Thanks, things to consider.

I'm currently leaning towards some suitable flourishes and sword work, but still thinking about it.

What are pros and cons from fighting on horseback?

The fight between 15s and 30s of the following clip is exactly the kind of thing I visualise :-)

:D it certainly was.

The more I think about it the more I'm taken with the idea of grabbing a bucket of oil from one of the villagers and drenching the approaching fighters. (intention to make their footing more treacherous). This would be an example of setting up an advantage?
With a skill?

So, that would need a conflict to get the bucket and a fight roll to drench the fighters?

Would each of these steps be a separate turn on my part or would it be a single 'action' with two rolls?

If I were wearing cloth based armor, and drenched in oil while near a roaring fire, I'm not sure my biggest concern would be on my footing.

So, look at your character sheet; skills, stunts, aspects. Tell me how you can move a bucket of oil from one place to another, and what it might entail. For the record, I have at least one idea, but it's not my character.

For mounted combat, you have choices to make. Technically, a spear gives the footman a distance edge. However, these guys don't have a solid formation, and most don't have a lot of experience fighting a horseback rider, either. Your horses could probably run over any of them, and you're all skilled enough riders to close and negate the spear's length advantage.

OK, so here is a bunch of possibilities I can see:

Use called shot to the hand of a villager to they drop a bucket so I can grab it. I'm not sure if I'd be close enough to grab it if I'm using a pistol, and I don't like the idea of shooting a villager.

The next option is the same as the above but using my sword, although called shot is for firearms. Again, I'm not that happy about injuring the villager with the sword

Third option, stamp on the foot of the villager and grab the bucket as he let's go to hop around holding his injured foot. Maybe do some kind of spin, stamp, grab and the momentum takes me back around to spray to approaching warriors. This is my current favorite, uses fight and athletics.

In thinking of the third option, consider that if Louis used his sword to capture the bucket by the handle, and pulled it into an arc against the landschnekts, would the villager argue?

Okay, two things. First, everyone gets a free Boost; a one time +2 on a die roll, or a re-roll. I passed an introductory algebra class today, and I'm celebrating. Barely passed algebra in the mid-70's, and I've let my lack of math skills beat me up for a long time. Today is a great day for me, and I'll share the joy!

On a totally different note, I just watched the Three Musketeers movie that shaidar referenced. Not bad at all. Let's think about how to replicate some of the fun in it. Toss out suggestions, and build on whatever others say. The first thing to be aware of is that the landschnekts are two groups; the leader, and the five others. You can attack the five others as a group, and if you attack well then each Shift takes out one of the group. Which means you could take your first action to Create an Advantage, so that your second action, in the next round, got the +2. Think of stuff like that. The leader isn't that tough, but isn't a group item.

Congratulations Leitz! We all have strengths and weaknesses, I am very good at math and not so good at writing and language. Thanks for the Boost!

Congrats!

It is a great film, it's been a while since I watched it. I must try and find some time.

Building on previous discussion, could the bucket of oil be used on the group of landschnekts? Or is there not enough?

Another thought is that those still on horseback could rush through the group to put off kilter and we use the oil for the leader.

Either one and then maybe Farid can focus on the other?

You're only fighting two opponents; the leader, and "everyone else". So, if you toss the oil, then you Create an Advantage, because the target will be afraid of catching fire. That advantage won't last, though, so you get one use unless you Succeed with Style. Note that Louis could throw the oil, get one Advantage, and let Kerecsen use it.

If you toss the oil at the group, and then someone scores three hits on the group with the Advantage, then your oil bathed three landschnekts. Seems the easiest way to think of it. Farid could ride through the group, and Create another Advantage by disbursing them, and then someone could then attack the group. The advantage, if left unused, would go away after the next turn, because the oil drenched would move away from the fire, and the bowled over would stand up.

You can stack the Boost I gave you with any advantages created, plus any Aspects you pay a Fate Point to activate.

Does that make sense?

Makes sense, but I think we need to try and coordinate what we do for max affect.

Your PCs are all experienced, and know each other. Feel free to OOC plan and chat, since it would represent the character's knowledge of each other.

I like the idea of throwing the oil, then having Farid ride and disperse the group.

But I'm guessing we'd need to throw the oil, gain advantage to take out some if the group. Then dispurse the group to gain another advantage for the next attack?

I am good with that. Farid should ideally go after the landschnekts I think. Maybe not directly applicable but his Rapport Stunt is focused on military personnel so it seems in character for him to focus there.

So, you're thinking Farid dispurse the group while in parallel Louis uses the oil on their commander and then engage him.

That would work, with the boost I don't think we need to both focus on the same opponent.

Congratulations on the math Leitz! I'm not very fond of math either. I usually understood what was going on after the test.

Kerecsen with Riding +4 will bowl over the commander and try to slap him (preferably on the butt) with the flat of saber. I don't know if doing that and also knocking him down with a horse is physically possible. :)
