IC VI
Re: IC VI
Saul kept silent so far, smithing isn't really his expertise so once he showed Innana the town he had nothing to say.
The mention of silver interested him but still, he has no idea how to work it, save for when he needs to work it out of someone's purse.
The need for it is a matter altogether different. That he understands.
"You need silver, that's the only issue? We can get you silver assuming the bank has enough of it for me to withdraw. How much do you need? I assume they mix in some baser metals so that should raise the costs a bit but I think it's worth it if we're to survive."

Lanny the elf
Lanny smiles in greeting to Myraal. He is quite relieved to see that the Guild Mage is sober.
"Indeed we have survived, Myraal! It was not easy... Anyway, Captain Quintas mentioned that you had a message for us. Was it in regards to the magic arrow?"
Lanny explains that the party is in town again and is preparing to venture north to the logging camps in search of the beast that has been terrorizing the loggers. He explains that the party will be in town for a week waiting on a order of potions and an order of silver weapons, in anticipation that the beast might possibly be a were-creature.
"We also bring some items that we would like you to analyze or research for us. We understand that there are standard fees for such services, of course..."
"We are also interested in touring the Guild Library while we are here, if there is time. Any information you wish to share about its spells, books, and other magical aids that might assist us in our efforts would be greatly appreciated."

Re: IC VI
Myraal the Stout
"Yes, yes. I had spent some time researching the history of the arrow, very interesting indeed. To understand it properly, one must realize that before the Thyatians came the Traladaran tribes were not united at all, under neither banner nor gods not even language, although most spoke variants of the same tongue. This arrow bears the signature fletching of the Vorloi clan, which used to live in the area. By all accounts they eschewed worship of Halav and the others, preferring to bow down to other, more obscure and, in my mind, indifferent deities."
"It seems that as the Thyatians began to push north they came into contact with the Vorloi, who after long consultations with elders and priests decided to neither fight nor assimilate, but instead fled to the north. And their story ends there, I am afraid, which is a real shame, because the tales mention a certain chalice in their possession, an artifact from older times and forgotten days. As a collector of Traladaran antiquities I would pay dearly for such an item!"
The adventurers are invited in. "I am afraid that access to the Guild library is for Guild members only; otherwise what would be the point of offering membership? I would be happy to identify the two sets of mail of which you speak. My fee would be 750 gold for the two, and I can accomplish this task in one week's time."
He examines the bundle of branches. "A fine gift indeed, my friends! These will make some fine arrows, potentially with puissant properties against certain evil creatures, those that are the bane of elves such as undead, or orcs. Alas, my talents lie in the examination and understanding of ancient artifacts, not in the construction of new ones. There is an elven bowyer who lives in the town of Riffilan to the south; he would be the one to speak to."

Re: IC VI
Myraal the Stout
The Guildmage whistles at being shown the potion. "A rare find indeed! Such a potion should fetch a few thousand gold coins, I would think! Who does not want to be younger and fitter! Alas, potions such as these can only be consumed once per lifetime, and I have already partaken of such a draught, otherwise I would shower you with boons in order to purchase it."
He shakes his head at both the heraldric symbol and the arcane drawing. "The hawk is a common bird used in coat-of-arms, and I do not recognize it off-hand. I can certainly look into it, if you would like. As to the drawing, I recognize it not, either, but can say it does not seem to bind the same magical energies that we mages use; certainly the design is both esoteric and cabalistic. I can look into this, as well. My fee for researching both will come to a mere 250 gold, as this is the kind of challenge I enjoy!"

Re: IC VI
Lanny the elf
Lanny thanks Myraal for all the information. He makes a mental note of the name Vorloi and accepts the magic arrow from Myraal (if indeed Myraal returns it to him). He asks if the guild mage has any idea where to the north the Vorloi relocated.
"Your skills at research are clearly unparalled, Myraal. I would gladly pay your fee of 250gp to research the coat-of-arms and arcane symbol, as well as the 750gp fee for the analysis of the armor."
Lanny asks if he can get the name of the bowyer in Rifflian. As he does this, he glances down at the two sets of elven chain mail armor.
"Tell me, Myraal, this armor appears to be elven made as well. Can it, too, be imbued with magical energies, just like these branches? Might there be someone in Rifflian who could do such a thing?"
Lanny leaves any further questions or decisions about the Potion of Longevity to Drudsa and Tratiln, the group's experts on the arcane.
When Myraal mentions about guild membership, Lanny at first remains quiet. Later on, he privately asks Myraal about the general requirements of joining the guild, and he specifically asks about the requirement that one must be sponsored. He wonders if Myraal could be a sponsor, or if it must be someone else...

"You mean imbue an already enchanted item with further magical energies? I don't see why not, but it is not a subject I have explored before. The bowyer's name is Aediel, of the Callarii elves, and he may be able to answer your questions in greater detail."
Myraal returns the arrow.

