With the proper ingredients, he most certainly can!
 Sounds like he knows from experience. Now I'm glad Shanny didn't get any of his stew from Ohare. But if it was trog, it did smell good.

Shannigans again waits for his window, either to attack, escape, or complete another assignment from the group.

Technically, yes, you could have. If you want to, I'll reposition everyone, but if you were to slide south (to where #8 is on the map below), you'll create a space where you're currently standing. Either way, #8 will be able to enter the fray, it's just a matter of whether you'd want them to be where they currently are, of if you'd want to swap places with it.

Actually, he already is, and is directly behind O'rek. Without an extended weapon, though, he cannot attack from the second rank.

I will update the map shortly and make sure to include Ewell and Shannigans on it (both of whom I missed placing at the end of last round).

No problem. It, and the monster numbers, will be updated in the round 12 map.

Round 12

#366 Post by dmw71 »

Was missing attacks from Strom and Epsilon so I made the following rolls on their behalf:

Strom [1d20] = 18 [1d8+1] = 8+1 = 9
Epsilon [1d20] = 4 [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5

---

The creatures act first on both sides of the passage.

To the North
Grimnail, the furthest north in the passage, still finds himself paired off against two troglodyte beasts who remain unable to penetrate his defenses. Strom, now facing a trio of trogs, get skewered by the middle of the lot (-5). The weaponless beast continuing its pursuit of Kaltar and manages to catch the cleric with one if its claws (-2).

Grimnail bellows after his last attack dropped one of the pesky troglodytes and he beckons the other lizards to follow. Then, with another mighty swing of his curved blade, the barbarian repeats his feat and drops another beast.

Strom, following the lead of the half-orc to his left, hacks at the already wounded troglodyte he's facing and nearly slices the beast in half with a powerful slash of his bastard sword. The knight is able to take a few planned steps south, which allows Grimnail to do the same.

Kaltar, in the passageway and fighting his way back north, swings his mace at the opponent that has scratched him in consecutive rounds and, after connecting solidly, watches the third creature in as many attacks crash lifelessly to the ground. The cleric steps forward to prevent young Darrin from being targeted and meets Grim and Strom just south of the side passageway.

---

In the Middle
Fimmion, Shanningans and Ewell, in order, line up behind O'rek awaiting their opportunities to get involved.

---

To the South
O'rek, Gwillt and Epsilon are each squared off against a single foe each. O'rek, the furthest north of the three, manages to evade the attack of his enemy and thumps the life out of the off-balance beast, dropping it, the fourth kill of the round by the party. He pushes his south and towards the wall a few steps allowing the eager Ewell to squeeze into the opening at the 'Y' intersection.

With the last known troglodyte from the right branch of the 'Y' intersection entering the fray and immediately attacking, and missing, Epsilon the final troglodyte currently in this southern passage, swings around and takes the attack to Gwillt. It misses.

Neither Gwillt nor Epsilon are able to land successful blows.

Another great round for you guys, dropping four troglodytes! The remaining monsters have been renumbered on the map by batch, with (a) prefixing those coming from the side passage, (b) for those coming from the south, and (c) for those coming from further north.

In the north, you are *almost* able to perform a more normal withdrawal back down (south) the passageway. There is kind of a cluster right there where the main passage and the side passage intersect, and 'a9' is in the way.

There are only three remaining troglodytes in the south, and one of them is wounded, so your situation seems to have improved significantly over the course of the last few rounds.

Moving to round 13.

Actions and initiatives.

The halfling sees a window, however small, along the cave's walls. "I could fire an arrow right thru that little space there and probably hit one of thos..." Then he sees Epsilon at the end of his targeted tunnel and he lets the idea fade. Daggers ready, the hobbit nervously waits.

Kaltar wants to mke sure of the retreat so he attacks the trog in the middle:

Mace Action To Hit [1d20] = 2 Dam [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7

But he misses badly.

Initiative [1d10] = 5

Finding himself heavily covered by lizzies Grimnail enters a blood frenzy thrusting his curved blade wildly.
"If weez gonna die'ere," he growls to his comrades, "Let us be ferever in der nightmares!"

Scimitar [1d20+4] = 11+4 = 15 Thac0: 20 Damage:[1d10+3] = 8+3 = 11

I know that we have quite a few proud warriors in this group, but you guys are having a hard time up north from the looks of things. If Fimmion were to hypothetically cast a light spell on one of the swamp beasts up north, effectively blinding them for a few moments, would the warriors take advantage of it and make a tactical withdrawal? Fimmion could certainly do so if the group is alright with it.

I understand that such a thing will not be possible until the southern escape route opens up, but yeah, thought I would through it out there.

Strom would use any advantage to withdraw to better ground. So light the place up.

Also thank you to our brave DM for rolling what may be Strom's first useful hit ever. I hope this has broken his curse of uselessness.

Initiative [1d10] = 6

Gwillt sees... a glimmer of hope as Ewell enters the southern fray and there appear to be no more trogs behind the three at the intersection.

To Hit, Scimitar [1d20+4] = 7+4 = 11

Unfortunately, he is unable to do anything to reduce that number...

O'rek strikes again. Starting to wonder about getting out of here in one blessed piece!

War hammer attack [1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16 (THACO=20)

Warhammer Damage (+1 weapon, +3 str dmg) = [1d4+4] = 2+4 = 6

I'm assuming Fimmion is going to wait for the southern pass to clear up before casting anything, but correct me if I'm wrong. I'll also need an action from Ewell (and confirmation that, given his current health, he would enter melee before being healed.

So be it...
Ewell knows he must keep fighting, even if it kills him. It is the groups only chance for survival. He jabs with his shiny clean sword.
longsword to hit (+3 str bonus): [1d20+3] = 11+3 = 14 , damage1d8 (+4 str bonus): [1d8+4 ] = 5+4 = 9
(thac0-19 hopefully hits, and hurts bad)

Now if that trogs goes after Orek, Ewell shall live. If he goes after Ewell, maybe Orek can use a CLW on EWell in the process???

ooc: I've been agonizing on how to use my last CLW. Gwillt needs one, I could use one... I think if I use one in combat versus someone in melee is a bad thing - the person receiving has to not use move essentially and allow for an increased attack advantage if I understand correctly (2E PHB).... After this round is over, maybe we'll have a better opportunity... problem is going to be AFTER the south group is done - the group in the north is in big trouble even if we back out of here....

...assuming no more trogs attack us from these corridors..

That's the plan so far, waiting until the southern entrance clears up before he casts his magic.
