Garvin brightens "Well, if you're stayin' over... that's 'andsome!"

He comms Roscoe "Get your clobber on kid - we're assistin' a lady. Bring yer razor wit an' fisticuffs skills - just in case the Captain of Knowledge gets any o' the jokes".

Garvin will gear up in a vacc suit (and load the skill in place of explosives) so as to be useful.

To his comrades he says "This should be no bother but keep monitorin' just in case there's a highly educated tantrum".

When ready he prepares to follow in madam Treegarden's "wake".

It happens. No worries.

They are on a freighter bound for Weiss, so odds are, that's where they are headed. ;)

Beyond that, they work in Glisten, so they will likely return. None of the files you have indicated there was anything on Aki itself, so you're in the dark if it said to go elsewhere.

Considering that you're going over to the destroyer aboard a shuttle, there's really no need for a vacc suit. I'm going to say that with that knowledge you're just going to go in your regular clothes like Madam Treegarden. If you'd rather be the odd man out, just let me know and I'll adjust the events.

The interior of the high port, as you remember, is very workmanlike for the most part. Not a whole lot of fancy things other than the few concealed jams like the restaurant you visited. The trip to the bay where Madam Treegarden's shuttle weights only takes a couple of minutes. There are a couple of crewmen standing outside the bay door and they allow the two of you to pass without comment, maintaining their positions as you board the shuttle.

The trip over to the destroyer is quick and easy. When you arrive, the two of you are met by a naval commander. The woman nods to Madam Treegarden. "Welcome back aboard, ma'am. What next?"

"I'm going to be moving the cargo I brought aboard over to the Lost & Found, Commander Santos. So as not to take you away from the important task of guarding the discovery, I'll release your ship to get back and join the other destroyer and wait for the vessel I'm going to send to pick up the find. I need to get everything that I brought with me loaded aboard the shuttle and some people to make sure that we get it to where it needs to go without interference. I prefer to keep this low-key but this cargo is extremely valuable, so it's security is the highest priority. Try to balance that out for me, please."

The woman nodded. "I think we can find an appropriate balance, ma'am. I took the liberty of having all of the cargo you brought aboard prepared for transport under the assumption that you would be moving it. It shouldn't take more than five minutes to put everything aboard the shuttle and have you on your way."

"Excellent. Thank you. Please pass along my gratitude to your people and your captain."

The loading of the shuttle is quick and efficient. You spot a rather large crate that is about the size of the teleportal. There's also a sampling of smaller crates that likely hold examples of the other cargo that Roscoe seeded aboard the Ancients ship. As the woman said, it took less than five minutes have everything aboard the shuttle.

In the meantime, four Marines in their standard duty dress arrived. Your keen eye picks out the fact that they have armor underneath your uniforms and their sidearms look quite businesslike. Backing them up were four more in combat armor with a full load out.

Madam Treegarden raised her eyebrow. "That doesn't look very low-key to me."

"They're not going to be traveling with you, ma'am. At least not directly next to you. They'll be fifteen or twenty seconds behind you but ready to respond in an instant if there's trouble. Most people that see you going through the corridors are going to attach the two groups to one another because of the separation."

"If you say so. Let's get this show on the road. We've both got places to be."

Once everyone loaded back aboard the shuttle the trip back to the high port went quickly and as soon as you arrived, the crewmen guarding the bay secured a small, powered loader to carry the cargo and loaded everything aboard. The three of you and your four escorts head directly toward your ship. The four Marines with the heavy weapons follow along discreetly.

Just one it looks like you arrive without any incidents, a familiar figure steps out of the side corridor just in front of where the Lost & Found is parked. He smiles in a very self-satisfied way as he approaches. When the Marines make to intercept him, Madam Tree Garden waved a hand to stop them. "It's okay. I know him. What can I do for you, Mister Nirkha?"

His smile widened. "Once again, you seem to have forgotten my title. I suppose that's okay. You're entitled to call me whatever you like. I only stopped by to congratulate you."

