Inchin: Endgame
Re: Inchin: Endgame
Jakob replied on the O channel. "I want them to surrender the Guard to me, as the on the spot representative for the SEMC. That means the Guard are free of the crazies."
He grinned, "Well, the other crazies. I'm still here."
Back on open mic. "Your request has been relayed in full, Colonel Cross has the ball. While we wait, you know I've got to ask. You have your job, we have ours. What says we're not going to cross paths again?"

I'd say to accept the offer," Prerna replies as she watches the negotiator through her optics.shaidar wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 9:42 pm Frank
On the officer channel:
"I see no reason not to agree to their conditions, but I'm open to opposing arguments. If we agree to this then we still need to stay alert, they have shown us once already that they do not stick to the rules when they attacked the ambulance, but I think it' worth the risk and it sounds like a one time only deal."

Re: Inchin: Endgame
With all the copter drones stationary, I'll take the moment to program the grav drone...out of the wrecked gun...5km straight up...1km due north, record for 20mins, reverse path home. Full stealth mode. If they have the technology to stop a tiny, stealthed target at 5km, our copter drones are toast at 600m. Total round trip 23mins. No intermediate transmissions.
Re: Inchin: Endgame
"Grav drone" with "stealth" capacity - I'm not sure you posses such an animal???
I'll need some more clues here on provenance to work this through.

"I'm inclined to accept the deal under the following terms...our air assets remain in their current positions to monitor the situation, but our drones are free to move around unimpeded to provide surveillance for the safety of our troops. Also lieutenant, once we have the released prisoners I'd like each one checked to make sure they're recognised by at least two guard senior NCO's, let's not open ourselves to more trouble. This is the final opportunity to speak if anyone has reservations"

"Good point Sargent-Major, let's add that to the conditions too.

Re: Inchin: Endgame
Jakob relaxed, and stayed ready. Junior officers often got uptight; they wanted to present a rough and ready image. Jakob was past that. He had been mentored by some of the Imperium's best. They taught him to relax, and to open his mind to process the data.
He was pretty sure they were watching his team. And him. If not, well, it didn't matter. Let them see what they were up against. Jakob was rightly proud of his team, and he knew the Guard would act with elan. They were rescuing their own and the Guard knew the soldiers protecting them were combat veterans who actually lived through missions.
Jakob listened to the command chatter while letting his sensors and brain take in the Chefsergeant. The treatment of the Guardsman was disdainful. Dubs would have the image on the man's uniform and would be processing it.
Jakob let his question hang in the air between them as the chatter flowed. His side knew what he was doing; trying to gather data on the enemy mission. However Chefsergeant Jørgen replied, or even if he didn't reply, it provided more data. These people liked their Nordic heritage, Jakob was pretty sure that one-eyed man was from some story (1). He had seen things like it before. Somewhere (2).
He focused on the Guardsman. The man was broken. "Soldier, you have been released to my unit. I expect you to carry your weight and do your duty. We are on a Rescue and Recovery operation; report to Sergeant Dawson." (3)
As the Guardsman headed to the ambulance, Jakob's focus went back to the Chefsergeant. Fortunately for Jakob, the combat armor hid his feral smile.

"If there are no other issues to raise then lieutenant please see if they will accept our conditions, making it clear that the prisoners are being released into our custody, not the guards. We are also going to have to search the prisoners to ensure they are no danger"

ooc: Sorry, not trying to rush this along, just minimise dead time. We ought to wait for some feedback from Tiglath to Jacob's questions. I get nervous with you guys out there

Re: Inchin: Endgame
(OOC: First to clarify something I clearly failed to get across properly / a reply I may have misunderstood: Chefsergeant Rolf Jørgen, Monoc Securities, (a merc) bonded at Trexalon is Jakob's interlocutor from the "new" opposition unit).

