Re: First patrol:
Diego
"I'll go, cover me!" Diego said. He was point, and it would get him closer to seeing what's on the other side. However, being shot at while crossing a rickey bridge was beyond his expertise.

Re: First patrol:
Despite no bullets aimed at him, Diego is hit by a barrage of cussing from those behind as he runs across the bridge only to stumble, missing a step and putting a foot between two planks. He halts his progress and of those behind him momentarily.
Re: First patrol:
Ezekiel Washington LeRoy
Ezekiel uses grenade launcher vs 80% [1d100]=4 damage [1d100]=2
Pops in the smoke grenade and fires it the other side of the rope bridge to land billowing white smoke hopefully drifting across the bridge to mask our attempts to cross.
He will give time for others to cross by firing his remaining 'smokies' into the ravine or trail behind us, whichever gives us most cover.

Re: First patrol:
Rex's blood pressure is way up. He is seeing red and hard to get down for patching but he does as told and nods the moment he is bandaged up. Thanks, James... Let's kill some Charlie now... he grunts through gnashed teeth as he gets up and brings his rifle up looking for where he saw the NVC earlier in case there is any more moving around.
Alert:
Awareness v 65 [1d100]=85
But it looks like he is a little too lost between pain and adrenaline to really notice much around him right now.
Agility:
Agility v 66 [1d100]=51
Agility v 66 [1d100]=15
He dashes to the bridge to take his turn and looks up to the front. What's the holdup?! We're in a turkey shoot on this thing and we're the turkeys!!!

Glyndwr waits until everyone else has moved, keeping his covering position. As soon as the last person starts onto the bridge he hefts the Pig and jogs on behind with the Corporal. Having seen the others cross he knows where to step and when to leap.

Re: First patrol:
Kelly "Waves" English
After dropping another VC, English quickly gathers his rifle and gear, hurrying to the bridge before the enemy have time to recover. Scurrying across the bridge, he stays low, presenting the smallest target through the smoke that he possibly can without sacrificing speed and agility.

Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. Re: First patrol:
July 10th 1968.
7.20am. Weather dry, hazy and clear skies. Visibility limited to 25 metres in dense jungle. Clear view across rope bridge, obstructed view beyond. Dense jungle fringe on ravine sides. Clear view of waters and boulders in stream for 200 metres
The squad blitz the rope bridge (not quite in the manner I anticipated), everyone proving basic infantry assault coursework more than matching any challenge the 'Boonies' throw up.
A thick smog of smoke screens the charge, everyone passing Diego on the way as he tangled a foot inbetween a plank. You all make it to the other side and Ezekiel pops a couple more grenades down the ravine to dissuade any more VC from using the stream bed.
No VC await in ambush on this side of the trail and wary of bring followed, eyes to the rear watchfully, you are able to navigate westwards on the barrow foot trail as it meanders slowly down around the hill contours before opening out into the 575 road from Kontum City to Kon Bobanh.
Stopping briefly to assess squad conditions, you 'take 10',. The injured are looked at. The most serious is Rexlin who has taken two rounds but remarkably, what might have killed lesser men, is just a deep furrow in his side. The wound still needs attention but as walking wounded your 'rest easy' in the field hospital has to wait.
Corporal Rayburn reiterated the initial mission. Seek and destroy mine laying sappers who are planting devices along the road and any 'forward obs' hidden on hilltops that lie in wait to potshot the Huey's with rpg's. He pulls out the map, triangulating your position and makes a suggestion.
"We keep to the road and check the route all the way north. Five miles of observations in the open but we make the village by mid afternoon. Stop and search as we go and maintain radio contact."
"Everyone say 'aye'. Are we clear? Any questions?"
After a radio check to Firebase, the team proceed.
Put yourself in chosen 'marching order' positions and swap around any MOS skills so someone else goes point, pigmen, RTO if you can.
Also share our some weight as injured folk carry less and move slower.
next actions and comments please

Re: First patrol:

Happy to be out the jungle and from what I understand, we were not followed though that does not mean the VC didn't track us at a distance.
Getting to a safe village or back to the Firebase would be a good idea. Ever the malignant, more foot patrolling is not his thing. He takes his place probably still at the 2nd rear position.
I don't think we have another grenadier specialist do I will keep the launcher. I used all my bandolier of grenades but I think from page 1, Rexlin took another for me so I will relieve him of that weight.

Getting back to his feet after a short rest, Kelly gingerly tests his injured shoulder. While sore as hell, the wound doesn't feel likely to reopen and start bleeding again. Readying his M-16, he'll fall in toward the front. Let's knock this out and get to the village. The sooner the better.

Re: First patrol:
Rex does what he can to keep up with the others, refusing to admit he is hurting much less unable to keep up, though he does slowly, a few steps at a time, fall into the middle of the line, and eventually begins to drag into the back. He occasionally coughs and spits, and when he thinks no one is looking he holds pressure on his bandages where it bothers him. As they walk he swaps out his mostly spent magazine for a fresh one, making sure there is one in the chamber before he does. He is unusually quiet, but he does light a stubby cigar. %$#@! sucks....

Marco "Someone's watching over you Rex, that or you are one lucky son of a gun to still be standing after taking all those hits." he comments trying to make Rex feel a little better. "I agree Kelly lets get this taken care of so we can get to the village."

The big cajun is still not talking since he is mostly concentrating on his cigar and keeping up with everyone. Still, he reaches under his flak jacket and pulls something out. It is a small blue Free Mason's bible that now has blood splattered on its edges.

Glyndwr collects the extra belt for the M60 that Rex and Kelly had been carrying. I need to replenish, and you guys are carrying extra lead as it is.
He trudges along stoically at the front of the column, ready to drop and give cover at the point-man's signal. He doesn't comment on where the patrol is headed, or what it might do, that's the corporal's decision. He just intends to keep his head down and get through it.

Re: First patrol:
July 10th 1968.
575 Road to Kon Bobanh, north of Kontum.
11.30am. Weather dry, hazy and clear skies. Humidity high.
Judging that the injured are 'walking wounded' and evacuation out not needed, Corporal Rayburn leads the team in mine sweeping and frisking the locals that you come across. All are potential suspects no matter how sweet, elderly or passive they look.
A couple of peasant farmers working a yoke of oxen, a wagon of crabapples and rootstock going to market, a teenager and girl on a vespa.
Nothing is found to give you cause for concern, the front and rear point men giving their attentions to scan the trees. The first half a kilometre of jungle on your right is less dense, the brushwood of bracken and shrubbery or copses of thinner trunks. The alert might identify some of the trees as varieties of Olive.
About two hours into your slow paced examination, an area of partially dug up ground is spotted. It looks well travelled through judging by wheel and foot prints but that just might mean the weight is not enough to detonate hidden devices.
The partially gravelled road would be described as a 'fair weather' road of hard earth and loose stones rolled over. This particular section has several divots and debris of larger stones cast into the roadside ditch for about a 30 metre section.
actions and any skill checks you use please.