She frowned. "About what?"

"Why, the fabulous find that you secured here in the Aki system. A little bird told me that Mister Slade passed along information to you that led to a major find. Rumor has it that it's a complete base in semi-operational operational condition. That is something amazing. I've said for years that there was something in the system and it's gratifying to have someone prove me right."

Her frown became a full-blown scowl. "That is absolutely untrue. There was no major discovery in the system."

"Really? I don't suppose you'd let me look inside these boxes that you're carrying. I'm willing to bet you anything that they contain Ancients artifacts proving that you did indeed find something extremely major in this system. My contact didn't have all the details, but they certainly knew more than enough to fill in some of the blanks. This is going to change the study of the Ancients going forward. I can feel it. It's wonderful to be on the cusp of something new and to play some small part in the progress."

"Please, don't go starting false rumors about something you know nothing about."

He grinned. "Too late, and they aren't rumors if they're true. I only reported the facts to everyone aboard the liner. We're all very excited. I'm confident that word is spreading like wildfire. You will be famous. Oh, and I suppose you will too, Slade."

She looks like she's ready to throttle him. Or order the Marines to shoot him.

No need for the vacc suit at all then. I'd overlooked the shuttle transfer.

Garvin will be in his "working gear" trench coat diplo vest and "blacks".

So noted. Roscoe is in somewhat stuffy civilian clothes.

Garvin's accent coarsens "Oi, oi, Captain of... Umbrage... er... what was it again? Never mind... but, no, don't go lookin' in the boxes old son. Lummie - "Interferin' with an Imperial Communication" that's a high crime that is! You'd get weighed off for that an' no mistake".

I mean I'm just 'ere for the money an' I'm out - I'm not doin' the speakin' tour!"

Garvin reaches out with his mind to see if he can snare the (now hopefully) focussed thought of the "contact" from Nirkha's surface thoughts.

He then sends his thoughts to Aster " 'Ullo Love, I think I can con 'im into claimin' the bogus "find" that we set up - I reckon 'e just won't be able to 'elp 'imself. Drags all the focus away from the patron and the real deal - which you still 'ave under guard and after the bogus find fails scrutiny Nirkha's academic toast. The contact comes to his mind almost instantly. One of the communications officers on the destroyer. You have a name and face. He bribed the man for information when he arrived at the high port yesterday. Met him in a bar. It was a good chunk of money with a big payout (that was made) for fresh info.

She responds via thought. "He'll just claim we covered it up. Like we're going to do. The people already inclined to believe will. Those who aren't wont. This is just perfect. I wish I could arrest him, but that would just add more fuel to the fire."

"You'll have to speak for yourself," Nirkha said with a malicious smile. "But I think there is going to be a lot of attention on this system going forward. Too bad I won't be here to see how it shakes out. Good luck."

And with that, he saunters off.

Based on his surface thoughts, he doesn't actually believe a word of it. He did this to stir up trouble and see lots of people running around searching for something he's sure doesn't really exist. The irony of his lie being so close to the truth is impressive.

"We need to get going," she said mentally. "There aren't any hunters in their own ships here now, but there will be as soon as word starts spreading. I can send a Naval recovery ship to get the Ancients ship and then they can wander all over and find nothing. I'll order one of the destroyers to clear the surface structures on the moon where the crashed ship is. They can pick that up, too. Then there will be nothing at all to find. I hope. Let's go."

Roscoe doesn't move. "He's met up with his friends who were listening in. They're laughing. They all think this is a big joke. All of them except one. He's laughing but I can't tell what he thinks. He has a mental shield. It is projecting some kind a false thought overlay, but it isn't matching what he is saying and that can't be right."

Aster stiffened. "Seriously? It might be nothing, but that might not be a coincidence."

Out loud, she speaks. "Roscoe, do you have eyes on them? I know you love your flying drones."

"I do," he said, pulling out his mobile comm. "Here you are."

She takes the comm and looks at the video feed. "Marines, I want them all taken into custody. Stay peaceful unless someone causes trouble."