"Guildmaster, there is a warrioress in our group who is curious about potions of an unusual nature, particularly one that may bequeath the imbiber with luck. Does your order carry such potions?"
Re: IC VI
Lanny the elf
Lanny thanks Myraal for the recommendation of Aediel in Rifflian. He hands over the two sets of chain mail armor as well as the insignia and sketching for analysis and research.
"We'll be back in a week to collect the items and pay your fee. While we are waiting for our silvered weapons to be made, we were thinking we might explore the area around Castle Mistamere. We've heard rumors of increased humanoid activity in the area... but also rumors of ancient antiquities to be found therein. Might you have any sage advice for us before we march off to our certain doom?"
Lanny grins and laughs with the guild mage. When all party members have finished their business, Lanny turns to leave, and then turns back to Myraal and gives him the magic arrow.
"Here, Myraal, you have earned this. Thank you for your research on its history, perhaps we shall follow up on that information one day. I have two more of these arrows myself, should I ever meet a Vorloi in the future..."
Lanny will return to Threshold when the rest of the group is ready to return.

"Well, thank you very much, my friend, for your gift of the arrow." He looks dubiously towards Bregalad. "I've made a potion or two in my time, but am no expert, and the ones you describe are, quite frankly, more complex than any I have attempted. Perhaps you have heard of Bethany the Bold, who dwells south of town? She is a fair hand at the cauldron, and a fair looker as well."
He pauses to consider when asked about Gygar and Castle Mistamere. "We live in strange land, my friend. You may know that for the most part what we now know as Karameikos was populated in large part by the Traladaran people, and at the dawn of their culture, strange beast-men known as the Hutaakans. Yet their also existed, some two hundred years ago, apparently coterminous with the Traladarans -- notably the Vorloi just to the west -- a kingdom of men we would associate more with the tall, blond northerners than the shorter and darker Traladars or Thyatians. Some claim the men of the kingdom came from a world other than ours; whatever the truth, a man named Gygar was held to be their king, and he ruled from the castle just north of Threshold, on the banks of Lake Windrush. But the kingdom fell apart when Gygar died and the people intermarried with the Vorloi, or died or fled. The Traladars are superstitious, and troubled the castle little."

Drudsa the dabbler
"Thank you for your unvaluable guidance master Myraal. For myself I only have two more questions: first, could you provide us with a letter describing the effects of the potion of longevity, with your signature and seal? See, if we eventually decide to negotiate this wondrous brew it will be important to have more than just our word vouching for its properties."
"Last but not least, does the Guild happen to have any scrolls or other magical writings it would be willing to part with for a price? I know you prefer to retain the material and encourage folks like us to become members, but I was wondering if you might have come across some material that is already contained in your library."

"I could certainly do so, but unfortunately I was not the one who identified the potion. I would be uncomfortable putting my seal to something that I had no part in identifying." He pauses. "Not that I think you are lying, but perhaps the man who identified it earlier was? Or was wrong? Perhaps he had made a mistake?"
Myraal shake his head sadly. "We have no scrolls for sale, I am afraid. Magic like that is rare in these parts, and not something that most mages would part with easily having gone through the trouble to create one."

Re: IC VI
All their questions answered, the adventurers bid Myraal farewell and return to Threshold, re-uniting with their companions. Over dinner the conversation turns to their plan, and it is determined that while waiting for the silvered weapons to be forged it would be worthwhile to investigate the Castle Mistamere of which Bregalad had heard mention of.
Flaumont 3, AC 1000
The new morning is cloudy with a slight chill in the air. The old-timers breaking their fast at the inn can be heard grumbling about the variable Karameikan spring weather; many swear a storm is on it's way.

Tratiln, feeling accomplished at learning magic missile, makes sure that he memorizes it for the day. He will next attempt to learn charm person from the scroll he has in his possesion.

Lanny the elf
Lanny notifies the Innkeeper, Father Varis, and the Captain of the Town Guard that they will be journeying to Castle Mistamere while they are waiting for their silver weapons to be crafted, just in case they need to be reached on account of any new developments at the logging camp or on Fogor's Isle (or news about Elwyn). He speaks briefly with the Captain of the Town Guard.
"I see that the number of town guards has doubled since our return, due to the troubles on Fogor's Isle... I had previously donated 500gp for armor and weapon upgrades and bonuses for the men, but with double the guards you will likely require double that amount . Here is an additional 500gp. Remember, if the Baron requires the specialized skills of a small group like us upon the isle, please let us know."
Lanny turns to leave, then turns back around, smiling sheepishly.
"Oh yes. And I do believe we will need our weapons back from the Town Hall at this point."
Lanny will (with help from the group) collect the weapons and rejoin the party, prepare his horse, and be ready to leave.

"Innana, the task you requested of me has been completed. It was a pleasure to create this for you."
With that, he will hand the trinket over to the lady.
In a low voice he states "I could not help but be inspired by your hair, so I, uh, made it red?." Thordin....blushes?
