tattoed half-orc grasps the rope and swings across the span between the two ships, landing on the deck of the maiden. He pulls a great scimitar and with a wicked grin starts towards Dorian and Athan who both pull their weapons.
Vari takes aim at the painted archer and lets a volley fly at him, though only the second hits, staggering the man backward as he tries to reload. Meanwhile his first shots have managed to catch the center mast ablaze and several of the crewmen including Aeryn are making their way up to try and extinguish the flames.
The thin woman on the pirate ship shouts, "GIVE HER A KISS TRENCHER!" And then the the pirate ship starts to move closer to the Maiden a mere 30' of air betwixt them. Several of the pirates line up in position to leap aboard when they are close enough. Archers on the Maiden have a free shot at any aboard the pirate ship before that kiss is delivered.
Bramsey cowers beside Torvik whimpering, "We're going to sink when it hits." Meanwhile the painted archer recovers enough to get off one shot. He sends his arrow flying high and striking Aeryn in mid-climb. The young man loses his grip when he is hit and plummets to the ship's deck beside Bryne. As above her flames continue to burn.

“You won’t take this ship. You won’t harm these people. Not while I draw breath.”
His breath is steady. Controlled. His eyes are locked on the advancing half-orc, reading his movement, watching the rise of the scimitar. Dorian’s face is calm—not cold, not cruel—but centered, like the eye of a hurricane.
His sword lifts, edge gleaming. His shield comes forward, braced and ready. Each motion is practiced—ritual, almost—like a knight in sacred procession rather than a man rushing to war, he advances to meet the foe.
“By the will of the gods,” he says under his breath, eyes never leaving the enemy, “you will go no further.”

Enough of this... Nis glares at the pirate commanders and the enemy archer as she draws upon the raw power of nature. She weaves the raw essence of the raging winds and the crashing seas into her ensnaring charm.

Nis will cast Hold Person targeting the thin woman giving orders. She will try to get the painted archer and the other person giving orders in the area of effect as well. If there are any other pirates near enough to be in the area she will include them. AoE 20 ft cube, up to 4 people of caster's choosing.
If she can target only 1 they get a -2 to their spell save
If she can target 2 they each get a -1 to their save
3 or 4 no penalty

"The heart is an arrow, it demands aim to land true..." ~ Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows
"Tempus be praised!," Jacinthe says as she quickly slips back into her armor, "I feel naked without it anyway." The two make their way back up to the deck in time to see Nis begin her spell and the pirate ship about to hit the Maiden.
Mave's first shot strikes the painted archer who cries out in surprise. He moves his bow in her direction and fires though the arrow goes high and hits the deck behind her. Aeryn lays bleeding out on the deck, not far from that arrow.
Bryne takes aim at the robed man moving towards the prow of the ship, thinking him a caster or officer, rightly so. Both her arrows hit the man who whirls about and then starts to run for some cover.
As Bramsey retreats to help Vari, Torvik takes aim at one of the grappling hook tossing pirates and hits him causing him to miss his throw. Bramsey reaches Vari who is firing at another of the grappling hook tossers. Her first shot hits him in the side and he drops the hook. Her second shot goes awry but she shouts to Bramsey, "See if you can take out the last man with the hook." Bramsey calls upon his arcane teaching and casts his unerring arrow at the man, who jumps back as the magic strikes him doing little damage but spoiling his toss.
Niserie having had enough of the pirates calls upon Nicnevin's power against the Mayfly (at least she assumes that is her) and her compatriots. With satisfaction, she sees three of her four targets stiffen held in place by the witch-magicks. Sadly, the only one who seems unaffected, is the Mayfly herself. The archer, one of the grappling hook tossers and the wheelsman Trencher all freeze in place. Also sadly that kiss the wheelsman was ordered to give now becomes an embrace as the two ships crash together tossing everyone on both decks.
Dexterity check from all please.
Allies injured: Aeryn (unconscious and bleeding out), Dorian (-9)
"Tempus be praised!," Jacinthe says as she quickly slips back into her armor, "I feel naked without it anyway." The two make their way back up to the deck in time to see Nis begin her spell and the pirate ship about to hit the Maiden.
The half-orc smiles wickedly, "Then I guess you'll need to not breathe," as he strikes Dorian faster and harder than the young knight expected despite being prepared for the attack. The scimitar cuts through his defenses dealing the knight a vicious cut at the point his breastplate meets his greaves. "It seems your gods have forsaken you child," the half-orc says as he raises the bloodied scimitar to his lips and licks some of Dorian's blood from the edge. Athan seeing his opening, moves in and raising Zenith towards the darkened skies brings the sword down on the half-orc delivering a staggering blow, "Feel Lathander's wrath!"

Crewman! Someone aid Aeryn! Stop his bleeding! Nis shouts to one of the sailors on-deck, even as the ship lurches beneath her feet.
More prepared for the rolling of the deck than before, the Elven witch steadies herself. Bringing her bow to bear, Nis fires at the Mayfly.
