Well, the house was pretty clean and tidy ready for the deluge of family, but (despite being told we were hosting a party and need a week off) the builders are arriving to do things, so everything has to be cleared away while they work, then cleaned and tidied again - but on a shorter timescale - while guests arrive over the days leading up to the weekend. Plus, a lock failed today and took more time to replace than anyone (including the workman) expected.

TL:DR - I'm too busy.

I'll try and get something up, but it won't move us on much. Sorry.

Hope to get something up this weekend (if not before) doing a bit of trawling back to try to refresh my memory of / disentangle various versions of plans. FWIW I think I have most of a response ready which outlines our plan of attack (which doesn't seem particularly complete...).

Inspired by your last here's my current "mullings"... and the rocks upon which I foundered while attempting to fashion a reply...

I'm hoping a few cognitive pints tomorrow night may reconfigure my musings into something sensible/vaguely tactically viable! ;)

As I see it at the moment we have firmed up our "approach" (slave display/marketing) and "method" (drug the Aslan to make them aggressive) but this now doesn't really seem to fit with the new steer from Theev to take them alive...

This last is what's causing me (and no doubt even moreso Raven!) some tactical angst because capturing surprised "civvies" (our slaving métier) really isn't the same as capturing alert warriors (at least one of whom is in fully enclosed armour and therefore immune to most/all of our incapacitants). We had planned to "kamikaze drone" this major threat and/or throw the Thundercat at him - and should still do so!

As I understand it we have got a number of "Trojan Horse" bots into their hangar to smuggle in our military weapons to deal with the Aslan in milspec gear (and those males who aren't!) but all this prep work is also stymied by Theev's latest "Could you just take them all prisoner instead?" I suggest the answer should be a very robust "No - we're not prepared to risk/accept the casualties of "pussy footing around" with Aslan!" - see what I did there??? ;) :P

In fairness I must declare that I'm not familiar with this version of Traveller and its combat mechanics so I am working on applied tactical knowledge from other iterations which may steer me false.

However, we have a first hand example of how utterly ineffective Tranq can be when Raven had her falling out with Aristoteles. His knockout gas simply failed to put her down. Note male Aslan will no doubt be getting bonuses to the END saves vs Tranq (that Raven fluked). This is the inherent trouble with a "non lethal" option - it frequently fails to work at all!

As far as combat effectiveness goes I expect the male Aslan to be on par with combat based PCs (and able to take more damage) which puts them streets ahead of our warband. Bear in mind an Aslan warlord is scheduled to turn up and is surely likely to bring a few mates/something of an entourage.

The execution phase of our plan is vague at best. We have the means to get ourselves in contact with our targets/victims and start a firefight but have nothing planned on achieving our actual objective - stealing the ship. The problem I foresee is that we can't get aboard before the fight starts and so must avoid any crew stationed aboard (a bridge watch) simply locking us out and waiting for the Blackrock bots/cops to show up.

A tech solution to the above might be shown in their operation of the "security station" in the hangar. If this controls the ship doors then we might be off to the races! As a back up / alternative we should consider explosive entry.

Hope the above provides some ideas to kick around. ;) :)

Not much time, but:

We are not required to capture Aslan. A grand bounty is out for Her Words Calm Prey alive, a big bounty on any live Aslan, a small bounty on dead Aslan. We are under no obligation to capture…just enticed.

We previously discussed using the janitor robot to inject tranquilizing gas into the Pouncer’s station-to-air supply. That’s why Tiv asked to purchase another access code clone for one of the janitor robots, so as to open the hanger-station blast door and the hangar air-lock doors for the reinforcements. The ship repair robot is expected to be at the ship’s air port at least to start the fight. Conducting an all out assault on the combat suited Aslan defender to gain access the ship as the bridge crew dozes off was the plan.

As for the cat nip. The first few laced snack consumers should get the party started.

I thought we were planning on bringing Roberta and have her pull a Chewebaca move when the fighting starts. Other demo slaves
are expendable compared to the value of the Pouncer’s.

The Pouncer is objective Prime. Killing when necessary, capturing when able…is on the table.

Quick notes:

Thumper is right, the bonus for live cats is not an obligation, just an option.

