The warrior nods at those in the other group that he knows. While the others talk he looks around, standing guard.

It's been a phenomenal run - quite literally of Luck. It should work more than not but does seem to have developed a life of its own!

Wait, you mean it's going to get worse! Lawks!

Re: Hot Times in Slateholm 6/23-24
Ferd gives Robin a friendly elbow in the side. "Don't forget who talked the Guildmaster into waiving your fees," he chuckles. "A flattering woman is a wonderfulway to lose your money. Speaking of our money, let us handle that first, hmmm? As you said before... taxes and all that, for upstanding men like us."
A charming and gregarious middle-aged hobbit, he rests his crossbow on his shoulder and encourages Robin and our tiny lockbox into the Jeweler...
"Please excuse us, the Duke demands his share. But I also look forward to songs and tales after!"

Robin smiled at the friendly face of a fellow halfling. "It goes without saying that one of our people is obviously most excellent!" He laughed heartily. "Vesper would never lead me wrong. We are good friends now. Besides, sometimes spending money flattering a woman is worth the coin!" He looks at lockbox. "Let's take this inside where it is private and open it there. Mayhap it will contain more treasure to be spent on songs and better equipment."Marullus wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 6:17 pm Ferd gives Robin a friendly elbow in the side. Vesper laughs gently "Master Robin you should be aware that sometimes I even lead myself wrong! I also bid you only spend money on flattery when you can well afford it for, believe me, that is never the way to seek true affection".helvorn wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 10:11 pmRobin smiled at the friendly face of a fellow halfling. She suggests "My vigilant comrade Gaurbal is right - we should take our business within. Let us cash in our spoils with these reputable dealers".
Eyeing Ferd she says "You are wise, sir, and advise your comrade wisely and well but I think you will see that I am a woman who does not take but indeed, with her craft, makes money. You carry a lute - can you turn that to loot?"*
(OOC: * OK second pitch here! We surely can't split the band due artistic differences/drug choices before it's even been formed??? It's a space/time cum cart/horse continuum thing...

The 8 of you step inside the doors of Ye Old Curio Shop and are quickly greeted by an middle aged man with a bushy grey beard and a small pot belly.
"Welcome to you!" he says smiling and linking his fingers over his belly, "It looks like you might be here to sell, eh? My name is Alister Vast, my brother Saul and I own this shop and we are always looking for interesting items to buy, or trade."
"I see you are part of the Adventure's Guild, from your badges." he nods, "Here to sell items for coin so you can pay off the Duke's Tarriff, yes?"
OOC: So what are you going to sell to the Vast Brothers? Give me the list and the prices I listed for the items and we'll do the transactions quickly.

Vesper speaks up "Masters Vast we are adventurers all but for now in two groups. Those of us that wiped our boots carefully before entering are of one group and we have a contracted exemption to the Duke's Tarriff. We have some dragon scales, this fine pearl, a shield and a pair of blades for appraisal and... once my friend Master Robin has helped this lock open we may have some more...".Eris wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 8:42 pm "I see you are part of the Adventure's Guild, from your badges." he nods, "Here to sell items for coin so you can pay off the Duke's Tarriff, yes?"

(OOC: I think that's all. I'll check back and list our finds / outstanding business here below:
I suggest we're keeping the chainmail (Draven) shield (Gaurbal) and Vesper's keeping the useful leather sack!
Loot for Appraisal:
A Polished Pearl at 40gp from memory
Five Red Dragon scales (5 gp each)
Cracked, handheld mirror (8 gp)
A Pair of elf-forged shortswords (14 gp)
A set of Leather armour (to be disposed of by Draven)
To be actioned:
One Ord's Unblinking Eye (Discovery) - Priests at the Temple
One sack containing two rat swarms deceased (-2 survivors) - Sergeant of the Guards
Sitrep to Guild Master
Admin / NPCs:
Heal Durant's disease & mend his spear
Sister Rowen's Atonement).
EDIT: Found the valuation of the other loot in a spoiler so have edited those valuations and descriptions back in above.

Robin chimed in. "I can try to open the box now that we are in private." He pulled out his tools and then waved everyone back. "Let me check for traps first so stand back please." Robin carefully probed the box and the lock for traps.

"My ribald tunes are famed in every shitty tavern on the Old Coast," Ferd answers Vesper. "Won't be long until our exploits are as infamous here."
...
Inside the shop, Ferd tries to get Robin to keep his cards close to his chest, not revealing our own chest of gemstones until the other group is done and perhaps moves on...
loot here. We sold the bear meat and hide in Jesselton and we gathered the herbs for Mazie and cashed out with her. We are here to get an appraisal on nine gemstones which might be worth up to 4,500 total. These guys also have magic items so somethingthat can overcome the ward on the gnome entrance is immediately useful.

Vesper replies "I can only match that by claiming that the Shadow Cats are known in the Dock District and we'll be playing tonight if you want to join us!" She adds with a smile "Ribald's most definitely our theme!"

Inside the box is small leather pouch containing five small stones. One each of red, blue, green, and two a white milky color. Scattered around the pouch were a number of coins made of gold and silver, but none have faces or inscriptions you recognize. You could only hazard a guess as to what any of the gems or coins might be worth.
Along the inside length of the box is thin metal tube, too thick to be a wand or rod and light when you lift it...a scroll case capped at both ends with metal lids. The outside of the case is smooth, gleaming and black; empty of any writing or engraving.

