Quest #1 - The Search for Fonkin
Re: Quest #1 - The Search for Fonkin
Quinn looks very suspiciously at the murder holes in the walls, "Look guys, this is a killing space. I don't think staying here any longer than necessary is a good idea at all!"
He is examining the walls and floor carefully for traps and secret doors while the others fiddle with the box. If he does find a secret door (or trap) he will point it out.
Assuming he finds nothing leading forward from here, Quinn will step back to the doorway and say, "Let's go, Fonkin is not here. We need to look deeper."

Richard
"That, is actually a good point." Richard will stop before he actually picks up the box. "Quinn is right, let's move on."

Re: Quest #1 - The Search for Fonkin
Balto's map, should be updated. Where do you all want to head next? I'll assume the marching order is as follows: Richard -> Miranda -> Gurkidd -> Balteus -> Quinn
Re: Quest #1 - The Search for Fonkin
Quinn is holding the torch, (and is somewhat squishy) so he should be somewhere in the middle. I think Balteus was at the rear in our order of march, or am I miss-remembering?

I agree. Quinn is a squishy Mage. We want him in the middle not the end.
Also I am going to check the map tonight and add some descriptions to the rooms.

Re: Quest #1 - The Search for Fonkin
Let's backtrack a little bit and check out the door at the bottom of the map, south of the skeleton room. Don't want any nasties coming up behind us. Richard will lead the way, tapping at the ground in front of him with his polearm.
Re: Quest #1 - The Search for Fonkin
The party proceeded toward the door to the south. As they approached, they noticed the hallway continued about 10 feet west before it turned south.
Richard did not find any traps leading up to the door, which he spotted to be slightly opened.
Miranda pressed forward. She touched the handle and inspected the door. Nothing
She gripped the handle and slowly opened the door, revealing a dark, wide room.
Quinn approached the threshold with his torch. The light revealed what appeared to be a kitchen.
From their point of view, the party noticed a shallow pit in the floor, surrounded by stones, likely used for cooking or warmth. They could also see a wide table; an empty scroll case and clear sat near the edge.

Quinn will follow those ahead into the room, but move to the side next to a wall while the fighter types checked for monsters and the thief types check for traps.Nemesis wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 4:16 pm The party proceeded toward the door to the south. Gurkidd
Carefully follows Miranda Richard and Balteus into the room and eyes the scroll case on the table but his leg is still painful so he will wait until Miranda checks the table for any hidden traps or tricks.

Once everyone is inside, Quinn reaches over and pushes the door closed and then from his position next to the wall looks around the room for exits or other things of interest. He has also seen the scroll case and wants to look at it, but will wait until Miranda checks for traps or tricks.BaltoBruiser wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 3:54 am Gurkidd

"Well, someone has been here recently." Quinn nods at the scroll case.
OOC: What do you mean by "empty scroll case and clear sat near the edge?"

Richard
Richard will carefully approach the cooking pit, and hold a hand out above it, trying to assess if it was still warm, like if it'd been used recently. He will also look inside, to try to see if he can make out anything inside in the light of Quinn's torch.

I meant to write "empty scroll and a glass cup sat near the edge ..."
The cooking pit is not warm. However, there is fresh ash in the pit, meaning it had been used recently, likely within the past several hours.archolewa wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2024 3:59 am Richard

Richard
"Someone's been here recently. Last few hours." Richard will go and push the door closed. He will then take up position against the wall next to the door, so that if anyone tries to come in, he can get the drop on them, while the others continue to explore the room.

With Richard by the door, Quinn will move to the table and inspect the scroll case visually, without touching it...for now.archolewa wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 5:25 pm Richard

Is there any indication what scroll was inside the case?

Miranda, do you want to see if there are any traps on the scroll case? I am going to check for secret doors.
Moves to the southern wall and starts examining the walls for any irregularities. If he finds none on this wall he will move on to the Western and Northern walls in order.

Re: Quest #1 - The Search for Fonkin
Miranda approached the counter with the scroll case. She crouched and leaned close to it.
A faint ringing hit her ears. The sound grew louder, and louder, and louder. She realized it came from the case.
"Cover your eyes and ears!"
A blinding light flashed from the case. Then an ear-splitting bang.
The room returned to near darkness.
"Flash trap," Miranda said. "Good thing none of us picked it up. We would have lost our hand, our sight, our hearing, or all at once."
Richard and Gurkidd finished their search of the walls and rooms. They found nothing.

After the trap is sprung, if it's still usable, Quinn will pocket the case.

The case exploded into pieces of glass spread across the floor near the counter. There are some shards big enough to pocket, should you decide to do that.
