Rangers in danger:
Re: Rangers in danger:
Vann Hector
So I want to try and avoid as many encounters as we can, obviously not avoiding the lost poachers-turned-rangers. Three weeks missing and the changeable weather is going to make any kind of tracking impossible. I think the only plan is to scour their likely hunting sites, camps and look for any signals they may have left behind or stumble on dead bodies.
The elf muses on options and brings up the rear of the group, sword out ready for ambush. As he goes he will chat with the two characters, telling them about the incident with Greygoose in the chapel. It seems he was killed by a ghoul and came back to life as an undead a few hours later.
I did take the dead man's cloak and belt pouches and pick his pockets. Sorry forgot to ask about what I found. pm me details

Re: Rangers in danger:
Rondahl the Grim
Rondahl listens to Vann's tale of the ghoul and shudders. "I hope the Masters of the gladiator pits never hear of something like this. They would have traded all of us for fighters that came back from the dead to fight again."

Re: Rangers in danger:
Dalin explains his black eye "Well mind you I didn't pick a fight, I was in the Pheasant back in town, was challenged to prove my skills by the landlady there and apparently other patrons mistook it for something other than it was, a fight broke out and well I kinda ended it. Proved myself in a different manner than I intended. But if we need fleet of foot I might be able to oblige that. It's eh one of my skillsets. You might say."

Re: Rangers in danger:
April 29th 1066
Barrowmoor, south-east of Helix. Duchy of Aerik.
11.28am: Sunshine. Light breeze.
The quartet continue southwards by the light of the torch and the rays of sunlight which penetrate the thick fog which hovers over the swampy moor. Dawg Dann admits to being weakened by the critter bugs poison but will carry on. Rondahl lightens his load sharing the burden of carrying the torches.
They speculate on the viability of undead gladiators. Could they ever be trained? Would they need feeding? Do they only rise from the dead once or many times? The lore on undead is foreign to you and probably debated endlessly by the acolytes in theology colleges. Vann Hector has the closest experience than any of you, walking in a dead man's cloak.
Several times you catch glimpses of the inhabitants of this strange place, wading birds searching for mud eels and toads, horned buffalo munching ruminating on mouthfuls of moor cud. A deer path on harder soil winds it way through the thickets of tangled grasses, past a copse of crooked weeping willow trees and thorny black alder. A flock of carrion crows, startled by sudden movement fly away "kaw-cawing". It is enough to just alert you to a surprise ambush.
Emerging from the undergrowth are several small toad like humanoids. Half wear skin or feathered loin cloths and belts over their torso. Little fat bodies support wide mouthed, overlarge heads with bulbous eyes. Long legs give them an extra springboard to leap high above your heads and as they do, the leading trio cast nets to entangle you.
The other half, dressed in ad-hoc leathers bash war spears onto shell shields to rouse themselves to battle.
initiative and actions please.

Re: Rangers in danger:
Rondahl the Grim
Taking advantage of the other three frogs' need to 'get in the mood', Rondahl immediately uses his short sword to slice open the net. If the net is dry, he will also use the torch in his other hand to burn a hole in it.
Do I need rolls for this?

Barrowmoor, south-east of Helix. Duchy of Aerik.
11.28am: Sunshine. Light breeze.
The quartet are beset by some bullywugs, who ribbet and croak loudly to their tribal deities and ambush them. Three jump casting nets and jabbing spears in well practised leaps but the set longspear of Dawg Dann impales one as it lands, the spear cleaving through its torso and he slides down the shaft, his bug eyes goggling with surprise.
One does net a big fish in Rondahl but his arena training helps him slip the net and he spars with his retiarius opponent. Vann Hector and Dalin fend of the third, the dwarf hacking the fingers of one.
The trap to entangle them unsuccessful, the wugs' begin an amphibious assault. The three spear wielders leap into the fray as three more emerge behind them.
next actions. First person to post produces the group initiative using a d6.

Barrowmoor, south-east of Helix. Duchy of Aerik.
11.30am: Sunshine. Light breeze.
The froglings carry on with the attempt to capture or kill the adventurers. Reacting quicker they stab out and both Dawg Dann -6hp and Rondahl -5hp suffers wounds. It looks grim for the scout as he wanes, his strength sapping with his blood loss.
Still he has enough to jab back, wounding his adversary. The gladiator, glad of his gladius taunts the creature before him and hacks him down.
Dalin and Vann Hector combine to slay a third.
Your group bloodied but standing, the bullywugs massing for a third assault despite three of their number being slain.
Initiative and attack actions please.

Barrowmoor, south-east of Helix. Duchy of Aerik.
11.30am: Sunshine. Light breeze.
The bullywugs seize initiative and continue to prod primitive spears at the quartet, this time one impaled the dwarf and Dalin takes a severe wound -5hp. Their other attacks missing and fighting for their lives, the group defend themselves. Dawg Dann bringing down a fourth aggressor.
once more, initiative and attack actions please.
