"What's our plan if he manages to get in his car?" asks Baby Blue. "Call it off and find another opportunity? Take a separate route to his home address and jump him there? He's gotta 'do something' which complicates things, we don't know what that thing is or how long it takes, but tailing him could tip him off."

''No need to go back to our original plan just yet. Let's give this plan an honest shot. If it that happens, I'll just shoot his tires and windows, while Tears start chucking concussion grenades inside the vehicle. Main focus should be keeping him from sobering up. If that happens, we will need to knock him out any way we can. Sound good, chummers?''

"We used to chuck those at each other when we were kids. Just a bit of ringing in your ears and a slight headache at worse, after waking up that is" Headstone chuckles.

Over the phone, the team can just barely make out Ace muttering, “Ya really are wasted, Bryant… He’s probably cussin’ at the fraggin’ lock.”

After about 30 more seconds, they hear an electronic beeping and whirring. An electronic voice issues a warning challenge: “This vehicle is protected with lethal force. Provide voice print and biometrics or step away from the vehicle.” It repeats to the word ‘provide’ while Ace says, “Clarissa 13 Blackfoot Ellette.” Another 30 seconds or so, and they hear Ace say, “There we go… That’s better… Frag, I shoulda brought more water.”
{GM}

At the time this part of the conversation comes over the phone, Revs has gone the two blocks south, bypassing the foreboding dark, narrow alley. The light at the corner was conveniently green, so he turned right onto the east-west street that parallels the one on which Murphy’s law sits, the first full street that runs that way. He has continued on about three blocks and is approaching the light at the corner to turn onto the street that runs perpendicular to the one where Murphy’s has its front door. The traffic is fairly light being so early in the morning, but the minibus is not alone on the street.

As Revs approaches the corner, the light turns red. Two cars stop before the minibus, keeping Revs from proceeding even if he did want to ignore the ‘No Right on Red’ traffic sign.

The light remains annoyingly red at this time. The 15 seconds or so the team has been stuck here feels like days. Don’t they change the timing of the lights for evening traffic?

Over the phone, the team hears a few beeps and clicks. “This vehicle is secure,” in an automated voice.

After a few seconds, they hear Ace say,“What are you using for a pick, Cid? This one’s easy, a paper clip, safety pin, or a bobby pin should do it, but if you’d rather, I have a bristle from a street sweeper. Those things are made of spring steel, best free picks on the market. Just walk behind the street cleaner when it rolls by, and you can usually find four or five.”

Baby Blue files that little tidbit away for future reference, while mentally cussing herself out for never thinking of it before.

[El Cid]

"I'm using this bit of scrap metal I found lying in the street. Usually seemed to work just fine, ya drek-head." El Cid grumbles out. Suddenly there's a click. "Hey, lookee that! I got it." He starts pulling off the lock. "Easy fer you, yer sober. I ain't got one o' dem patches." While El Cid can't hear the team, serendipity seems to have favored Headstone's wishes.

A slow squeal of the gate being opened is heard over the phone. "So 'bout that ride home. You sure yer jalopy can handle all o' dis homegrown muscle?"

"I don't suppose you know what El Cid's address is, Headstone?" asks Baby Blue. "Maybe better to hit them there if they get in the car, instead of trying to shoot out tires and making a scene, or hitting bystanders with stray bullets."

It's still the plan of El Cid and you, if I am not mistaken? So go for it. I only wanted to help your plan succeed, is all. You have my complete and utter support.
If that saves Pacman, Tears in the Rain, Boner Biter and me getting instantly wiped by a single spell, all the better.
Headstone responds, giving a big thumbs up.

’’Here is the information I know about where he usually resides’’ Headstone responds giving BB the info he knows about El Cid.

’’Also, I don’t know if it’s the tension or the unknown of what is or isn’t about to go down, but it feels like you are only partially taking in what I am saying. It's probably me saying it in a way that isn't clear enough, so let me rephrase it all.
When I talk about dealing with a wizard, I don’t mean running after the poor sap if he isn’t even involved. It was on what to do in a worse case scenario.

When I talk about shooting out tires, remember that I first mentioned we will switch to shock gloves if he turns out to be sober. So the goal was never to shoot in the first place and definitely not to shoot up the place and making a scene. Let alone the fact that I use a silencer and not a bad shot, if I may say so myself. So no randomly flying bullets, I used to do this for a living remember?
If I had a habit of missing, I would have been dead by now.

So the intention is constantly to do this fast, silent and without creating a fuzz.
Remember that we only have 4, of which only 3 directly go for the target. You suggesting to help is already making a huge difference. If we had the entire crew jumping him, we wouldn’t even need to use shock gloves. We all would have been a lot safer. I am just working with what is given.

So again, just relax. I am here to assist with your plan. You presented me with a solid plan and I am all for it. If you feel we should divert, let’s divert. If you feel we should go forward, we go forward. No need to think I am about to start a world war here''
ending with a smile. ’’We good, chummer?’’

“Chip truth, Cid,” Ace says, laughing. “But don’t blame me. I’ve got more in the van. You were there when I told Chance, neh? I just figured you were good, chummer. You didn’t ask for one. You want a Sober-ese? I’ll run and get it.”
[El Cid]

"Sure. I'd hate to get caught in combat in this state." El Cid laughs.
{GM}

“Echo that,” Ace says. “That’s why I usually don’t let myself get this wasted and why I always keep the patches in my car.”

{El Cid}

A slow squeal of the gate being opened is heard over the phone. "So 'bout that ride home. You sure yer jalopy can handle all o' dis homegrown muscle?"
“You’re fine, Cid,” Ace says. “I had all the seating reinforced when I bought her – great for carrying larger metatypes… and heavy munitions from time to time.”

Once again, the team hears the security system gives its challenge, “This vehicle is protected with lethal force. Provide voice print and biometrics or step away from the vehicle.” It repeats to the word ‘provide’ while Ace says, “Tiffany 21 Karl Guardian.”

The light turns green, and Revs waits for the two cars ahead of him to pull out.

Realizing that what Headstone is saying may be important to the job, Revs checks his rearview mirror. Since no one is behind him, he hesitates before turning the corner.

The light turns yellow, so Revs makes the turn to avoid having to sit through another whole cycle. Since Headstone is still talking. Revs takes the turn somewhat slowly and continues to drive slowly until they reach the alley. From there, even those with normal vision can see Cid and Ace

As the minibus reaches the alley, Revs realizes that running slow might be more obvious than normal speed. Then again, he might slow to pull over.

Over the phone, while Revs makes his decision, the team hears Ace say, "Alright. Just let me bring her around."

Baby Blue's face pales, and she shrinks into her seat, trying to look as small as possible. She speaks in a quiet voice, even as her eyes remain fixed on the gate and she hefts the stun rod. "Yes sir."