Raven resisted the gas for 1 round, then it was halted. The second lungful would probably have worked.

Remember, the Aslan won’t know genuine slaves from Oghmen in mufti. Probably.

(Chance to text granted by inconsiderate relative hanging about all day interrupting the work we’re meant to be doing for tomorrow’s party. Meant to be looking after themselves, stayed for lunch, which we had not catered for.)

Thanks for clarification of where we are at / what we have agreed to do re: Aslan.

I'm finding this very valuable both in its own right and as we are all getting on the same page in review of the plan. 8-)

More random thoughts:

Pre-emptively killing threats / things that fight back and then capturing those that surrender reverts the plan back to "basic" - for which the warband are grateful! :) It also helps us retain the military initiative as we're not "faffing about" with shoot/don't shoot target selection. PCs can do the fancy stuff but for the warband we need to operate within the confines of their expected performance! :P However, the warband will do us a perfectly good job if we keep it simple and straightforward.

With the prisoner policy of "low hanging fruit" and a dedicated combat tasking to capture Her Words alive (Tiv here - with his fancy stun gun??) this all seems much more doable.

Piping Tranq gas aboard the Pouncer deals with the onboard crew issue.

Maybe we need to consider layering in an (Aslan) Tranq gas option outside the Pouncer as a redundancy atop the efforts of our storming party? Our grenade launchers are ideal here but were previously going to crack armoured targets with HEAP. We could use our snub weapons as poor man's grenade launcher here and dedicate a warband shooter to spraying Trang gas with the snub SMG. From Arming Room: 2xAssault Snub SMG 100rnds Auto 2 or 8(RF) recoil–1 900cr 2.5kg That'll do nicely! Note to self: everyone will need respirators.

I think the more N/PCs we can use in the disguised slave contingent the better - Roberta sounds ideal. Firstly and most importantly it gives players a front row seat! :D Secondly these N/PCs are going to be effective in their own right and this in turn helps the warband as they can "mob" targets (mitigating their lower hit probability). Again thanks for the reminder re: Roberta. I must have overlooked that detail when trawling the main thread for plans!

Yes: clear and simple commander intent is required here for the NPCs. “Kill/tranq, as per your assigned role, until no Aslan is standing. Cuff any live downed Aslan. If a downed Aslan becomes a threat after downing, kill ‘em”.

My thoughts precisely

Both terrific thoughts

As for Roberta’s impersonation of Chewy, I couldn’t find the historical literature/cannon. I might have thought that and not written it… 😁

I think it's worth also throwing into the ring that we've got a number of PCs and NPCs with passable medic skill. Medusa wants the Aslan alive, but not with their original number of holes. If push comes to shove we can always default to standard breach and clear tactics and try not to reduce anyone to paste. "Dying" isn't "dead" after all.

I forgot about/missed the plan to gas the ship, so I'm all for that. I do want to point out that historically that plan has been tried and ended up killing a lot of people, so it's not quite the silver bullet we need. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_th ... age_crisis for the curious). How much of a problem that will be really depends on where sit on the scale from realistic to action movie.

As far as wildly spraying rounds goes, the full auto rules and an auto-8 weapon mean that Remington might actually be kind of useful for that. He has no training, of course, but the mechanics for full auto mean he's liable to get one or two hits a round.

Just re posting these here to keep them in our collective mind as WIP.

Note the redundancy in drones: one courier which can make an approach without raising eyebrows and another kamikazi FPV drone as back up. Both carry anti armour shaped charges.

Now adding two Snub SMGs for Remington and one for Ragnheiðr.

Sigmundr Boarding Axe, Stunstick, Bola, ACC, Þórir Auto Grenade Launcher, Dagný Sword, Shock Baton (as Armourer she carries Raven's PGMP), Gulbrandr Boarding Axe, Stunstick, Bola, ACR, Grenades, Bjartr Boarding Axe, Stunstick, Bola, ACC, Grenades, Stáli War Pick, Stunstick, Bola, ACC, Grenades. Raven also does some more work aided by a spot of welding from Handson as she creates Remmington's (new improved) "Industrial" Totem staff. It has cogs and dangly chains being quite the "standard".
