ELROOD SECTOR: Episode Four: Demise of a Destroyer on Derralyn

Basement of an abandoned Industrial Factory in the city of Takar on the Imperial Interdicted Planet Derralyn, Elrood Sector


It had been a crazy three months for the team of New Republic Intel Agents.....

First, they had made it back to RMC Headquarters back on Elrooden, capital of Elrood and made the Mining Treaty official between RMC, the New Republic and the Anguilla. Then, Zuul had made contact with some of his old Pirate compatriots of the Khuiumen Survivors and he learned that following the attack by Star Blazer the 'Star Dragon', the damaged Star Destroyer Brazen, captained by the hated Imperial Naval Officer Alistar Dadefra, was at the orbital shipyards of the Imperial Interdicted Planet of Derralyn.

Derralyn had been Interdicted for almost a decade now since there had been a 'Rebel Sympathizer' March shortly after the Battle of Yavin and the Empire cracked down hard and Interdicted the Planet from all non Imperial Trade and commerce. This was partly to protect their Shipyard and Base on the planet, but was mostly a 'way out of proportion crackdown' that was typical of the Empire. Ever since, the was a powerful underground Resistance Movement on the planet and a few daring smugglers who would ship goods and/or people to and from the planet.....at great risk.....

Jacob Nive; the leader of the Khuiumen Survivors Pirate Fleet desperately wanted to attack and destroy the Brazen and its Captain; but the Orbital Shipyard had too much fire-power for the Pirate Ships. However, if a group could somehow get on-world and find a way to the Station thru the regular Imperial Connecting Shuttle Flights and sabotage the Station some-how......then they could make the attack and strike a blow for Justice....or....Vengeance at least.....

While Nive had any number of his Pirate Band who would volunteer, he needed most of them on the ships and his people weren't exactly good at Infiltrating....they were Pirates.....rather Obvious and Overt even when they weren't trying.....

Zuul quickly volunteered his group and the others, while reluctant.....agreed to back up their teammate. However, one of the group....Vale Starcloud the Jedi, would NOT be joining them. The Force had reached out to him and he was 'called' elsewhere. He gave his friends a touching good-bye and told Kit'katarra she needed no more training and told Kato that he did INDEED have 'the Gift'....but that he needed much more time spent 'in Study' to fully utilize it.

The Nova Kestrel was left in Elrooden, under excellent guard and car of RMC and a Pirate pilot named Jada, who was from Derralyn and had made the clandestine run to and off the world many times since the Interdiction, flew them to the world and deposited them in the middle of a dark night, in a dank and mostly deserted part of what was once clearly a great city, but was now mostly falling apart.....a place called Takar.....

They were to meet a Resistance Group known as 'Friends of Parrin' who operated out of an abanonded Industrial Building that was fairly close to the main Imperial Base that supplied the Orbital Shipyard. The NRI Agents found the world hot and dry and the dark, abandoned and starting-to-fall-apart City very eerie.....

A quiet young woman with freckles and reddish hair who looked to MAYBE be 20 named Kella seemed to just appear out of thin air from the shadows and she quickly made contact, determined who they were and led them to the abandoned Industrial Building that served as her group's home and base....

From the outside and even inside, on the ground level, it looked exactly like a dusty, rusted out wreck of a building that hadn't seen any care for almost a decade....but once through a well hidden door that led to a hidden ladder under some cleverly placed 'fallen down metal sheets', they went to a Basement that was a quite sophisticated control room with multiple computer stations, comms feeds, sensor relays and some living quarters arranged just off of it. The NRI Agents were immediately reminded of Rebel Alliance Bases they had utilized not so long ago themselves....

There were five other figures in the room; 4 humans and 1 R2 Droid. A dark skinned woman who looked to be in her mid 30s introduced herself and said, "Hello...I'm Chondra, leader of the 'Friends of Parrin'....welcome to Derralyn. You've already met Kella, she's our best 'snooper'; this here is Roog-", and she nods to a tall, gangly young man in his late teens or early 20s and a nearly shaved head in grease stained overalls and a tool belt with lots of Tools in them who eyed them warily and had a hand on the top of the Red-and-Green colored R2 unit's head and patted it affectionately; "-who is our Tech; R2-N2 our miracle-working Droid", the Droid gave a happy little whistle and 'whoomp' sound. Next she waves her arm to a short, slight young man who looks to be about 25 or so with wild hair, bright green eyes and a confident grin that doesn't diminish after he sneezes a couple of times. "This is 'Sneeze' Makzin; our Repulsorlift Tech and Driver and all around Trouble Maker......he's called Sneeze because he-" "-Because I can SMELL the Impies before anyone else even knows they're there!", he interrupts with a smile and about an ocean's worth of confidence, "-and because he's allergic to almost everything", Chondra finishes drily. Makzin doesn't miss a beat and just adds, "-That too".

