Chapter 1: The mystery of Odlo Hillhouse

Wenyld
Not that it really matters but Wenyld is a she.
Fumble [1d4]=1
Looks like the best possible result for a change.

Re: Chapter 1: The mystery of Odlo Hillhouse
Do you want new Initiative rolls?
Catching the hint from Odlo's words, Sully sprints towards the doorway on the opposite wall, throwing it open if he gets there unscathed.
Palmero had already moved towards the closed door in the south wall. Unless he is accosted along the way, his actions remain the same.
If either gets attacked, here are some attack rolls: Sully uses his new fist club to little avail. Attack [1d20]=9
Palmero uses his pitchfork against the skeletons. Attack [1d20]=17
Pitchfork Damage [1d8]=8

Re: Chapter 1: The mystery of Odlo Hillhouse
Bobwhite was not quick enough to speak before the others turned this into an attack.
He curses under is breath and instinctively skirts away from the undead dwarves, finding himself heading straight for Odlo.
"Odlo! You aren't yourself! Here, I saved you a biscuit!" he cries out, extending the napkin full of warm, fluffy baked good.

Re: Chapter 1: The mystery of Odlo Hillhouse
Yarnold takes on the same dwarf skeleton he jabbed earlier
Yarnold: Longsword stab [1d20-1]=14-1=13 [1d8-1]=8-1=7
Wenceslas will strike again at the tortoise and try to keep moving so as to hamper its movement to strike at him. He hopes any blessing gained from dedicating his pick might manifest to help him out too.
Wenceslas: swings his mining pick [1d20]=9 [1d4]=1
Xerxes & Zygmund must be walking to the room.

Bilberta rushes to the nearest dwarf and swings her battleaxe at it
here we go again...
Margit moves towards dwarf 2 and attempts to strike with his shovel
Sisyphus looks at his trusty bone before swinging it at dwarf 1

As far as initiative rolls go...
Yep you can always roll initiative at the beginning of each encounter. If not, no big deal. I'll do it. I had Palermo moving 30' and talking, so he didn't quite make it to the door last update. Of course, his speech was cut short by the attack and Odlo cutting off communication.

Re: Chapter 1: The mystery of Odlo Hillhouse
Rolled initiative using my die at home. Bobwhite able to communicate as his turn was superseded last turn.
Bobwhite walks towards Odlo, delicious biscuit extended. "Odlo! You aren't yourself! Here, I saved you a biscuit!" he cries out. GM rolls dice.
"Thank you friend! We shall enjoy it together once you have joined me in our destiny!" cries Odlo.
Wenyld moves to attack the nearest dwarf-skeleton. She swings high. Very high. The force of her swing carries her into a pirouette a ballerina would be proud of fumble!. It would be a hilarious sight if the situation were not so serious.
The skeleton injured by Yarnold stabs at its aggressor with its spear.
Its weapon pierces the throat of the unfortunate tax collector, killing him as his longsword clatters on the ground!
Rimilda advances on the skeleton that slayed Stirling. The anemic swing of her club finds its target with an anemic swing. -1 hp.
Two of the dwarf skeletons move to guard the door on the far side of the room as Sully dashes for it. One manages to intercept Sully with a thrust of its spear. It finds its mark, skewering the hapless elf, killing him instantly!
Dwarf attacks Sully [1d20+1]=14+1=15 damage [1d6]=6
Another dwarf skeleton advances on Wenyld. It too strikes well, but the dextrous orphan just manages to evade the strike Thank Ildavir for the +2 agility modifier!
Dwarf attacks Wenyld [1d20+1]=10+1=11 damage [1d6]=4
Wenceslas bobs back and forth, attempting to distract the tortoise as he attacks it with his pick. The dwarf strikes nothing but stone. Nordman looks for a way to attack Odlo, but realizes trying to jump on his back could expose him to a bony tail swipe. If anyone wants to try to get on the tortoise's back to attack Odlo in melee, they will need to make a DC 10 agility check then attack roll. Of course, Odlo is open to a ranged attack.
Palermo joins the fray. He stabs his pitchfork at the southernmost skeleton dwarf. The tines pierce the leather armor...the farmer lifts the skeleton off the ground and brings it crashing to the ground. Bones shatter and scatter as the animating force of the skeleton is extinguished!
Sisyphus, with his newfound bone-club, thunks the chest of Yarnold's slayer for minimal damage -1 hp. I seem to recall Sisyphus taking a short sword. Make sure to update your character sheet and roll an attack with that next round if you like.
Bilberta also moves into the fray. She swings a mighty strike with her newfound battleaxe, but it misses her target wide by a couple feet.
Margit is last to move into the fight. As he does, he faces an attack from another skeleton dwarf. The blade finds its mark, but fortunately for Margit the spear gashes his arm, leaving him alive. -1 hp, taking him to 2. Margit returns the attack with a swing of his shovel, but it bounces harmlessly off the skeleton's cracked leather armor.
Last to attack is the skeletal tortoise. Its large jaws open towards Nordman and catch the poor wizard's apprentice around the waist. It is a gruesome but quick death.
Tortoise attacks Nordman [1d20+3]=19+3=22 damage [1d6]=5
Odlo makes no attacks, but continues to survey the room. It seems his bad eyesight keeps him from knowing exactly what's occuring, but when he hears of injuries to the party, he cries "Yes! Yes! Embrace your destiny my friends!"
Wow. Enemies had good rolls this round. Feel free to narrate the deaths of Nordman, Yarnold, and Sully.
Rimilda and Sisyphus are engaged in melee with the injured skeleton D1.
Wenceslas is facing off against the tortoise.
Margit, Wenyld, and Bilberta are fighting two dwarves. Palermo and Bobwhite are not engaged currently fight. Zygmund and Xerxes will appear at the doorway at the end of the next round.
Target for the skeleton dwarves is AC 11, for the tortoise AC 13. Don't forget to burn luck if you're close! As they say, the PCs can't take it with them!

