The Princess
Wisdom check (15): Hard Check: [4d6]=17
"If it's not the bugs it's the sun, right? This is miserable. The rock cliff must be reflecting the heat back on us." The Princess is too busy complaining to notice anything amiss.
She nods at Wake's offer. "Sounds good to me, although out here it's going to be hard for anything to sneak upon us. Which does make it an interesting place for a settlement."
The Princess isn't that interested in marching off to confront murderous dwarves. She really wants to get a town established so she can continue her research and money changing.

Liam keeps doing his Liam thang... coordinating, taking in any news, leading by example as best he can.
Once enough brush is cleared and sorted he will begin helping organize some people to construct some lean-tos that can later be lashed together as walls for larger structures or fencing.

The Long Black CLiffs
Mid Afternoon
The group up on the cliffs looks out onto the vast marshland, but the bright sun messes with their vision. None but Wake sees the dark black shadow on the horizon, a large flying shape well off in the distance.
The group coming towards them must have spotted the lone figure too, as their pace seems to increase substantially.
Actions?
Luther
The Princess (-1 first)
Wake (-1 first)
Sir Narramore
Founding Clifftown
Late Afternoon
Liam seems to be well in his element, keeping the common folk working and making sure there are no problems that need sorting out. Marge takes control of the cave crew, getting that ready for people to spend the night inside. Chauncey uses his MAGIC to make Grimm unseen, the dwarf asking if he can lead the group heading to the Stoneguts mine.
Wes also uses his powers of nature to increase the amount of the best leaves, vines, and palms for building. He knows that they wont be able to heal or regain their magic without a good place to rest, so building a shelter that will keep out the bugs for the group leaving in the morning becomes his main priority.
Any other things this crew would like to do before heading out to see the dwarves?

Grimm
The dwarf will enjoy his invisibility while they're in the (relative?) safety of the camp. He will listen to conversations, see what others do without them seeing him, take a quick peek at the environs without leaving the camp, etc.
If things get delayed he will take a nap before leaving, not without saying Wes and Chauncey where he will be dosing... Although probably he will be easy to spot just by following his snoring.

Wake
Wake will point out the dark black shadow to his companions, looking around to see if there is cover in case it comes closer to us.

Re: Founding Clifftown
Chauncey dusts off his hands after casting Invisibility on Grimm and then addresses a spot approximately 3 feet to the right of where the dwarf is actually standing.
"Now, Grimm, remember: don't attack anyone or take any sort of aggressive action or the magic will cease and be wasted. Also, keep in mind that animals can still smell you and your footprints may still be observed," he says, at which point he looks down, observes Grimm's footprints in the sand and corrects his angle.
"Now, though you'll be leading this expedition, we should, perhaps, in a purely literal sense, follow Wesley until we arrive at our destination. It's hard to follow an invisible person," he says.
"And finally, while I understand the temptations being unseen presents, do not forget: I can see you when I choose." He pulls out his stone of See Invisible and puts it to his eye. "So no peeking in my travel bag."

Sir William Narramore
Narramore listens intently to Wake's description of the large shadow and immediately begins seeking appropriate cover nearby and preparing in his mind some kind of defense against a flying attacker. "We don't wish to be caught in the open if it comes upon us," he remarks to the others. "But I don't wish these other folk to suffer while we flee to safety, either. Perhaps we can slow it down while both groups beat a measured retreat to cover. Suggestions?"

The Princess
She does her best to spot the shadow Wake describes and see if she can make out some details.
"And the obvious downside of an exposed area is quickly seen. I keep forgetting that people aren't the biggest threat on this island. Not at all civilized."
She considers the situation. "A noble idea, Sir Narramore, but we may not be able to implement it anytime soon. The only thing we may be able to do is to continue onward, reaching them before any attack. Or to assist in the aftermath." Is the Princess able to see the flying carpet group?
"Standard practice is to spread out more than twenty feet from each other and attack with range. Preferably behind cover." She too instinctively looks for rock or tree cover.

I will get some options posted to answer your question, but more importantly…. We all wish you the very best outcome from this situation, my friend! If you do find that you need some time away, please take all you need.Paladin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 5:22 pm Is there any sort of cover that could be reached in the near future? Forgive my lack of clarity regarding the terrain. You've done a great job explaining in other posts I can't seem to find, I've just been snatching sleep in a hospital room with a wife who ruptured her uterus and a baby who went without oxygen for several minutes afterward as he entered the world. We're all on pins and needles waiting to see if he'll get through this without lasting damage. I want to keep posting as I'm able, as it helps keep my mind off things, but my head is a wreck and I lose details. Apologies.

Luther
Luther looks annoyed at the whole situation. I was hoping we'd find some usable land up here- looks like we're out of luck on that. Less bugs is good- but not enough with no farm land and no shelter. I'm thinking I may go back down to Clifftown after we find out who these folks are. He nods toward the approaching travellers.

The Long Black CLiffs
Mid Afternoon
The party of four watches as the oncoming group continues running towards them frantically. Luther and The Princess look around the area, seeing a line of scrub trees that separates the rocky cliffs at the edge of the sea from the marshlands to the north. They are happy to see that the figure in the sky pointed out by Wake doesn't appear to be coming any closer.
Narramore searches the area for cover, finding a few larger rocks and scraggly trees here and there that could be used to hide behind, but very little in the realm of actual tactical battle cover. He is also pleased to hear that the monster in the sky isn't coming any closer, but as they debate what to do next, a second figure is spotted flying just above the surface of the marsh, heading straight for the oncoming group, who are still about half a mile away.
Actions?
Both the other group and the monster are still well out of weapon range.

I am about to create a new thread for the other half of this group who already headed back to town.

I think I need to make a quick DM cat wrangle here. Please don't get angered by my sudden intrusion, I just feel a strong need to consolidate some unnecessary wheel spinning.
The Long Black Cliffs
Mid Afternoon
Keeping a close eye on the dark figure over the marsh, the group continues moving east. They watch the monster still flying around, edging ever closer to them, but it never gets close enough for an outright attack.
The group spots the oncoming party moving even faster towards them, and then finally see the reason why. The second black flying monster seems to be right on their tails as they approach, screeching at them horribly but not going on the attack yet.
Looking around at each other, and listening to the screams of "RUN!" coming from the other group, the gang turns to flee themselves, heading back towards the new settlement. By the time both groups have made it back to the top of the hags cave, the flying beasts are no longer anywhere to be seen.

Re: Founding Clifftown
Anyone arriving at the new settlement at the end of the beach sees that the progress is still very much in the embryonic stage, with the only permanent structure being the now empty hags cave.
There are several small buildings started, and enough shelter to house everyone here temporarily, but there is MUCH work to do here before anyone can comfortably call it a "town". Marge is there, as is Liam, barking out orders and creating new blisters. so anyone looking for work will be welcome.
Since I know there are a few new players, and a couple who haven't been here before, please ask if you have any questions and we will detail this out together.
If anyone wants to go on a mission instead of doing any boring town stuff, and cant think of anything they want to do, there is already one ready to depart.