Finally, she nods to a strapping young man who looked to be in his late 20s and whose hard eyes, easy grip on his Heavy Blaster Pistol and overall 'feel' let the experienced NRI Agents know he was dangerous without anything needing to be said or proven. "This is Dineas Dink....he's our premier Infiltrator and Troubleshooter. He's been on the base a hundered times and even up to the Orbital Shipyards and back a half dozen times...he'll be your guide to getting that done. We'll go over more on our plan tomorrow, but for now.....get some rest, have something to eat if you like", she says as she waves you over to a surprisingly large and well-supplied kitchen area and shows you several comfortable cots.

Kit thanks them, grabs a bite to eat and crashes for the night.

"Thank you for your hospitality Chondra, you have done much here, we hope that this will make it worth it."

Kael gives a diplomatic but more appreciative smile.

"I'm Kael, you need any info or anything, let me know. I'll be drinking your chai that I smell. Again thank you."

Kael smiles and heads for the table and relaxes a bit and finds his bunk.

Clark is at first a bit concerned about the relative youthfulness of most of this group, but he then realises that since they've been living as rebels this long under the imperial thumb they must be competent, and so he manages to relax.

"We truly appreciate your help and assistance in this," he says, shaking everyone's hands.

Happy to be in a proper climate for once, Zuul has a bounce to his step. Well, the weather and the chance to blow stuff up.

He nods and smiles all friendly-like to the group. "Chondra, Kella, Roog, R2N2, Sneeze, and Dineass. Good to meet you. You said something about food?" Zuul looks about and spots what he's looking for.

The band of NRI Agents had a pleasant chat, meal and got a good night's sleep in some mostly-comfortable cots in the 'Friends of Parrin' Resistance Group base hidden in the basement of an old, abandoned Industrial Factory on an Imperial Interdicted Planet named Derralyn.....

The next morning, after getting cleaned up and having a light breakfast, Chondra reappeared, along with the rest of her crew, save Dineas and she told them of the plan....

"So, for the plan to work; we're going to need to need to know a little bit about each of your capabilities", she begins and a conversation about what each member of the NRI team is good at ensues.....

After awhile, she nods and says, "Okay then.....here's what we have in mind. We have three powerful detonite charges that we know IF placed at the proper junctions in the station keeping thrusters of the Orbital Defense Platform, they'll not only cause the Platform's power distribution system to fail, rendering its shields and weapons useless....they'll also send it on a decaying orbit into the atmosphere of Derralyn and leading to its destruction while the Pirates come in to finish off the Star Destroyer. Obviously, 'the catch' is how to get there in the first place and knowing exactly where to place the charges....."

"Dineas has connections on the inside of an Imperial Relay Tower Center a few blocks from here and he's managed to scrounge up some Imperial Technician Uniforms and IDs that he's placed on a rooftop of one of the Antennae array control buildings. Kella can guide you to just outside the perimeter fence using some underground sewer pipes to there and we have these-", she nods to a rack of three grapnel launchers, "-which you can use to get over the fence where Dineas will be waiting with a set of 3 Uniforms and IDs for you three." She nods here at Clark, Kato and Kael. "As I'm sure you know the Empire if pretty biased against non-humans, so I think you two-", here gestures towards Zuul and Kit, "-wouldn't have much chance of passing unnoticed as just another couple of Imperial Techs. In addition to gathering the Uniforms and IDs, Dineas will also have some tools with him to insert a bypass so that the Comms Relay antenna to the Orbital Defense Station will be usable by me, here at the Base. I'll be sending authorized Communications to the Defense Station for the next part of the plan."

Now, Chondra gestures towards 'Sneeze', Roog and R2-N2 and then back to Zull and Kit'katarra next and says, "So, you'll be heading out with these guys at the same time with the second phase of the mission." "Yeah, the AWESOME phase!", Makzin says with a huge grin, followed by a sneeze and Roog just rolling his eyes silently as the R2 Droid shakes its head and lets out a somehow disgusted sounding 'Zzzz-blam' sound.