Re: Chapter 1: The mystery of Odlo Hillhouse
Bobwhite skirts backwards, muttering under his breath about "...waste of a good biscuit." Ducking behind the braizer, he times his moment and then shoves it over, trying to scatter magical fire over the turtle.
Re: Chapter 1: The mystery of Odlo Hillhouse
Rimilda, Wenyld, & Nordman
Nordman screams in agony as he is chomped in two.
Wenyld attacks D2.
Staff [1d20]=7 to hit [1d6]=6 damage
She will spend a luck if it will turn a 7 into a hit.
Rimilda attacks D1.
Club [1d20-1]=5-1=4 to hit [1d4-1]=4-1=3 damage
She will spend a luck if it will turn a 4 into a hit.
Not rolling very well at the moment.

Re: Chapter 1: The mystery of Odlo Hillhouse
Margit screeches in pain and has a vengeful look in his eyes. He attempts to strike the dwarf once more
unbelievable...
Bilberta seemingly surprised by the power of her last battleaxe swing, attempts to strike true once more
0.5% chance...
Fumble:
Bilberta's axe slips and nearly falls out of her grasp. -2 to hit next round, not that it seems to matter anyway

Wenceslas
Wenceslas: swings his mining pick [1d20]=1 [1d4]=2
He can burn a point of Luck to cancel the negative effects but is otherwise ineffective in his melee attacks.
Yarnold, surprised that he was not winning initiative on the dwarf skeleton, his swing interrupted and with him being summarily lifted off his feet as the spearhead goes through his chin, lifting him off his feet and dangling like a skewered ragdoll as the point breaks out his cranium leaking blood and grey matter in runny matted streaks. The last thing that goes through his mind is literally a cold iron and rusted blade. His eyes cross together in an exaggerated glassy squint.
Xerxes & Zygmund ready themselves, hearing the melee in the room ahead. The gravedigger has a prayer on his lips and holy symbol outstretched against the evils ahead. The wizard's apprentice carries his flaming torch.

Yep, Wenceslas can burn a luck point to avoid the fumble. Yarnold's attack would have been useful, but yes initiative was the determining factor.Stirling wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 4:43 pm Wenceslas

