Re: Character Creation
Do you mind if I roll for the character and work around the randomized results?
I have really enjoyed that for the Dungeon Crawl Classic funnel game I am in.

Re: Character Creation
I think I understand what you're getting at and that will pretty much be what we're going with. Go ahead and follow the instructions under A Summary of Character Creation in the rules. Please use the site dice roller, Game ID: 872.
Pasted here:
1. Roll your six attributes or assign them from an array, using Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. Attributes reflect the basic potential of your hero. Roll 3d6 six times and assign them in order, or use an array of 14, 12, 11, 10, 9, 7 assigned as you wish. If you randomly roll your scores you may then pick one attribute to change to a score of 14.
One exception to the above: If you roll your stats and end up with 3 scores below 9, you may go ahead and re-roll.

Re: Character Creation
So, here was my first set
Stats: STR:6, DEX:11, CON:10, INT:4, WIS:12, CHR:7
As I had 3 scores below 9 I rolled again:
Stats: STR:10, DEX:9, CON:13, INT:8, WIS:11, CHR:13
So, I'll swap the 8 INT for 14, giving
STR:10, DEX:9, CON:13, INT:14, WIS:11, CHR:13
Stats: STR:6, DEX:11, CON:10, INT:4, WIS:12, CHR:7
As I had 3 scores below 9 I rolled again:
Stats: STR:10, DEX:9, CON:13, INT:8, WIS:11, CHR:13
So, I'll swap the 8 INT for 14, giving
STR:10, DEX:9, CON:13, INT:14, WIS:11, CHR:13

Re: Character Creation
LOL. I honestly didn't expect anybody to have three rolls under 9. Glad I put that in for you.

Re: Character Creation
Here goes:
[_3d6] = (6+1+6)=13, [_3d6] = (2+2+3)=7, [_3d6] = (2+2+1)=5
[_3d6] = (4+5+5)=14, [_3d6] = (6+6+1)=13, [_3d6] = (6+1+5)=12
So I’ll change that ugly 5 to a 14.
STR 13, DEX 7 (-1), CON 14 (+1), INT 14 (+1), WIS 13, CHR 12
Random background, courtesan! [1d20] = 3
STR 13, DEX 9, CON 14 (+1), INT 14 (+1), WIS 13, CHR 12
[_3d6] = (6+1+6)=13, [_3d6] = (2+2+3)=7, [_3d6] = (2+2+1)=5
[_3d6] = (4+5+5)=14, [_3d6] = (6+6+1)=13, [_3d6] = (6+1+5)=12
So I’ll change that ugly 5 to a 14.
STR 13, DEX 7 (-1), CON 14 (+1), INT 14 (+1), WIS 13, CHR 12
Random background, courtesan! [1d20] = 3
Perform-0
Two rolls on growth table: [1d6] = 4, [1d6] = 5 +2 physical, Connect-0
And a roll on the learning table: [1d8] = 3 Exert-0
STR 13, DEX 9, CON 14 (+1), INT 14 (+1), WIS 13, CHR 12
Perform-0
Connect-0
Exert-0
Talk-0 (from Diplomat focus)
Sneak-0 (Specialist)
Program-0 (chosen round out skill)
I’ll make him an expert.
Foci
Specialist - Sneak
Diplomat
Luck ran out with the hp roll: [1d6] = 1 +1 = 2 HP

That 3 is brutal. You can feel good knowing that you've used all your bad luck for the day.

Really interesting character. That Exert stands out as "different" from the rest.NJWilliam wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 9:43 pm Here goes:

Re: Character Creation
I am thinking of the character having a neuromuscular disorder that has advanced to the point of causing atrophy of the leg muscles. The disorder will continue to be degenerative. Affording the costs for treatment, and locating the doctors that can identify and help with the disorder, are his motivations for criminal activity.
He has learned to rely on other people and convince other people to do his work for him.
The muscular disorder afforded him a lot of time isolated in his own head. This revealed to him some psionic aptitude. Conveniently it is telekinetic providing some ability to mitigate the reduced mobility.

Not the easiest to do but I'll take a crack. By the way, if I'm remarking below it's not because I think you did it wrong.Samwell Turleton wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 1:10 pm I welcome an audit of my character sheet if anyone knows the rules well.
-With that dexterity, it might make more sense to choose a melee skill instead of a shooting skill. That way you are using a +1 STR attribute bonus instead of -2 DEX
-I see you took Henchkeeper as your partial expert focus, did you also take it as your regular focus? If so, you are at Henchkeeper lvl 2
-Either way with Henchkeeper, I have no problem with you tracking extra hired hands as help. We just won't stat them up as full PC's as mentioned in the rules for Henchkeeper.
-Make sure you record your total attack bonus and damage for each weapon
-Record the Shock damage for the Stun Baton
-It looks to me that your Psychic effort should be 2 / 2: 1 + psychic skill level (0) + best of WIS or CON (1)
-You may want some kind of armor...or at least clothing. Then record your AC.