"In short, you'll be commandeering a shuttle for the mission. In point of fact, you'll be taking TWO shuttles. Roog here has managed to create a device that when attached to the shuttle's Piloting controls, will allow R2-N2 to remote pilot the craft and after infiltrating the landing yard, the plan will be to slip into a pair of shuttles, one of which will have the remote control implanted on it, while the other has our 'Inside Man' in it, waiting for you with a pre-approved Flight Plan to the Station and a scanner-proof compartment for the two of you-", again she nods to Zuul and Kit, "-to hide in when the flight happens. Our insider is a native of Derralyn who joined the Empire a decade ago, before he knew what they were really like, named Melvor Khyme. Melvor lost his little sister in the Imperial Overreaction to the Protest and has been helping out the Resistance from the Inside ever since. He's bitter, but one helluva a Computer Technician and he has a burning hatred for the Empire. He'll have the shuttle ready with the flight plan and codes, etc.; but he's not a pilot, so it's a good thing that you are Miss Kit'katarra. We'll need to have Sneeze rapidly transport Clark, Kato and Kael after getting the Uniforms and IDs and linking in with the Comms anteannae in a speeder-" "Can't WAIT! I'll get you there so fast, it'll make your heads spin!", Makzin interrupted, "-right. Anyway, he'll get you reunited and then you can fly up in the Shuttle as I send the proper Comms codes and feeds to you and the Station, telling them you're on your way to do some maintenance on the Station-Keeping Thrusters. Meanwhile, Roog and R2N2 will use the remote Shuttle to draw attention away by having it do all manner of dangerous and erratic maneuvers and that should help cover all of your actions."

Chondra finished and looked at everyone quickly, "Questions? Thoughts?"

Kato forrows his brow and looks confused—which is basically his normal expression—and wonders how he can possibly be of use in this mission.

"Sounds like you got it all figured out, you come highly recommended so we will follow your lead, if we could get some pics so we know where we are going or something so we don't look look like wide eyed recruits.

Clark listens silently and intently until the entire plan is explained. It sounds a bit intricate, but due to the important prepwork already completed by these rebels it should hopefully all go (relatively!) smoothly. He indicates his readiness to proceed.

"How am I supposed to pilot the shuttle from inside a scan proof chamber?"

He growls a bit when he is relegated to shuttle duty and not placing explosives. "Stupid Imperialss and their human-focuss"

"They are just jealouss of how good we would look in the uniform, Kit." He jests as he agrees to the plan, knowing full well that things will most likely blow up and require him to get more intimately involved.

The band of NRI Agents and the cell of homegrown 'Rebels' on the Imperial Interdicted Planet of Derralyn broke into teams and began their mission to help strike a blow against the Imperial forces occupying the planet; specifically by helping to disable and hopefully destroy an Imperial Star Destroyer in dock in orbit above them....

The three human members of the NRI Team followed the slight, quick and near silent young woman of the Resistance Cell named Kella thru a long series of sewer pipes, all holding their nose and doing their best not to look too hard at what they were walking thru for most of the trip. They were ALMOST happy to emerge onto the streets into a rain shower that helped a bit in washing some of the stench off of themselves....

Kella moved silently to a corner, looked around carefully and then waved them forward and pointed up.....they could each see across the street was the 5 meter tall wall with an electrified wire top that surrounded the relay station, but just above it was the roof of one of those antennae relay towers and a hunched over figure on the roof waved quickly to them and motioned for them to use the Grapnel Throwers to begin the ascent to the roof to get the Uniforms and IDs and for the process of putting in the 'tap feed' to the dish to begin*......

Zuul and Kit gave each other a look that signified the camaraderie of the suffering as they huddled against the rain pouring on them as the speeder they were in dashed through the narrow streets of Takar, narrowly missing corners and other speeders by mere centimeters as if driven by a mad man....which it may just be. 'Sneeze' Makzin never stopped talking and/or sneezing the entire trip from his position at the front of the open roof Speeder while behind him the two tall aliens suffered in silence and Roog and R2-N2 huddled over a modified pocket computer and a comms unit they occasionally utilized to chat with the 'Inside Man', Melvor Khyme. Finally, Roog yelled out loud enough to cut thru Makzin's non-stop chatter, "SHUT UP SNEEZE....MELVOR SAYS GATE 3 BETA!" "Got It!", Makzin replied cheerfully and threw the speeder into a hard turn that nearly caused everyone to lose their meals and/or crash into each other....

