Edit History

#1 Post by Eric.D »

I have made a grave error and edited, rather than quoted, a player post. Does US support edit history in any way?

My cursory search indicates this isn’t a native feature of phpBB, but I’m not super familiar and I’m hopeful I’m not the first person with this problem.

If not, I understand, just needed to know. Thanks in advance!

I don't believe so, but can you post a link to the post that was edited so we can take a look?

Hmm. I think the default setting is to not allow editing others posts. Probably for that very reason, Dave will know better than I. If I remember from DF there isn’t an easy way to get the info (something about digging it out of the database??) if you can access it at all. :/
I’m hoping Dave finds a different answer for you though Eric. Fingers crossed!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

One of my players had the original post open in an old tab that hadn’t refreshed, so there’s no emergency at this point.

If Dave knows more, I’m happy to learn for next time, though.

Thank you so much for your help, once again!

I finally carved out some time to research this a bit. Because Eric is the forum moderator, his permissions do include edit (but not hard delete) access:
Permissions Forum Moderators.jpeg
Permissions Forum Moderators.jpeg (95.83 KiB) Viewed 44 times
I scoured the Moderator Logs and can see what happened, but there (unfortunately) doesn't appear to be a version history of any kind that would allow us to roll back incidental changes like this. At least not directly through the forum software.
Moderator log EricD edit.jpeg
Moderator log EricD edit.jpeg (106.15 KiB) Viewed 44 times
EricD action.jpeg
EricD action.jpeg (71.33 KiB) Viewed 44 times

There might possibly be some extra functionality at the database level, but that access falls under Greg's (ToniXX) exclusive purview.

I'm just glad it sounds like no permanent damage was done.
