Section 9: Remaining on Misty {Baby Blue and Headstone)

“And that’s exactly why I always try to take your advice seriously. Even if I still believe real respect comes from saying things straight to someone’s drekkin face, even if it ain’t what they want to hear. Only the weak need sugarcoating. That said, I’ve also learned I’m wrong more often than I like to admit, so maybe walking on eggshells was the right call this time. We’ll find out soon enough. Either way, I’m a lot more level-headed with some food in me. Best to hit pause on the heavy talk until later.” he responds to BB.

"Be as direct as you wish," says Baby Blue. Her lips quirk. "When the guy you're yelling at isn't my only way out of an underwater hyper-paranoid secret city without so much as a trash can to hide behind."

Headstone belly laughs hearing BB's description.
''It'll be fine, chummer. I won't say anything that will jeopardize the run or cause risk to your well-being'' he responds with a smile.

"Good. Now come on. Let's see if you've eaten something drekker than my Dad's cooking," says Baby Blue with a small smirk.

’’Patricia Steinrich’’ he stares forward, visualizing the woman from Berlin right in front of him. ’’I must have been ten, eleven, maybe. Before the gang fully accepted me, they send me to this retched, drekkin dandelion eater.

She was like an Ace, working little street rats like us. If we did well, she would recommend us for initiation. Not knowing there were more options out there and they definitely made sure we kept oblivious to that fact. We did everything she asked of us.
She wasn’t all bad, though, always kept us fed and gave a roof over our heads. Even if she did it to make sure that we always believed we needed her.
One of the greediest dreks alive though. She had this stick up her hoop about wasting food.
‘A bit of mold strengthens the stomach’ was her mantra or some drek. Spend more time being sick than feeling healthy. Making us even more reliant on her care.
For all her flaws, she did care about us, though. In her own twisted ways, I guess.
I think the worst day was when I saw how she cooked roadkill. She used absolutely everything of the animal that looked even remotely edible. Puked right on the floor, seeing how she grind up the disease-ridden critter. I paid dearly for disrespecting her cooking process by puking. Those frail arms still packed a punch with the wooden ladle’’ he chuckles, thinking back on his upbringing after leaving his parent's home at the age of nine.

{Baby Blue}

"Yeah? Well I've eaten drekker than that," says Baby Blue. "I'd had a rough couple of days. This one kid kept stalking me. Blackteeth, on account of the color of his teeth. He'd let me go dumpster diving, to find food, and then show up and take it from me soon as I got out. I tried just eating it there in the dumpster, but he'd grab me by the back of my shirt and drag me out. Got desperate enough to fight back one time, he beat the drek out of me. I'm lying there, bleeding all over the pavement, with his foot on my chest. He's digging into the chicken pieces I scrounged up, real rubbing it in my face and laughing."

Baby Blue smiles grimly. "Until he started choking and coughing. Then he stopped making any sounds at all. I just sat there watching, a big old grin on my bloodied face as he scrambled about the alleyway, clutching at this throat. Finally, he falls over and passes out. I wait about ten minutes or so, until I'm sure he's dead. That felt good."

Baby Blue looks a little queasy. "But see, I had a bit of a conundrum. I'd gone a while without eating, and I was feeling real weak. And that chicken had looked and smelled so good. So, before rigor mortis set in, I pried open his mouth, and reached into his throat. Little hands. They're helpful. Pulled out the partially eaten chicken he choked to death on and chowed down."

"I've uhh, never been able to eat chicken since."

"Wow, I still had one ready in the chamber. Eating out of the mouth of a dead man? Yeah, mine do not even come close to that. You got this one. That is true survival instinct, impressive BB" he nods in a genuine display of respect.

About 30 minutes after Basil returns, Ace and Revs walk into the plane. Ace holds a huge bag.

“Special Delivery,” Ace says. “I wasn’t sure what you like, Headstone, so I got you one of each of the large metahuman combos. That should give you a broad selection. It’s only about a third of what I had, but it should tide you over at least.”

''You really did not need to go out of your way for this ol' Orc. No refined taste to be found here, but I appreciate it. Smells very good.'' he responds to Ace looking at the closed bags.
''How's the crew doing? They enjoying themselves?'' looks at Revs with a questioning look.

{Revs}

Revs shrugs "They seemed to enjoy a decent meal, now they're settling down in our rooms for the night. I'm on first watch. Skye went for a walk when Basil and I arrived at the restaurant. I'm not sure where she is now, but there isn't much in the way of options for hotels so I'm sure she'll find us."

"Glad to hear it" he nods at Revs.

“You’re welcome,” Ace says. “Though, by not coming along you missed to sheer shock on Server’s face when I ordered my meal… and the greater one when I finished it. I bet Chef had a heart-attack once both El Cid and Tears ordered the same. We may have gone through their monthly stores.” He chuckles.

{Headstone}

While Headstone and Revs talk, Ace walks up to the cockpit and gives Belfry the room information. “In case you change your mind and decide you want a bed, Basil.”

“Thanks, Bryant,” Belfry says. “I won’t. But it’s good to know where you are… just in case.”

Ace nods. “Your loss,” he says. “Watch your back, then.” With that, he returns to the cabin.

“Ta, Bryant.”

Headstone starts digging into the food while trying hard to remove the very visual thoughts he has, still fresh in his mind from BB's last story.

{Baby Blue}

Baby Blue watches Headstone eat, the corners of her lips curled up in a hint of a smirk. "Got no one to blame but yourself, chummer. You picked food."

Not having the context for Baby Blue’s comment, Ace says, “There’s still time to change your mind, Baby Blue. I can still bring you some real food. It doesn’t even have to be Mexican. They have an excellent Elven place. Best I’ve ever had outside of Tir. And they have several other cuisines. For places that serve real food, other than the two places already mentioned, they have an adequate steakhouse, halfway decent Thai restaurant, and a good barbeque place. I don’t know about any of the soy places. I don’t go to any of them.”

Baby Blue shakes her head. "I'm fine."

“Suit yourself,” Ace says. “Your loss.”

He turns to Revs. “You ready to head back? The shower is calling my name almost as loudly as the bed.”

Revs nods "I'm ready, let's go."

Once he is done eating and cleaned up after himself, he'll head to the cockpit to have a chat with Basil.