A dizzying few minutes later, they darted into a gate through a thick wall that covered a landing field and everyone could see numerous landed shuttles, freighters and even a few TIE Fighters that were being worked on by ubiquitous gray-clad Imperial techs. A few Stormtroopers could be seen on the perimeter walking patrols or on the walls, keeping guard, but Makzin quickly took them towards a pair of 'Kappa' class Shuttles, left out a ways away from the other Imperial craft and soon, a gray haired Man came down the open on-ramp of one of the shuttles and quickly gestured to Zuul and Kit, "QUICK, GET INSIDE THE SHUTTLE BEFORE ANYONE SEES YOUR FUR OR SCALES! YOU TWO!", he calls out to Roog and R2N2, "GET THAT LINK UP EQUIPMENT ON THE OTHER SHUTTLE AS FAST AS YOU CAN!" "On it!"

"What should I do?" Makzin asks in an eager voice; "Just shut up, slump down and wait", Melvor says as he follows Zuul and Kit back onboard quickly and he throws a few switches here and there. "Okay, the anti-scanning field is on, none of the Impies should be able to pick up the fact that we've got a Wookie and a....", he looks at Zuul with a bit of a confused expression...."-umm......whatever you are; onboard. Detonite is right over there in that storage locker", he points to what is normally used to hold vacuum suits on the Shuttle, "-and best of luck in blowing those Impies to hell". He sees the looks at his own Uniform and says, "Yeah, yeah, I know....but I can do more harm to 'em from the inside. Good Hunting!" he says and he quickly heads down the ramp again, into the rain.

A moment later, the comms from the cockpit cackle on and it's Roog's voice; "Okay you two, we've got the other shuttle rigged and we're getting back in the speeder with that maniac to go pick up your friends. Just....try to stay casual alright? Best of luck" R2N2 sends what sounds like a happy series of Beeps and Whistles and with that, Zuul and Kit are left on their own onboard the Shuttle.....

*Grapnel Throwers use a DEX Skill of 'Launcher Weapons' and it's an Easy (Difficulty 10) shot to get the grapnels above the electrified wires of the wall and on the building behind it. If anyone wants to use a Force Point, let me know.

The two bands of NRI Agents mixed with members of a cell of homegrown 'Rebels' on the Imperial Interdicted Planet of Derralyn continued on their mission that would hopefully end with aiding a Pirate Band destroy an Imperial Star Destroyer in Orbit....


-Group consisting of Clark, Kato and Kael

The three human members of the NRI Team all took aim with their grapnel launchers and fired at the rooftop ledge of the Imperial building across the way and Kato and Kael were both happy to have their grapnels take hold and a moment later they were being 'reeled' in across the void and found themselves dangling some 10 meters off the pavement and pulling themselves onto the roof as rain fell on them. Professor Clark cursed quietly as his grapnel did NOT take hold and he had to 'reel' it back to his launcher to try again....

The two Rebels pulled themselves up onto the ledge and then froze as an Imperial Guard emerged through an open emergency door to the roof and walked over with a Blaster Pistol pointed at their faces and a nasty grin on his face. The two men were about to attempt something desperate and most likely foolish when a hidden figure exploded out from behind the Guard in the shadows and put a hand over his mouth at the same time that he drove an activated Vibroblade deep into the Imperial's back and a horrible-though-muffled scream could be heard from the man's covered mouth. The end was gruesome and fast and then both Kael and Kato jumped when the sound of Clark's grapnel successfully taking hold in the ledge behind them hit their ears....

A moment later the three men were face to face with the stone-cold and eerily haughty and calm face of Dineas D'ink, who looked over at them while wiping his now deactivated blade on the Imperial Guard's body. "Over there are the Uniforms and IDs, I'll get the tap feed installed....move fast...." and he proceeds to a junction box to do so as the three NRI Agents see a small case where the Resistance Cell member had motioned to over by the door to the inside of the building. Moving quickly over to it, they could indeed tell that the case held three Imperial Uniforms and ID cylinders for them.....

*Kato gets a SENSE of the darkness inside Dineas....

Meanwhile, inside the Shuttle, Kit moves about and finds that the case of Detonite was right where it was supposed to be, a low-level jamming field had been installed which should mask her and Zuul from any prying sensors and a typical emergency closet holding 4 Vac Suits and some glow rods were stored on the Shuttle....though she doubted if either she or Zuul could fit THESE particular suits as the Imperials never really cared about ensuring they had equipment that might fit non humans.....