The lead marine looked at the image and nodded. "On it."

The four of them trotted off and down the side corridor as their more heavily armed brethren moved up to take position around you.

You hear something up the corridor and then there is a shout. "Gun!"

And that's when the shooting starts.

Garvin sends to the Guild "Codeword: Ratshit. I'm callin' a "Code Brown" at the starport. Respond with extreme prejudice - but no exotics. Tell Walt to bring Growler".

He buttons up his double breasted trench coat leaving access to his knives. Drawing one he casually flips the blade ready for throwing and then grins at Madam Treegarden "Ma'am, you just hired the A Team".

He links to Roscoe "Kid, are you tooled up? Good work, just keep trackin' the spy an' don't let anyone tell you brown corduroy is out of fashion!"

Turning back to Treegarden he says "It's midnight at the masked ball. The pro's are lettin' their masks drop an' if they're in this game then they're after the archaeotech". He winks as he says " 'Eads up, treacle, 'ere's yer canary! Get 'im caged before 'e's away".

Garvin then grasps her arm to ensure "contact" range and "imprints" Aster's mind with the image of the renegade comms officer.

Turning to a nearby Marine Garvin says " 'Ere mate, you wouldn't 'appen to 'ave any 'and grenades would you? Madam Treegarden doesn't let me out much but when she does she likes me to 'ave fun. If the Lady nods you can just let me 'ave the lot".

Everyone else gets that over the neural link. Red alert! Or, ah, brown alert.

Two of the Marines have taken off to support their comrades, and the other two are spread a bit out, looking for trouble. Neither of them answer you. Lots of people running now. Some chaos.

"The man just disappeared," Roscoe said. "He's--"

Roscoe knocks Aster aside as a man appears from thin air right behind her. The android is inhumanly fast--blindingly so--and still too late. A blade slams through the front of Aster's blouse and her eyes widen for a moment before she coughs blood and her eyes roll back into her head, and she collapses into your arms.

It seems Roscoe is leaving her to you because he has the attacker's weapon's wrist in his hand, twisting it back and snapping it with zero effort, sending the knife clattering to the floor. Then the two of them freeze for a second, staring into one another's eyes, and the attacker collapses. He does not appear to be breathing. Nor does Aster.

This might upend Garvin's romantic plans a little unless he's very openminded.

Garvin instinctively and repeatedly shivs Roscoe's victim. After a moment he says flatly "I should 'ave ruddy seen it!" Then he stops stabbing and says "Well done kid - you played a blinder. Launch the Lost an' Found - kill any ship that leaves port an' then zero the main battery on my position". He takes a breath and says "Roscoe, all yer efforts now, please save 'er. Pro assassin - odds on she was stabbed straight through the 'eart. If you can't do it then get 'er aboard an tell Metz to save 'er! Just wait a second".

He screams across the neural link "Arkar, she's dead mate - I so need you now! Fekkin' "we'll explain it later" now! Do your thing an' get 'er to Metz!"

***Extensively Edited***
Walt-
Upon hearing the "Code Brown", Walt slips into Growler. He reaches out with Clairvoyance to the Neural Link produced location for Roscoe and Garvin. Immediately upon seeing the scene, he sees the stabbing of Treegarden and Roscoe struggle with the assailant. He teleports to the location just around the corner from view of the two Marines and rushes to Garvin's side.

"Friendly, Friendly! he yells to the Marines as Roscoe whizzes past him. "Friend of Treegarden and shipmate to these men. Here to help! As he sees the Marine rush by following. He looks in both directions and Garvin’s distraught look and cry makes his decision. He holds his hands out in plain sight and, when able, pulls up his sleeve to reveal a Marine tattoo...officer variety. Semper Fi!"What’s your name Marine, I’m former Major Slaine. I’m a member of the Guild working with and for Treegarden, as is Roscoe there and Garvin there…and Arker there. Tell ‘em Garvin.

