Quest #32 "Visiting With The Neighbors"

Dexter Broadleaf

Seeing Sir William make his play, and knowing that there is little else to be done, Dexter makes a lunge for the lizard in front of him with the Princess on it. As he does, he pulls out his short sword and goes for the saddle cinch belt underneath.

Not sure what kind of modifiers are needed, but here we go!

Attack with Short Sword [1d20] = 18
Damage from Short Sword Small or Medium [1d6] = 6

Seeing Daisy has had the same idea, Dexter says, "Huh, fancy meeting you here!"

Jaxsen Reiter

Seeing that the fight is on, Jaxsen attacks the dwarf to their rear, the forward dwarf on the lizard with two dwarves, with his halberd. But his desire to avoid further hurting the mounts makes him overcompensate and his strike goes completely wild.

Liam

Sighs and shakes his head. He then whirls around on his heel and slashes with his rapier as he draws against the Stonegut driving the lizard directing behind him.

Early Afternoon, Overcast, Warm, Humid

The dwarves don't seem fooled by Liam's warning about invading kobolds, and they aren't exactly surprised by the groups sudden attack either.

Daisy directs Sophie towards the lead lizard, but the war badger has a hard time climbing up to her target on the moving mount, and only ends up frightening the lizard slightly from behind with her screeching. Dexter and Daisy meet under the belly of the second lizard, just below the sitting Princess. The thief slashes at the thick leather strap holding the saddle in place, cutting through it easily with one slice of his sharp blade. It instantly starts to slip off, giving Princess the time she needs to work her magic, literally. She quickly cuts the cord around the neck of the dwarf in front of her as he starts to slip from the unsecured saddle, his decretive horn falling to the ground in the process. The lizard lunges forward slightly, but the strong thighs and unmatched agility of the elf allow her to keep her place atop the moving beast, even with the driver falling to the ground along side. She immediately begins casting.

Narramore lunges at the driver of the lizard behind him, leaping up to attempt to drag the dwarf to the ground. Just able to escape the grasping hands of the paladin for a moment, the dwarf spurs the beast ahead, but is then immediately attacked by Liam, who cuts through the reigns in the dwarfs hands, leaving a bleeding gash in his arm as well. The trailing dwarf riding solo on his lizard spurs his animal forward, trying to run down the pair of halflings in front of him. The unexpected reaction causes Jaxsen's attack to be foiled, but at least the quick acting monk is able to avoid being trampled, causing the beast to veer away from the hobbits at the last moment.

Riding bareback and trying to use magic from the top of her mount, the now solo Princess sees her lizard having a hard time walking with the saddle dropped around to its underside. She tosses a pinch of sand towards the pair of mounted dwarves in front of her, causing poor Sophie and the lizards driver to suddenly fall fast asleep. The front pair of lizards who are no longer controlled, become very sluggish, while the rear pair continues moving forward, adding another uncomfortable unknown into the already confused battle. The fallen dwarf eventually gets to its feet and brandishes his large ax towards Dex and Daisy.

Even though they weren't shocked by the sudden attack, all 4 of the dwarves who attack from their mounts miss their marks. The rear dwarf on the rear lizard appears about to leap from the saddle cowboy style onto the struggling monk.

Liam

Trying to keep up the momentum of a much younger man, Liam slashes again on the recovery of the first. He remains wordless, saving his breath for now as he tries to finish off the first dwarf before moving to the next. The vim and vigor of youth having long ago fallen away to cold calculated logic and efficiency.

Daisy
Daisy scowls as she almost collides with Dexter. She runs for the lead lizard.
Wake up, you rug! she yelled at Sophie as she passed

The big bear of a man growls his frustration at the near miss and sidesteps, whipping his sword free of the sheath and stabbing up at the rear dwarf, hopefully before he makes his leap.

[1d20 + 3] = 15+3 = 18, [1d8 + 6] = 3+6 = 9

Seeing the Dwarf about to leap upon him, Jaxsen tries to catch him on the point of his halberd and let his own weight impale him, but the Monk's attack is not up to the task.

Dexter Broadleaf

Forced to choose between an axe-wielding maniac to his front or a lizard driver with his hands full of reins to his rear, Dexter attempts to jump aboard the lizard that missed he and Daisy and attack the driver.

OM, I know there is likely a DEX check in my future, as well as modifiers for attacking the driver, so I'll let you tell me that before I start rolling attacks.

Dexter turns and leaps onto the lizard's back. Then, relying on his skill, dexterity and the element of surprise, takes a stab at the Dwarf driving the enslaved creature.

