Re: Barrowmaze: Territorial Gains.
With the discovery of this new information, Sven gets to work.
He looks at the flicker in his soul gem, "Sister Magdalena, eh? Hopefully the temple priests will have some knowledge of her once we get back."
With his rats gone, he summons a new helper to aid them. Casts: Unseen Servant
After the thieves decide if the coffer is trapped or not, he has his invisible helper enter the room and pull the shield from its hook, hoping to see some kind of reaction one way or the other.
If the shield can be removed without consequence, he orders it to attempt to open the evil sarcophagus next, once everyone else is clear.

Gideon
"I might as well try to make myself useful."
What type of roll/check would this require?
Grognard-in-training. Learning the old ways to pass them on!
Re: Barrowmaze: Territorial Gains.
trap-finding not your Forte, but you could apply Wisdom checks to investigations into the other two side rooms; the museum type one and the middle crypt with the bronzed figure in the wall. What type of roll/check would this require?
A check is usually [4d6] vs an attribute score, for clerics, the main is a Wisdom based check. Skill checks can be modified by help, skill knowledge, environment, previous experiences, etc.

Looking at but not touching the black scale shield.
"Is this a black dragon scale shield? Maybe that is why it radiates evil."

Re: Barrowmaze: Territorial Gains.
Cosmo looks in and see if two more people would be in the way or not.
If he thinks he can help, he will speak to Gideon.
"Come with me I will show you some of the craft.
Cosmo would like to concentrate on the floor and seams around the sarcophagus thinking that more than a couple on it item might get to busy.

Sir Dewey
"Huh. Sundance, what do you remember since we met the sister? Everything?" He tries to wrap his head around this new information, hoping that both Sundance and Sister Magdalena didn't suffer any negative effects.
The Knight nods as the shield is removed without incident. "Unique find. There's a story there, I just know it. As for the coffer, there is the possibility that whatever's inside isn't evil, or at least is willing to talk. I want information."
As he says this, he raises his shield and readies his flail just in case. "Do it."
I know I keep pushing this, but I just keep getting the feeling that there are allied dead paladins down here. Or at least ones who will shed light on the history.

"Thanks Cosmo. I need to try to expand some of my skillset."
Following Cosmo into the sarcophagus room to try and glean any information, both from the room and Cosmo's techniques:
Wis Check vs 15 [4d6]=22
Is this the room referred to as Crypt A earlier in the thread?
Also, I'm now reminded of the combing the desert scene from Spaceballs...

Sigrid
Sigrid relieved that Sundance seems none the worse for wear, thinks back on their encounter with the good sister. When she hears about others remark about more searching for traps she states, "And the more likely one will be set off. Best to leave such things to the experts."
She thought back to her days in the north. It was common for the shaman of the village to call spirits into his body and use them to enhance his abilities. She wonders if its possible the sister's spirit resides still in Sundance. She looks at her a long time seeing if her knowledge of such things might give her insight on that matter.

certainly the mercenary looks different to the past few days. You might have put her drawn face, cold staring eyes and detached withdrawn manner down to the experience of being held for ransom by Nameless and crew. But now she seems back to her normal self, a fiery elf with colourful bar-room language and more extrovert manner. back to her normal self perhaps the key phrase. You will remember the healing touch of Sister Magdalena and could wonder if at that point, the spirit took possession of the mercenary. With Sven's recent command using his 'soul gem', expecting to cage any released wraith escaping this breached chamber, he may have inadvertently exorcised the nun's spirit out of Sundance, the casting out command invoking the spirit to leave but causing the serious wounding in the process. Having offered her healing touch to yourself first, it may well have been yourself being exorcised. She thought back to her days in the north. Sir Dewey
Sundance will speak of bad dreams and evil thoughts, things she put down to the trauma of past experiences. Explaining she may have been possessed via the nun's healing touch, it explains a few things. Going back to the conversation held with the nun's spirit, the acolyte had spoken of betrayal but some if the knights against others. Sundance had been having similar thoughts; to betray, to lead astray, to waylay the group. Thinking of 'allied paladins', you might conclude that Sister Magdalena was deceitful and perhaps became cursed to some amphora based (or magic jar type vessel) existence as she may have betrayed her vows to St Ygg whilst supporting the expedition she was a part of. A timely warning then that the Gods watch and hear even in this forsaken place and judge according to a person's actions."Huh. Sundance, what do you remember since we met the sister? Everything?" He tries to wrap his head around this new information, hoping that both Sundance and Sister Magdalena didn't suffer any negative effects.
Despite complimenting Isvand's own investigation, neither can locate any traps or obvious dangers.Cosmo would like to concentrate on the floor and seams around the sarcophagus thinking that more than a couple on it item might get to busy.

Re: Barrowmaze: Territorial Gains.
So ...
Inside the black and gold sarcophagus is a black pool of murky water. No body, no creatures, no burial goods, no gold. Just a bath tub of stagnant black water.
At this point the two black walls of black pudding like gel begin to leak a pool of black pudding.
Miners dodge the pudding pool: Meatloaf, Ozzie, Plantie, Lemmy vs dex [4d6]=10 [4d6]=13 [4d6]=13 [4d6]=17Black Pudding damage: [1d8]=3[1d8]=5[1d8]=5
Rather than explode out of the wall with a striking pseudopod, the Black Pudding simply leaks, pouring forth to pool upon the tiles right in front of the wall and begin to spread out in a sticky carpet of acidic gel. Caught by the surprise action, the miners are slow to dodge the melting and corrosive ooze, three of them getting wounded as they dive headlong through the breached wall.
Ozzie -3hp
Plantie -5hp
Lemmy -5hp.
Those in the room and a step away from the flow are not injured but realise the spreading Black Pudding is quickly increasing in size and thickness.
Dropped torches fire damage on Black Pudding [3d4]=3
The miners torches burn the pudding but only minimally before they are smothered and snuffed out.
Actions Gideon, Cosmo, Isvand, Sir Dewey are all in the chamber. A successful dexterity check may see you leap over the pool to dive through the door. not sure if Orgoth is in the room, you can act in accordance with the above if you are.
Actions everyone please

Orgoth
Orgoth has entered to cover the others. He wouldn't be far from the door, in a central location.
Orgoth falls back towards the door, "Everyone out, its trying to trap us in. here!"

Sigrid
Having exhausted her supply of oil in her encounter with the troll, the young mage sees little she can do to help with the black pudding so she moves to stay out of the way and let those better equipped handle the thing. The readies her sling though is doubtful it would damage the thing. She tries to recall what if any knowledge she might have of such creatures.