Re: Chapter 1: The mystery of Odlo Hillhouse
Three separate battles rage in the dwarven hall. Odlo continues to call out to his fellow villagers with periodic pleas. "Accept your destiny, friends!" and "Join me in protecting the great master's treasures!"
Between the two tables
Wenyld grips her staff and swings mightily at a dwarf-skeleton. A sharp crack resonates through the hall as the staff finds its target -6hp, 4 luck points burned. The skeledwarf buckles, but does not quite fall. After taking this blow the skeleton stabs at Bilberta with its spear. Bilberta's rusty chain mail saves the day as the spear point clangs into metal. No damage, but the pain causes her to favor her left side as she swings at an enemy. She misses badly fumble! and loses a firm grip on her massive battleaxe -2 attack roll next round.
Skeledwarf attacks Bilberta [1d20+1]=10+1=11 damage [1d6]=5
This miss leaves an opening for Palermo. The farmer again spears the skeledwarf by its armor, lifting it in the air and crashing it into the ground again -2 hp. Bones scatter, and Palermo's pitchfork has now ended two skeledwarves.
The other skeledwarf advances on Margit, piercing the gravedigger with its spear and ending his brief career as an adventurer.
Skeledwarf attacks Margit [1d20+1]=18+1=19 damage [1d6]=3
Wenyld, Palmero, and Bilberta now surround a skeledwarf.
Beside northern table
A skeledwarf gets the jump on Rimilda, driving its spear into her and ending the herbalist's life.
Skeledwarf attacks Rimilda [1d20+1]=17+1=18 damage [1d6]=5
Sisyphus attempts to avenge Rimilda's death with his new rusty short sword. The hunter stabs mightily into the leather armor. A stroke of luck keeps the armor from repelling the attack, and the blow leaves the skeledwarf near its second death. -4hp, 4 luck burned bringing him to 2 luck points!!!.
One of the dwarves guarding the eastern door advances on the hunter, attempting to avenge its comrade, but its strike misses wildly.
Skeledwarf attacks Sisyphus [1d20+1]=2+1=3 damage [1d6]=5
Things are looking dire for Sisyphus, under attack now by two of the undead dwarves.
Odlo and the tortoise
Wenceslas, perhaps still raging at the desecration of his kinsfolk's hall, swings wildly and misses at the tortoise skeleton. The dwarf looks in horror as the tortoise opens its skeletal maw then snaps at the dwarf with surprising speed. The jaws find their mark, crushing the dwarf to death. It releases its grip on Wenceslas' body and looks around for its next target. Wenceslas' critical hit reduced the tortoise's movement to 15' per round.
Tortoise attacks Wenceslas [1d20+3]=20+3=23 damage [1d6]=4
Bobwhite moves towards the brazier, hoping to tip its flaming contents onto Odlo and his mount. Odlo seems not to notice, instead turning his attention towards the dwarf near the east wall. "Now, fellow protector! Bring the antlers down!"
With that, the skeledwarf (D3) slashes at the rope binding the chandelier to the wall. It snaps easily, bringing the antler chandelier down upon the combatants near the table! The skeledwarf then begins marching towards the party.
I need DC 12 agility checks for Palermo, Wenyld, Sisyphus, and Bilberta to avoid 2d10 damage from the falling chandelier. Don't forget to use your luck if needed.
Bobwhite didn't quite have the movement to get to the brazier. Next turn he can attempt to push it towards Odlo and the tortoise. Please give an attack roll (ranged) with 1d6 damage if this is the desired move, Marullus.
Xerxes and Zygmund appear at the doorway as new witnesses to the carnage! As always, feel free to give your PCs a memorable death.

Rimilda grabs the spear as it sticks through her chest, then suddenly collapses with a gasp.
Wenyld just escapes being crushed by the falling chandelier.
Agility check (16/+2) [1d20+2]=11+2=13
She attacks skeledwarf D2 if it wasn't crushed by the chandelier.
Staff [1d20]=7 to hit [1d6]=2 damage
If D2 is already crushed she will run out of the room, back the way she came.

Wenceslas
The dwarf miner is surrounded by his undead kinsmen and the possessed Odlo imploring him to accept his fate and join their ever growing ranks.
It is scary enough to make even the stoutest dwarven heart faint and most congested bowels loosen.
He has that rogue thought, oft bemoaned by panicked shoppers thronging in the merchant malls of needing a latrine very quickly, since he feels his own 'tortoise head coming' and squeeze as he might, he just can't hoover it back into his rectum and stop any dungaree stains and embarrassment..
It seems today, Tortoise Head finally gets some revenge ...

Xerxes
Will utter a prayer and wrathful rebuke, thrusting his holy symbol forth and spewing some scriptural vehemence and condemnation.
Xerxes: Turn Unholy attempt (modified by personality & luck) [1d20-1]=11-1=10
Zygmund sees the bodies of his comrades and the desperation in the room. He notes Yarnold collapsed on the floor, his longsword by his feet. The mage-apprentice will rush to retrieve it and if time allows, join in the fight with Sisyphus.

Tipping fire [1d20]=9 [1d6]=2
Bobwhite ducks behind the braizer, shouldering it over towards the tortoise just as the skeletal beast begins to move, hoping to spray it with magical everburning fire. He considers the handaxe in his hand, then ducks further away towards the door to join Xerxes and Zygmund... just behind their legs. "Odlo is ensorcelled, he needs to be stopped. He isn't seeing clearly..." he tells them. He trails off and begins to fish through the small chest he carries under his arm.