Dexter - Hard check vs 18 DEX [4d6] = 14
Dexter - Attack with short sword at -4 penalty [1d20-4] = 13-4 = 9
Damage from Short Sword Small or Medium [1d6] = 3

Early Afternoon, Overcast, Warm, Humid

Chaos breaks out on the trampled jungle trail as the skirmish rages, neither side sure what fate has just dealt them.

The dwarves retaliate with sword and ax, defending and attacking as if their lives depended on it. The rear dwarf leaps from the lizard, trying to pin Jaxsen to the ground with the tip of his blade. The monk avoids the attack, but his counter is disturbed in the process. Liam is cut slightly by the blade of the driver, 3 dam before he and Narramore stab the mounted dwarf to death with a spray of hot crimson. With no further painful prodding, that lizard pushes forward lazily up the trail. The Stonegut who was knocked from his saddle gets to his feet and tries to chop off one of Narramore's legs, but the blade stops on the paladins heavy armor.

Daisy is hit from behind by the mounted dwarf she is trying to get away from, 5 dam just as Dexter leaps up onto the lizards back. Unfortunately, his blow doesn't pierce the riders defenses. That animal is also spurred forward, into the rear of the stationary lizard with the sleeping driver. That dwarf turns to face the halfling trying to kill him from behind, but he will have a hard time fighting someone while still sitting forward in his leather saddle.

The Princess leaps up to her feet as the beast she is on slowly meanders forward, it too currently without a driver. She plunks one of her daggers into the dwarf on the back of the lead lizard, injuring him slightly as Daisy arrives, her shouts doing nothing to rouse her furry war badger from its slumber.

The old man will scan about and charge the stonegut that Jaxsen is engaged with, lending his help.

Finally in his element and intent on dropping the rearmost Stonegut, the iron-clad warrior bares his teeth at the glancing blow from his enemy and puts all his muscle behind a return strike. His blood-spattered sword sings as he brings it crashing down.

[1d20 + 3] = 19+3 = 22, [1d8 + 6] = 2+6 = 8

Daisy
Daisy scrambles onto the back of the lizard with the sleeping driver and the injured rider. If she makes it, she'll concentrate on knocking the injured dwarf off the lizard.

(Daisy DEX 12) DEX roll [4d6] = 18 Drat!

Failing that, she'll try to hide under the lumbering beast.

Jaxsen Reiter

Seeing Liam coming up behind the dwarf he is fighting, Jaxsen determines to keep the enemy's attention by attacking. Unfortunately, distracting the Dwarf seems to be all his attack accomplishes.

Dexter Broadleaf

Dexter decides to use his enemy's awkward mounted position to his benefit, staying on the Dwarf's off-hand side as best he can while attacking him. But his preoccupation with the Dwarf's position takes its toll on his own accuracy and his stroke misses.

Sorry everyone! I was waiting for an action from the Princess, since I already NPC'd her last round, but.....I cant wait forever.

Stonegut Beat And Gut

Early Afternoon, Overcast, Warm, Humid

Liam rushes over to help Jaxsen, though neither man is able to injure the dwarf they are fighting. He takes another chop at the nimble monk with his ax, inflicting a wound that nearly severs his forearm. 6 dam Nearby, Narramore puts some hurt on his much shorter opponent, and once again his heavy armor protects him from a counter attack.

Dexter battles with the dwarf riding the lizard they are both on, neither able to injure the other in their awkward positions. The dwarf spurs the lizard again, who slowly ambles forward at the edge of the trail. Sadly, it tramples the sleeping war badger into the mud, nearly killing it, but also waking it up in the process. 4 dam

Daisy tries to leap up onto the back of the lead lizard, but that beast is also urged ahead about 20 feet by the dwarf who isn't sleeping, causing her to fall back off before she can attack. She sees the sleeping driver now being smacked by the rider, who slowly begins to awaken from his magically induced slumber. Princess notices that the lead dwarves appear about to make a break for it up the trial, so she also attempts to urge the lizard she is on to give chase, though the huge beasts seem apprehensive, and only move a short distance away from the others initially.

The Princess



The Princess curses in a most unladylike way as the dwarf rider starts to wake. After her initial attempt to prod the beast forward produces less than adequate results, she changes to the carrot.

She pulls a piece of hard ration out and stabs it onto the end of her sword. After scooting forwards on the lizard, she extends the tip and rations out in front of the lizard, trying to get it to chase the meat.

If she's able, she will try to chase down the other lizard and ram it.
