Start by having your character approach the camp and introduce himself, or retcon him into already being there if it makes sense he is in the company of one of the other PCs.

Re: OOC Discussion
My suggestion is you retcon and join the scene retroactively, that you are traveling with Ito Namguchi. If the two high ranking Samurai are associated together, it makes things simpler.
Re: OOC Discussion
Okay. Thanks.
Re: OOC Discussion
Yep, that does make sense.
BTW, the film "Akira Kurosawa's Dreams" also has some good old Japan stuff. It's like "Kwaidan," with different short stories. One of them is a variation of the Snow Woman folk tale in Kwaidan. And a great movie, no matter the theme, IMO. Especially the visuals. $1.99 to rent on Amazon Prime. Kurosawa's old 1950s black and white film "Rashomon" is also set in Heian Era Japan, and with samurai, a bandit, and peasants. It's considered a classic. If you've seen "Seven Samurai," "Yojimbo," or "Ran," you already know Kurosawa.

Re: OOC Discussion
A TL;DR about how to pronounce Japanese words and names, of all things. So Japanese words have a lot of syllables, so sounding out the word may help with remembering and spelling it later.
Syllables in Japanese are not accented. No syllable is more stressed or louder than any other. So katana is "kah-tah-nah," rather than "kah-TAH-nah." Another example is anime, which English speakers pronounce the same way as Japanese speaker.
A, as in Osaka - Always an "ah" sound.
I, as in ichigo ("strawberry") - A long e as in "me."
U, as in tsunami - A u sound as in "loose."
E, as in Edo - An e sound as in "red."
O, as in o-sake ("rice wine") - Like the o sound in "loan."
Ei, as in Eigo ("the English language") - Like the a in "say."
Ai, as in aiguchi - Like the i in "high."
Ky, as in Kyoto- Pronounced like the ky sound in "cute."
Ry, as in ryu ("dragon") - Pronounced as a blend of a soft r and a y, rather than as two syllables. Ryu sounds almost like "dyoo, rather than "ri oo."
Ts, as in tsunami - A blend of t and s.
Sometimes vowels are held twice as long (the length of two full syllables).
Ii, as in torii (the vermilion gate outside a Shinto shrine) - A longer long e, as in "key" (compared to the short e in "me").
Uu, as in kyuuri ("cucumber")
Oh (or an o with a dash over it, which I can't find out how to type on US forums), as in ohkami ("wolf").
(You can see that I have quite a bit of extra time at work today).

FYI, we're not into the Honor Bound module yet. We may or may not play it, depending on what the PCs do along the way.

Re: OOC Discussion
O-bakemono literally means "honorable monster person." Just bake is "monster." I asked someone in Japan why monsters get the honorific o- and mono. He said, "Because people are afraid of them, they don't want to be rude."

Re: OOC Discussion
Good. Marullus, if you've got a definitive sheet, would you mind linking it? We should be all be working with the latest and best version. For posterity!
Who knows when somebody else might need a Bushido sheet? I hope many do.

This is the one I have for Kentaro:

And Omi:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m0-aWV ... p=drivesdk
And Taisho:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wkeX_6 ... p=drivesdk
But I think they took them and modified them further. At the least they all are standard with level integrated into BCS and with a toggle option for the effects of encumbrance.

Re: OOC Discussion
A blessing might be good - you could roll a 1 on turns, after all.
You can get to touch range behind Ito and then Heal him. He just took 8hp of damage, so can use it.
If he drops, perhaps you can parry to defend him until we arrive.
Re: OOC Discussion
Healing is one minute to take effect. I don't see much for Shinto magic to do in this situation...
Re: OOC Discussion
I understand taking an action-by-action approach as we start out and troubleshoot... for the long-term, though, are we okay posting a round at a time asynchronously to speed up the play-by-post process, with the GM sorting initiative order? (At a day per action phase, I expect we'll get to my Round 9 arrival sometime in July.
)

Re: OOC Discussion
That sounds like a good plan. I have an Excel sheet to track PC's and NPC's Action Phases and their actions. So sorting out the sequence of events will be easy. If something changes along the way (e.g. a PC rolled to hit an NPC, but it was killed in a previous phase), the player could revise their action.

Re: OOC Discussion
I'm thinking of starting a Wild West game. Anyone know anything about these RPGs? I used to play Boot Hill 1st Ed., and it was great. But after what WotC did with D&D, I'm not sure. (I last played D&D 2E, and 5E is... kind of cartoony(?) in comparison? PCs are so powerful, they're kind of superheroes. Which isn't bad, 5E's a lot of fun I think. But I'm thinking of running a more historical Wild West game. More "Unforgiven" and "Lonesome Dove" than "Gunfight at the OK Corral" or "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." (That kind of campaign could be great too!))
I suppose I'm looking for something pretty OSR, but not as crunchy as Bushido. One extra-crunchy game at a time.
Edit: Gunslingers uses the Action! game system. This my first time hearing of it.

Gunslingers: Wild West Action! https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/17 ... est-Action[/img]

Re: OOC Discussion
I fiddled with Boot Hill 1st edition (well, not quite - the yellow boxed set) but don't really have much on the system. It doesn't have much weight beyond the combat rules if I recall. I do have it...jemmus wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 11:02 pm I'm thinking of starting a Wild West game. Anyone know anything about these RPGs? I used to play Boot Hill 1st Ed., and it was great. I used to have a collection of Western games, including at least one other edition of Boot Hill, but other than Avalon Hill's Gunslinger (which wasn't exactly an RPG) I have little experience with them. I also had FGU's Wild West for sure. I'm not sure I'd be up for it, but let's see what your pitch is...
Re: OOC Discussion
BTW, since we have a pretty friendly group here... After failing to gain interest in a live play of the system I REALLY want to run, I'm launching an effort to start a 2nd RuneQuest 1st ed. (1978) Roill20 campaign, but instead if setting it in Glorantha, I will be using Gamelords Haven/Thieves Guild to run a thief campaign. If you're interested (and can deal with later evening Pacific Timezone play) check out https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/2917 ... eves-guild
