Barrowmaze: 1st ed D&D mega-dungeon
Barrowmaze: 1st ed D&D mega-dungeon
Following a comment in the 'what would you like to run' topic, I was asked to follow up on my consideration to run the aforementioned Barrowmaze.
So this is my recruiting bulletin to any prospective clerics, mages, warriors and rogues, to invite them to express their own interest in participating in a series of new and challenging explorations into 'tombs of horror', 'vaults of gold' and 'descents into madness'.
Face devilish traps, exotic encounters, build your reputation and notoriety or die in unlauded ignominy. Come back to life as a wandering undead. There will be plenty to get your teeth into.
.... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... ....
Rather than funnel players into a single linear adventure I would like to make it as 'open world' as possible so players may participate at their own pace (subject to being on an expedition). I was privileged to play in one of the Lab Lord Marches games which encouraged players to contribute to their environs via world building, establishing memorials and tributes.
So, sales pitch over. If you are interested then post here. Subject to sufficient interest, I would hope to begin by the end of the month.
Any questions please ask.

Re: Barrowmaze: 1st ed D&D mega-dungeon
By 1st ed D&D you mean something like OSRIC or Advanced LL, right?
Re: Barrowmaze: 1st ed D&D mega-dungeon
Yes. I plan on using these books which if you don't own, you may find available on such sites as Rpg.net.

I’d have to say yes to this.
Any chance of reviving old characters?

One does aim to please Stirling.Well if anything ever sells a campaign it must be this!

On first glance the random character generated looks a typical kitted adventurer though I would hold off from using that process. I will use a 4d6c1 randomly assigned method so hopefully players may still create a character that fits the class and race they prefer to play.

Do you have one in mind? Siggard?Any chance of reviving old characters?
My initial thoughts were to start as 1st level characters but to allocate xp at the same class advancement so that folk didn't feel left behind by others levelling up ahead of them. I would also encourage those characters of arcane or religious persuasions to think about how their character through piety, study, trial and error may create new spells or prayers. (I get a bit miffed that every cleric of every faith knows exactly the same spells. At least 5th ed had 'domain' separations).
The Bmz campaign seems pitched towards low through to mid level characters, (as players explore and advance in level so does the challenge they face), but I am not against the idea if I can make it work if your archived character was above 1st level. Let me think on that.

Spell research?
I was happily inclined to watch, but this might be irresistable ...

Re: Barrowmaze: 1st ed D&D mega-dungeon
To be fair, 2nd edition also had domains, I believe.

Re: Barrowmaze: 1st ed D&D mega-dungeon
The Barrowmaze has an in-game pantheon created so clerics will use those and I will adapt spells to fit the deity profile.

Urson - Have checked the sheet. No issues stand out. Will recommend reading my character creation and additional stuff to note any relevant changes.
I have formally requested a campaign forum so everyone lookout for updates.
