Grimm
Grimm finally sits up, his hair, beard and clothes dripping with the salty water. He sees the mage at the other side, not vomiting like a garden hose. "Unbelievable."

Wes raises his eyebrows, unsure if he's more impressed by the the fact that neither man had fallen in, or that neither of them were violently puking.

The Stinking Hag Cave
Around Noonish
Grimm appears slightly embarrassed that the humans don’t succumb to the stench in the same fashion as he did. Must have something to do with specific dwarven sensitivities.
Luther and Chauncey stare into the horrifying room of rotting death, and the rangers sensibilities seem to be accurate in this case. The black tentacled monster appears to have died while still locked in its underwater cage. The natural bloating and rotting, exaggerated by the continuous motion of the rising tides, has shoved a good portion of the bloated mass through the cage bars and any portion of the hot mess exposed to the atmosphere is rapidly rotting in the heat of the cave.
Other than the stinky cloud of grey poison and thousands of tiny gnats surrounding the mass of pulsating flesh, there doesn’t appear to be any other dangers to contend with inside this final chamber.
Actions?
Liam
The Princess (-1 first)
Luther
Wake
Sir Narramore
Wes (-1 1st)
Chauncey
Grimm -2 dam

Luther
Luther does a quick search of the final chamber. He's NOT poking through the mess for valuables. If he finds anything, he'll take it back to the group.
Sorry, folks- I'm gonna stink for a little while. I'm not sure this cave is worth the effort it would take to make it usable.
If there's no major developments, Luther will leave the cave and go bathe in the ocean.

Wes
"Agreed," says Wes. "With a pile of rock, and The Shalm's magic, I could probably seal this tunnel. Just like the doorway into the obilisk. But we don't have a pile of rock."
"And besides, with the seaweed bed and the open holes to the sea in the other parts, the whole place has problems. Perhaps in the future, but not now."
Wes looks up at the Princess as she peers down on them. "What about up there Princess? Perhaps we could explore along the clifftops while the day lasts. Make sure there are no immediate threats to the townsfolk below."

"I'll have to take a bath and get clean to at the beach. Maybe a camomile tea afterwards for my unsettled stomach. Or a soup. Not seaweed, please." He snorts.
"Then I'll gladly join you folks with the cliff exploring."

Wake
Wake unties the rope and puts it away and asks the leaping adventurers, "Would you like the torch to either see better or see if the remains are flammable?"

How large is the dead creature? And is it possible to extrapolate from what's visible how much might still be hidden?

The Princess
"It looks great up here. You should come up." She calls back to Wes.
"Do you think that thing is part of the Kraken? Which may mean that the beach is clear."
If people are climbing up, she'll assist in that process.

Re: Founding Clifftown
The bloated mass covers most of the floor of the chamber, about three feet high. The cage lid in the floor is completely covered, so you can’t see from above how much of the dead beast remains in the water.ChubbyPixie wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 9:22 pm How large is the dead creature? Wes
"It could be", Wes says, a hint of doubt in his voice. "But it was here when I was here before, so that would mean it got out, then got back in again. If it was dying, why come back here?"
"I think it's more likely that it's some kind of monstrosity that the hag kept as a pet. Once the hag died, it died of starvation".
"Do you have a rope? I remember I almost fell in standing on that rock. Anybody else coming? What about Sir Narramore? If he won't come in, we can drop a rope over the cliff for him and he can pull himself up the hard way".
"You know the old saying: Pride cometh before the haul".

Not a bad idea, Wake- but this would be like trying to set fire to a pudding. If we decide to use this cave, we'll need some strong stomachs to rake the mess into the pit here.

Grimm
"Maybe the monster was killed by some other adventurers? There's other people wandering the island and helping the town besides us...
Just give a couple seconds and I will try to go up through the hole too." Grimm will make an effort to stand up back again. He washes himself in the salty water. At least it's a good way to take off the odour of vomit and the stains from his beard, probably. He hopes that the heat on this tropical island will help drying up his clothes and hair before he catches a cold. Maybe up there's even windy.

Re: Founding Clifftown
Liam looks at Chauncey. Don't wizards have spells to make thing explode into flames? Or maybe you can shrink it so that it is just a little corpse and not a giant one so we can just toss it out? I'm not criticizing, just asking. I am afraid most of my so-called knowledge of magic and those that cast it is limited to campfire tales.
Looking to the others. I agree that until the corpse, much less the other problems we have found here are dealt with, this cavern is just not going to meet our needs. We might be better off taking down the tarp at the entrance just to let this place breath a little more and let the stink out.
This brings us to the next question of immediate need... What do we do for shelter tonight? This place was my one consideration for that, but now we have a lot of people that will be very exposed soon when the sun goes down. We all know what the bugs can do to a man at night. Suggestions?
The best I have is to get everyone, and I mean everyone making pup tents and lean-tos for the night out of brush and vegetation. If everyone gets to work now and works hard through the day, I think we might be able to make enough smaller-sized shelters for everyone to just get through the night, it will take some coordination though.

"Good man, Wake!" Wes winks at the priest. "It's good to know someone is paying attention to me".
"Go ahead and toss it up there to the Princess. Princess! If you could belay the rope, we'll toss a coin to decide which of us is smallest and gets to go up first".

Wake
Wake holds on to one end, does two dry tosses and then says, "This next one is real." as he attempts to toss the coiled bunch up to the Princess and falls well short.
He once again rolls up the rope, does two more dry tosses and attempts again. This time he holds on to more of the rope than he should and it falls well short once again. "I got this", he says more for himself than anyone else and they it tries it for a third time and make a near perfect throw. "I knew I could do it."
[_3d6]=(6+6+3)=15 (Easy DEX Roll=12)
[_3d6]=(3+6+5)=14 (Easy DEX Roll=12)
[_3d6]=(1+1+2)=4 (Easy DEX Roll=12)

She grabs the rope, eventually, and secures it with the first one.
"That makes sense, Wes. I was just wondering how connected all those pools and tunnels were. You said something about the hag moving around using them. Anyways, up you go!"