I'm going to set 2 groups here for valuing treasure arbitrarily naming them the Trip Group and the Sewer Group. Whatever you sell to the Vast Brothers or Larkin the Jeweler they will give you a receipt and you'll present that to the Duke's Tax collector and he will take 10% of that price. Any items you keep, don't sell, you will show the Tax Collector and he will appraise the item's worth and charge you 10% of his appraisal. That's going to cost you more than selling to the Vasts or Larkin, so I'm assuming anything you don't plan to keep and use for yourselves you sell.
IIRC, this is where the groups stand.
Trip Group brought back:
If you decide to sell the scroll case (and whatever is inside we'll handle that separately).
The Sewer Group brought back:
What does each group sell and how are you distributing the coin?
IIRC, this is where the groups stand.
Trip Group brought back:
- Potion making materials (no tariffs on that) and Timu can go about making potions.
- 9 gems from the bag in the rubble (Larkin offers a whopping 1,280 gp for them!)
- An ornately carved box (Vast Bros will pay you 10gp for it)
- 5 gems from the box(Larkin will pay you 670 gp for them)
- 4 gold and 5 silver coins of unknown provenience (Vast will pay you 55 gp for the gold and 15 gp for the silver coins)
- 1 coin of unknown provenience that is neither gold nor silver but some unknown metal (Vast and Larkin consult on this one and offer 50 gp for it)
If you decide to sell the scroll case (and whatever is inside we'll handle that separately).
The Sewer Group brought back:
- The leather armor, shield and bag aren't worth mentioning, so you don't.
- A Polished Pearl (Larkin offers 40 gp)
- Five Red Dragon scales (Vast Bros offers 50 gp)
- Cracked, handheld mirror (Vast offers 10 gp)
- A Pair of elf-forged shortswords (Vast offers 200 gp for the pair)
What does each group sell and how are you distributing the coin?

Sorry about this, but it's been brought to my attention that I screwed the distribution of loot up. The chest Robin opened was from the Sewer Group? Right? So, I need to move the items that were in it to that group. I went back and dug through all the posts and this is what I found, so...
...after going through the posts, this is how it is...Final Decision!
Trip Group
- Potion making materials (no tariffs on that) and Timu can go about making potions.
- An ornately engraved metal box (Vast Bros will pay you 10gp for it)
From the metal box:[*]16 coins, 4 gold, 11 silver & 1 platinum Gnomish in nature (65 gp for the gold, 25 gp for silver, 50 for platinum)
[*] 3 diamonds, 2 rubies & 4 unpolished pebbles (450 gp for the diamonds, 300 gp for the rubiles, & 200 for the pebbles)
Sewer Group
- The leather armor, shield and bag aren't worth mentioning, so you don't.
- A Polished Pearl (Larkin offers 40 gp)
- Five Red Dragon scales (Vast Bros offers 50 gp)
- Cracked, handheld mirror (Vast offers 10 gp)
- A Pair of elf-forged shortswords (Vast offers 200 gp for the pair)
From the chest:[*]5 gems from the chest(Larkin will pay you 670 gp for them)
[*]4 gold and 5 silver coins of unknown provenience (Vast will pay you 55 gp for the gold and 15 gp for the silver coins)
[*]1 metal scroll case, not empty (Vast will pay you 300 gp for the case and its contents sight unseen or 10 gp for the case if you keep the contents)
Okay, NOW tell me what you sell to the merchants and what you keep to have the Tax Collector appraise!

Now, the Tax Collector could be a b@#$%@d and say you brought it into the city when you came back through the gate, but I'm not going to do that.terrymixon wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 8:15 pmAs the sewer group technically found their stuff in the city, you said earlier there was no tariff.Eris wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 8:06 pm

Oh, and Trip Group, remember you "found" some things while carousing. That's not going to count as loot, but don't forget you've got a Wand of Levitation for example!

Assuming equal distribution to include a full share for Robin, that is 247.5 each for Tinu, Morvith, Ferd & Robin.
Not wanting to pay more taxes than necessary, Ferd recommends selling all the gems and even shares.
Though, he asks the merchants, "What rarer items might you have for sale? Anything that might help with wards or enchantments?"

Re: Hot Times in Slateholm 6/23-24
Robin agrees with selling the gems. "Maybe we can carouse and celebrate our winnings together?" He asked the group.
Re: Hot Times in Slateholm 6/23-24
Vesper seems sold "That sounds like an excellent idea!"
She eyes "Trip group" and gives a wicked grin "There's just one question you have to ask yourself... Are you sure your clothes can keep up?"
She hands the scroll case to Galreth "See if you an use this. We're all getting armour but I'll bet this city has magic to buy. Remember, if you can't use it, I can... whatever it is. Also if there's any... dark magic it could still be useful to this company. I will decipher it with you if you wish. I have studied dark lore".
(OOC: Split the cost (450gp ante) on a weeklong MIA bender involving Ferry Tickets, no passports and carousing at 1d8 +4 and 1d6 Bard bonus???
Fear and Loathing in Slateholm, baby!
Who, what... or even why... could go wrong!
