However, a regular foam extinguisher applied directly to a helmet or face might be effective as a distraction... anyone have hairspray or canned shaving cream? Insect spray... spray disinfectant... WD40... spray paint??? Boiling oil? Dead bodies infected with the plague?

Ok, back now.

The MgT2 rules are available in the latest Bundle of Holding offer at a reasonable price, if any players here don't have a copy of their own: https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Mo ... MongTrav2E

I believe that Pranit has 2 unused 20 rd clips for his auto shotgun and a large breaching charge strapped to his leg strap.

Thermite grenade nicked from the attackers rather than breaching charge!

To be clear, which deck are the intruders trying to open with the kit?

The Captain said:
In short, yes :D We have to do something to get away from the assault force. The ship is being trashed again, anyway, so any further damage really doesn't matter.
Thanks boss, I take that as tacit permission to thermite the bad guys....

I don't feel decisions made in this game represent good teamwork and collaboration, particularly when the security of the ship is threatened.

This new idea that 'it doesn't matter' what damage is caused to fly the ship away is beyond my comprehension. I am struggling with what is expected of my character. At character generation it was I owned 1/4 of the ship yet I feel that is irrelevant.

Sorry. I don't want folk to think it is personal criticisms of any play styles, I am just saying I personally struggle finding what role my character should be playing. Present stuck in s deck I can neither go up it down hoping pirates enter the lift and I shoot them before they shoot me. But why would they come. Why not engine room or bridge first?

Maybe I just struggle with the scenario bring a bit bizarre. Suddenly in this hi-tech world one hacker completely hijacks the Queen computor, ' baliffs are authorised to enter upon demand, people are shooting automatic weapons and grenades and no bay/sparks/ naval security are any the wiser. Assault teams are what ... blasting their way in the kill Nalani and Reven or Noor or to hijack the ship or to blow it up.

Sorry guys, hot days, Guinness and redundancy don't mix well.

Well, it's pretty much a goat rope. But, all we can do it work the problem until we run out of bad guys. Personally, I can do without a close encounter, but I suspect we will get one sooner or later.

Hang in there.

Oh, and by the way, the Queen's hull is somewhere north of a centimeter and a quarter of crystaliron.

That doesn't sound like a lot - until you consider that it's the equivalent of 5cm of hard steel. That's two INCHES of armor plate quality material ---- all over the hull. That is the minimum specification for a ship that can pull 1g accel.

While the modules may creak and groan when the ship shoves the bay doors fully open, there's no way in hell that the station's material will damage the Queen's hull on it's way out through the doors. And, at a quarter gee of accel, I guarantee it'll make it through the doors, not to mention totally blasting anything loose in the docking slip.

The sensors arrays won't like it much, but we can deal with that. Starships in Traveller are a helluva lot tougher than most people think they are.

While the sentiment is about right, the hull is slightly more delicate than described as the structure is built using the cheap-hull option. It's still tough though. (n.b. 0 Starship armour is 10 in personal scale stuff - in MgT2 - It would have been 50 in MgT1!)

The ship masses about 2700 tons and the doors mass about 50tons each. Flat on that's not too much of an issue (unless you are in the middle). Corner on, that's quite punchy. So don't hit the corners!

Also the bending moment on the backbone of the ship is a function of the distance from the lift shaft at which you hit. It is much worse in some orientations than others.

Finally, exterior structures (and paintwork) don't concern themselves with getting through the armour...Someone's going to be going outside later with a spray-gun!

I'm picturing clamshell doors that open outward, so all the ship is doing is shoving them open. The actuators are going to get spindled and mutilated, but the doors should push open. The blast from the drives will make a mess, too, I'm afraid.

What's the reference for hull materials? I'll see if I can make a comparison against TNE.

I've been assuming Flat Wheeled sliding covers rather than hinged clamshell, but the same basic theory

Hull material ref is page 13 of High Guard (MgT2 version)

For those with Pilot/Engineer knowledge...
  • Start Engines & take the strain Vs Gravity (Tick)
  • Disconnect from docking cradle and wait for it to clear the hull (Next)
  • Rotate to minimise damage as you go through the door
  • Power up, up and away
(Thereafter, the rear facing cameras will allow a good view of doors, etc falling into a hot hole in the ground)

Clearly, several of these steps could be rushed if you don't mind breaking things.

n.b. All personnel are recommended to be inside, strapped in (and to have returned the stewards to the upright position) before the "Up, Up and Away" step.

And for the more administrative/litigious...
This should see various arguments ensuing regarding damage to port property, lifting off without clearance, failing to file a flight plan, kidnapping port employees, etc. Depending upon where the doors land you could even get sued for littering!
Counter suits no doubt appearing for negligence, reckless endangerment of the ship/crew, property damage, personal injury, etc.
And that ignores the criminal law bit.

Years of fun!

Mongoose Traveller Version 2.

Not to be mistaken for any other similar acronym.

n.b. the covers are flat, not the wheels

There is bound to be something in that temporary certificate about the warranty being void if the ship is deliberately miss-used or taken by pirates.

The three key people I need actions from at the moment are...
Arnwulf: Out in the open on the hull of a moving ship being fired at while out of ammo
Nalani: Who needs to decide whether to leave the door open for him in the hope he'll come over or shut up and leave him outside
Reven: Who needs to decide whether squashing the air-raft or allowing the docking cradle to retract is the priority

With the attackers seemingly diverted to the Bridge, those on the Crew and Passenger decks have a temporary reprieve from being in the time critical narrative.