Re: Inchin: Endgame
Oh, yeah. That changes things a good bit. I thought the Chefsergeant was the Guardsman. Give me a bit to fix my posts.
On slight retrospect, the Guards and Jess seem more "British" while the opposing forces seem "Nordic". Yet we have both in the SEMC, so I wasn't sure how to view things. Can't understand either of them, half the time...
Re: Inchin: Endgame
Jakob gave Chefsergeant Jørgen time to respond to the crossing paths question. It also gave Recon time to get their stuff into place.
OOC: To move things along, if he doesn't respond in a "normal" amount of time:
Jakob straightened, and moved his weapon's muzzle back and down to a more formal and less aggressive position. "Chefsergeant Jørgen, Colonel Cross agrees with the intent of your proposal. I am Lieutenant Jakob Domici of the Slightly Ethical Mercenary Company, bonded on Collace, and I accept the transfer of your prisoners and the wounded."
"However, there are time critical battle injuries that need our air assets, and as you said, the townsfolk may have their own agenda. Keeping our unarmed medics and recovery teams safe is a priority. If I understand your intent, and please correct me if I am wrong, you are looking to release the prisoners and wounded to us without us monitoring your locations. Am I correct?"
OOC: If "yes".
"Our mandate is to recover the Guard assets, or eliminate those that cannot be easily recovered. If you can pull back, and have someone lead me to the prisoners and captives, I will serve as the contact point for our operations, and you can observe me as closely as you see fit. The vehicles that cannot be recovered will be destroyed. We will focus our recon efforts on our recovery mission; and I will remain with your unit's designated representative until the operation is complete. Is that acceptable, Chefsergeant?"

With PbP we are all divided by a flawed communication mechanic. On the odd occasion, even with old hands, it falls short. No worries at all!Leitz wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 2:35 pm Oh, yeah. That changes things a good bit. I thought the Chefsergeant was the Guardsman. Give me a bit to fix my posts.

Coyly allowing a peek behind the GM's screen the "nationalities" I use are as follows: Collace natives are based on the honest and upright citizens of London's east end (they share a Law Level!), the Guard, among others, are "268 neutral" but based on the "parade units" of the Maratha kingdom that fell short of expectation on the battlefield (their officers are mostly real historic mercs). Gaughan and his men are from Connaught. The odd behaviour of their officer corps is based on inter war styles that when tested were found to not work e.g. Romania.
My hope is that the accents used allow some colour but aren't too opaque.
Now, there's a thing...

Righto, I'll get along with moving us along ...

Re: Inchin: Endgame
OOC for Jakob:
Here's a thing - if "Monoc" in Monoc Securities is a compound of Monoccular then maybe that would mean these guys were his close protection!
2. Yes he has but can't remember where
3. I'll cover as an IC result/effect.
1. That would surely be the one eyed "All Father" a mythical figure the Swordy's are big on. He apparently hangs out up a mountain / in a big anti grav palace crewed by hot Swordy chicks (who all call him "Daddy") and populated entirely by selected heroes. There's funny Swordy names for the different groups of his staff that Jakob can't quite bring to mind.

Re: Inchin: Endgame
Gaughan replies on Jess’ personal comm stating that he’ll sort recovering the tank out and then adds “Well, the poor auld fellas out here were in a bit of a bind - so I decided to help them out. I didn’t think I did so badly on the auld physical therapy though but I wouldn’t want to worry you. So, perhaps I should have another assessment?”
Jess, amused, replies conversationally: You're an undisciplined rogue Sar'nt. T'be fair, I'd've done the same. I'll certainly be testing yer fitness levels when we stand down from this op. Might need ter assign bed rest, if'n yer've overexerted yerself.
Louder and more militarily: Now, get that frellin' tank of yours movin', 'fore this ceasefire thing blows up.

Jess
Gaughan replies casually “I’m so very keen not to put you off but would it be a surprise to hear I’ve been called worse? There was this auld fella from Pavabid wanted security for his load of holy wine and “fallen women” - all about the “religious instruction” he was. You’d not believe the language on the man!”
Without missing a beat Gaughan replies “Yes, Ma’am. We’re droppin’ the relief crew onto the turret top now. Whatever’s happened has happened and any surprises left by yer man there won’t hurt a tank”.
He adds "Have you heard "Haste to the Wedding"? It's lovely jig so it is - but improvising AP mines against tanks? D'you think yer magician man's bag might be a bit light on the auld "gifts"?"

Jakob
Chefsergeant Jørgen seeks Jakob’s permission before stepping closer to speak without shouting.
He slings his SMG and salutes Jakob saying “I know who you are Lieutenant Domici, Imperial Marines no? Good soldiers”. Jakob can see the good natured grin in the crow’s feet about Jørgen‘s blue eyes above his mask as he deliberately says “Of course, I was hoping to meet Skip Dallas. Is it like having an annoyingly more famous bigger brother for you?”
He continues casually “Are you hungry? I have some good smoked sausage. You should try it now while you're alive - we might be fighting soon!”
He chuckles then adds “But I’m not so sure our paths will cross so soon. I think that the Guard may now have run out of infantry and that their tanks might have finally learned they can’t operate in towns. Do you think?”

I think y've put yer finger on it there Darragh, right 'nough. Didn't destroy the tanks, an' they didn't capture 'em neither. Runnin' out've the good stuff, seems like.
