Why don't you go this way? Is it dangerous? Have you been told not to go there? The bugbear will attempt to grab the goblin and prevent him from going down the hall until he gets answers to his questions.

Mirrors
"If goblins don't go that way, what way do they go?" Nella asks quickly once the goblin makes its actions apparent. Before rounding the corner into the mirrored hallway, but without pausing in its progress, the creature points a clawed finger down the southern hall in response.

Following very closely behind the goblin, Unari positions herself at the entry to mirrored hallway, bow at the ready.

Undeterred in its intentions, the goblin simply shrugs at Lika's query, likely not familiar with what actually does traverse this mirrored hall.

Before Xanlanan can make his requests, and before Gruuthuk is able to physically restrain the creature to prevent its progress, the goblin passes past the first set of opposing mirrors... and, as it does so, a pair of shadowy constructs -- dark exaggerations of the goblin's shadow -- manifest in the hallway between the goblin itself and the rest of the party.

An eerie, spectral screeching sound is heard as the pair of shadowy-goblins make their hostile intentions known!

Nella finishes moving forward next to Xanlanan, guarding him from the hallway and keeping an eye on the goblin.

"...indeed," she states in a droll tone, her sword coming free of the scabbard in one smooth motion as the shadows appear. She steps forward, remaining catecorner from the mirror's view, and brings the blade edge down upon it to shatter the glass, rather than attacking the shadow goblin itself.
If the first mirror shatters, she takes a step and hits the opposite mirror with the second attack.
Attack: Longsword [1d20+6]=17+6=23[1d8+3]=1+3=4 2nd [1d20+6]=2+6=8[1d8+3]=1+3=4

If the shadows haven't dissippated, she spins, passing a kick through one of them to test its corporeality.

Lika calls out while starting the movements needed to send those apparitions back to the other side. "Stop! Don't move any further!"

She finishes spiraling her arms and fires two orange bolts at the same shadow(red). He moves to the south of Xanlanan, trying to make room for others to engage.

Xanlanan tosses a half-hearted fire bolt at one of the goblin shadows - mostly because they party expects him to - but he's quite curious as to what is going to happen with these things!

Round 1
Freeing the sword from her scabbard in an effortless motion, Nella glides forward and streams between her companions, ending up just inside the mirrored hallway, where she's required to position herself in order to reach the inset mirrors with the length of her blades -- which she does, expertly, shattering the first mirror to her left first, then the mirror to her right. Shards of glass fall, filling the niches the mirrors are set into, with some loose pieces of glass spilling onto the floor of the hallways itself -- but the shadowy apparitions do not appear to be affected. If she's frustrated her cleverness wasn't successful, the disciplined monk doesn't show it. Instead, in a controlled spin, she wheels around and plants the flat of her foot into the nearest shadowy form (blue), connecting.

After the monk sets the tone for the encounter, Unari steps forward and engages, slicing-and-dicing with his rapier, successfully striking with two of his efforts, including his important initial ambush attack!

"Stop! Don't move any further!" Lika calls out. As he finishes spiraling his arms, two orange bolts fire at the shadowy goblin directly in front of Unari -- her bolts of magical force energy prove to be highly effective against the strange creature as it vanishes in a wisp of inky smoke. He chirps (or bawks) proudly before retreating to the southern hallway, beyond Xanlanan, taking up guard position there.


Those with a visual into the hallway notice the goblin instructed to lead through this mirrored hall panics and flees! The creature can barely be seen at the far end of the hallway, just at the top of what appears to be a set of stairs leading down.

Sharing the same angle as Lika, Xanlanan tosses a firebolt at the same target... which disappears from sight just before his bolt would have made contact. Curiosity over these shadowy creatures still consumes the sorcerer who stares on intently.

Taking a step south to gain a better vantage point into the hallway, Gruuthuk takes aim at the remaining shadow goblin and strikes it with a well-placed arrow, but the damage does not prove to be lethal, even with his sneak attack damage.

The ghostly goblin extends its shadowy arms, reaching in Nella's direction, but is no match for the nimble and dextrous monk who easily avoids contact with the creature.

While weakened, and alone, the shadowy goblin shows no signs of fear and all indications suggest its relentless hunger for inflicting pain rages deep.

Xanlanan gives a little cry at the shattering mirrors! "Cease that nonsense, young lady! These are special items worthy of study! Ack!" He rolls his eyes and looks to the heavens and pleads against such impetuous action!

He thinks he notices a pattern and reluctantly moves back to regain sight of the shadow. She raises her hands and once again spirals them to perform the arcane contortions required for the orange bolts. "Excuse me, Xanlanan."

Round 2
"...the goblin!" Nella tells the others with urgency as she lashes out at the shadow goblin with her longsword, missing badly and leaving herself open to a counter-attack... which proves to be extremely costly mistake! The monk feels intense necrotic pain (-17) quickly spread throughout her body as the formidable opponent takes full advantage of the opportunity. Worse, she feels extremely weakened by the painful touch (-4 to STR) and suddenly, everything feels it takes on extra weight.

Her weapons.
Her backpack.
Her bedroll.
Her different tools.
All her possessions.

They all now begin to feel overly encumbering.

Witnessing the pained reaction demonstrated by Nella gives Unari pause, but the ranger presses forward with a combination of attacks, knowing this shadowy creature must be dealt with quickly, before more significant harm can be done. Slashing out with her rapier, she nicks the foe and elicits a pained screech in response!

The familiar orange bolts from Lika streak through the air from behind the front ranks, striking the shadowy goblin, dropping it once and for all.

Xanlanan looks giddy at the encoutner. "Did you see that?! That mirror seemed to create a shadowy simulacrum of that goblin! I wonder what would happen if one of us stood in front of a mirror? I wonder if each mirror allows only one copy to be created? Perhaps each copy is someone magnified or diminished each glance? Do each of these mirrors do something different? Do each..." and he trails off and continues to ask questions seeming to himself and sometimes to the group - but mostly himself.