When safe to do so, he’ll say: ”Good job Corporal Xxx to keep security on this. My friend Roscoe is taking Ms Treegarden to your official destination…my, our ship…The Lost and Found. We have an advanced auto dock. It’s incredible. Ms Treegarden’s things here. They need security and immediate transport from the threat area. We’re going to push the grav carts while you secure our path to the ship. Ok? Tracking? Let us help you complete your commander’s orders. I’m taking the anssassin along for an ID, too.”

I actually over DM's. It's one less = 9

Teleport: Psi Cost 4

Tig, you posted while I was typing. Unfortunately, the book specifically states Teleportation power cannot Teleport other people. Otherwise, Growler would have attempted that.

“I have her.” He grabs her and sprints for the ship at a speed none of you could match.

Right past Walt when he appears. :)

Out load...the Marines should hear... and while cradle-lifting her in his arms: "This looks bad Garvin. Fatal. She'll be dead in minutes." Over the net to all and with eye contact with Roscoe and Garvin: 'We need to get her to Bilis. It's the only way. She's dead ... just doesn't know it yet. I can't get her there instantly. Her only chance is to rush her there. Need a team approval on Bilis performing the Metz Special. Send you're agreement, if you do. Roscoe, take control of the Marines and move Treegarden's equipment as her on scene agent. They will follow your orders if they perceive you are protecting her and her things."

He'll not wait for agreement by everybody to be sent...he'll start moving expecting answers to come in.

"Garvin, secure our path to the Lost and Found! Hurry! Or I'll run you over."

"Marines! I'm taking her to our ship's autodoc. Follow Roscoe's authority to secure Ms Treegarden's classified cargo and follow to her destination...our ship...the Lost and Found. Tracking? Then move out!"

He'll run with Treegarden bringing to bear his herculean strength

You took too long to get to her. Honestly, you were too far outside his reaction loop from the start. You’re the most physical of the players, but when he is in android mode, it’s not even close.

You’ll need to handle the marines and a the gear yourself because Roscoe hauls butt past you at a full sprint with Treegarden in his arms.

Only two of the eight Marines are there and they have you covered hard, though one of them curses and tries to catch up with Roscoe. Tries, and fails.

Back to you for a restatement of actions.

For those aboard the ship, Roscoe boards before you can get off, a badly injured or dead Treegarden in his arms.

He ignores any attempt to engage him and races to the medical bay, dropping her into the auto doc and closing it. It gets right to work, cutting her clothes away from the wound and getting into her chest, but it is too early to tell much, other than anyone who looks at the monitors sees that there is no heartbeat.

Roscoe stands there, blood all over him and watches the autodoc with an inhuman lack of emotion on his face, utterly still. Then the display updates and indicates repairs are under way and changing the status from deceased to critically injured.

Then he breathes and sags a little. “That was too close,” he whispered. “She could easily have died. Now she will live, hopefully with no long-term issues.”

You so generously overlook my "rules lawyer" mind ;) :) . Put terribly brutally if Zho commandos can 'port with battledress and an FGMP you can 'port with the generously proportioned "meat" that was the ex Ms Treegarden... ;)

As it goes a literal "Mercy Dash" gives us so much more in the way of narrative so let's go with that. FFS at least it's one thing less to explain! :SAN:

Edit: Please allow for some shocking "post lag" here. This is, of course, great narrative.. ;)

Terry- Ok. Makes sense. I’ll edit the above.

Tig- I actually started posting with a teleport in and out, then saw that in the book and had to rewrite. Never played Psi in Traveller before.

You could likely have made it, but then you’d have to explain it. ;) Better this way.

It’s all in your hands, and any of the other players that come out to help.

To be fair, their battledress is special and has no negative DM for teleports. There would have been a healthy negative DM for talking the weight. -4, I believe. And extra psi cost. You’d likely still have made it and then had some splanin to do. ;)

If Roscoe hadn’t been brutally fast, the attacker could have touched the cart and taken the goodies. Wouldn’t that have been fun? If you’d run off or ordered Roscoe to, that was my plan. ;)
