Burzyn Bound
Re: Burzyn Bound
Arngeir nods and thinks for a moment, composing his oath.
"I, Arngeir Orlygsson, swear by Sarajin, and faithful Deanaal, I shall cast no invocation to harm those here this day."

Sir Gerolt of Selot
Gerolt stepped back slightly, then nodded to the baron and said, "Arngeir's telling is much better than mine, and I have seen his spell work wonders for understanding."

Having made his head bow to the Baron is now amused with Arngeir's preparations for the tale telling.

I'm going to assume I get the nod from the baron and keep things moving forward.
"Will ask the Elkyri Easlyn to bless my telling."

That's a MS, providing +20. I'm also going to use 20 piety, to give a 95% chance of casting Tongues
Percentage: [1d100]=56
A MS
Arngeir attempts to spin a tale where everyone gets a fair share of the focus for their part in the hunt. He will start at the point they found the drake skin, but won't mention the outpost.
If you want more detail of the telling let me know.

Sigh, at least it's only a MF. I guess he hit the wrong tone with his more cultured audience

Baron Rythal
"An interesting tale indeed. I am not sure your God blessed you much as I still did not follow all of your tale. But I think I got the general tale. Killing a Forest Dragon is very impressive, especially for a small group of hunters."
He pauses for a moment, seemingly studying everyone. "You mentioned a village, what village were you referring too?"

Sir Gerolt of Selot
"Darcen, My Lord Baron. In ancient times there was a trail to Azadmere, and there is a Khuzdul burial area there. We helped re-lay one to rest." Gerolt paused, and then continued. "Darcen still has a few buildings, and the water is good. It is a dangerous place; not just the drake, but the tribes and the orcs may also be interested in the area. Rebuilding would be risky, but profitable. In the long term, perhaps even politically useful to you, since a path to Azadmere that bypasses Kaldor benefits Chysbia."
"That is both the plan and the request. If nothing is done in Darcen, then there is no cost and no change. No risk, but no real reward." Gerolt smiled, relaxed, and pointed at the drake head. "We didn't tell you what we might do, we showed you what we have done. As you said, we are a mixed group. I think we can do more, with your blessing and support. Please grant me authority to reclaim Darcen for Rythal. Perhaps we can get the Khuzdul to again be interested in the area? Perhaps there are Ivinians who tire of court life in Geda and would like a challenge befitting a warrior?"

Algrim keeps silent for the time being busy trying not to do anything that might displease the baron or make himself look like a fool before the baron.

Re: Burzyn Bound
Eldura clears her throat.
"Milord, if I may add to what is already said. The location is already quite defensible. There'd be no imminent need for putting further strain on the quarries or to empty the coffers funding a manor. In fact, I feel assured that we can withstand attacks from both gargun and warbands. Or dragons for that matter, as already proven." She glances left at Gerolt to see his reaction, then bows and takes a step back again.

Gerolt grinned at Eldura, turned back to Baron Rythal, and winked. "The lady speaks truly. I would add that Eldura is not from Chysbia, and her customs are different from ours. She may not know how much wise men pay attention when a lady says things like 'defensible' and 'not drain the coffers'. She is a treasure in her own right."
"What questions do you have of us, my lord? What challenges do you see as we move forward?"

"Darcen you say, I have been to every manor in my barony. Ruins or not and I don't recall Darcen being particularly defensible. Good land and I would welcome it being re-settled though. That said it will take a bit more than just asking me to grant it to anyone. But you have me intrigued. The lot of you are interesting and clearly capable. Two Ivinians, two Khuzdul, a foreign women and a knight of Larani. I am not sure you could be more interesting. You mentioned Azadmere, it is a long ways from here across some of the toughest terrain on the island. I would certainly welcome more trade with them but it would be no mean feat to reclaim that ancient road. I honestly doubt anyone short of having an army at their disposal could reclaim it. Perhaps a plan a little more believable would convince me."

Re: Burzyn Bound
Sir Gerolt of Selot
Gerolt nodded and smiled as Jebril spoke. "It will be no mean feat indeed. That's why we are asking for your support, it will take a leader with strength and vision. The current road runs through Kaldor, which will soon be in a succession crisis. That means our current route to Azadmere will be subject to whatever happens outside of our control."
He pointed to the drake head. "Killing the drake did not end all dangers in the forest, but showed intent and capability. That granted us this audience, and you rightly see how well diverse peoples can work together. Fighting the gargun and the tribes is a worthy cause, and will prepare us if troubles in Kaldor cross into our borders. Having an army is easy, having experienced warriors and leaders is totally different. What if our band's diversity inspired others? What if local Khuzdul saw the possibility of collecting Gargun heads while clearing a path for their kin? What if other Ivanians saw the chance to gain honor and glory?"
Gerolt shrugged. "We can choose to do nothing about Darcen, the gargun, the tribes, and Kaldor; hoping they leave us alone. Or we can rightly look at history, see that doing nothing is fatal, and forge our own path. A clear trail to Azadmere may not happen quickly, but if we do not act, we guarantee that it will not happen at all."
"My Lord Baron, further up the trail are the ruins of a Khuzdul outpost. It can't hold an army, nor can it feed itself. It would make a good base of operations, once fixed up. However, it is Khuzdul. That means they will likely feel it is outside of our territory, and that will cause a political issue." Gerolt grinned. "Unless we also begin to rebuild Darcen, and you discuss the arrangements and agreements with any Khuzdul emissaries who wish to inquire. A joint effort that reaps gargun heads will benefit everyone."

Re: Burzyn Bound
Eldura is eager to hear what the Baron has to say about the mention of the outpost. When she was talking about a "defensible" location she was describing the outpost without explicitly revealing its existance.

Dissapointed by his rendition of their fight with the drake, Arngeir keep his mouth shut and lets Sir Gerolt to the talking.

"And things become more interesting yet. You seem to have taken on the role of spokesman Sir Gerolt, intended or not. An outpost you say. Very interesting indeed. I will certainly consider your offer, but that will take a little time and as it happens I am in the middle of planning something. Perhaps your band might be interested in it. I will be traveling into the Anadel Highlands with Marshal Marak and prince Balesir to hunt a griffin that I spotted on my last hunt there. Would you all like to join me, a few extra good men are always welcome."

At the mention of a griffin hunt Arngeir perks up. He looks around at the others:
"I cannot speak for my friends, my lord, but I would be interested in such a challenge, and in such honoured company."

"We shall have to make plans then. My hunting lodge we are planning on using may not be large enough but some tents should do nicely to supplement the space. An interesting morning." His passion for hunting shows through as the topic swings to discussion about the griffin hunt.
"I will make sure that this head is taken care of and it is mounted properly. Meanwhile our accommodations here in Caermel are not grand but I can arrange for the room at the inn for you. I have some duties I must attend to today and tonight but we will meet again soon to discuss this more."