Re: Character Creation
Thank you for the corrections and suggestions!
I thought it might make more sense if the character has limited mobility to have the ranged weapon, even if he is shooting wildly
I wasn’t certain if Henchkeeper could be boosted beyond lvl-1 so I intended to take it as the focus and to shift the partial expert point to the Lead skill. It sounds like you would allow Henchkeeper - 2? I will shift to that if possible.
I will update the bonuses and record weapon information.
It wasn’t clear to me that the psychic effort starts at 1 and then gets modified by level and attribute modifiers. I agree it would be 2.
Do I have plain clothes at AC 10 or is that something to purchase?

Here is the section from the book: You can pick one level of a focus of your choice. Characters with the Expert class or the Partial Expert feature of the Adventurer class get one level of a non-combat, non-psychic focus for free in addition to this. They can spend both levels on the same focus, starting with level 2 in it if they wish.
So it seems ok to me.
It wasn’t clear to me that the psychic effort starts at 1 and then gets modified by level and attribute modifiers. I agree it would be 2.
Yep: Both (psychics and partial psychics) also have a maximum Effort score equal to 1 plus their highest psychic skill plus the better of their Wisdom or Constitution modifiers.
Do I have plain clothes at AC 10 or is that something to purchase?
No need to purchase.

One other thing for you to do - Please let me know via private message in a couple sentences what your homeworld was like. I'll find that place in the sector and give you more info on it.

Re: Character Creation
I'm still reading over the rules, but I wanted to air a character concept that has been starting to grow. Barbarian background, with aspirations of leadership. Instead of following the traditional ritual combat dispute solving method of his homeworld, the character would have used realpolitik, blackmail, and general subterfuge that his culture was totally unprepared to deal with, but also totally unwilling to accept. Forced to leave the world (I haven't worked out how he left yet) the character nurtures a dream of amassing a force loyal to him to demand the tribes of his home to acknowledge his legitimate leadership status, then taking over the rest of the tribes his way. Mechanically he'd be a partial expert, partial warrior, looking to pick up a bunch of social skills and foci.

Stats.
Stats: STR:15, INT:3, WIS:13, DEX:13, CON:10, CHR:8
Will swap that awesome 3 for the 14
Str - 15
Int - 14
Wis - 13
Dex- 13
Con- 10
Chr-8
Background roll [1d20] = 8 - Noble
Free skill - Lead
Quick skills - Lead, administer, connect
Growth [1d6] = 2 - +2 mental
Mental [1d8] = 1 - Administer
Class - Adventurer

Raw Stats
Stats: STR:13, INT:12, CHR:16, DEX:13, CON:4, WIS:10
If there was any doubt, the 4 in constitution is getting swapped for a 14
Str-13
Dex-13
Con-14
Int-12
Wis-10
Cha-16
I'm picking my background, as long as that's allowed, so we have
Barbarian-
Survival 0
I'll be rolling for skills/advancements, so three rolls, two on the learning table and one on the growth table
Growth
[1d6] = 6
And Learning
[1d8] = 2
[1d8] = 7
That gives me one choice of any skill, Connect 0, and Sneak 0.
Classwise I'll be going with a partial expert, partial warrior adventurer. That gives me my standard level 1 focus, one skill related focus tied to my background, and one combat focus related to my background. For my expert focus, I'll be taking Connected, to represent my character's knack for getting to know useful people. That also grants me Connect 0, which becomes Connect 1 since I already have Connect 0. As my general focus, I'll be taking Authority, as my character has a knack for not only getting to know people, but getting them to do him favors. That also gives me Lead 0. Finally, for my combat focus, I'll take Alert, because my character is a weasel who survived as much by getting out of dodge ahead of a fight as by fighting well. That also gives me Notice 0. For the Any Skill from my growth roll I'll take Shoot 0, since at some point since I left the homeworld I've learned the fine art of shooting a gun. Finally, for the skill selection everyone gets, I'll be taking Stab 0, since you don't grow up on a barbarian world and not know how to use a knife (or a battleaxe).
Skills
Connect 1
Lead 0
Notice 0
Shoot 0
Stab 0
Survive 0
For hit points
[1d6+3] = 3+3 = 6
Not bad. I still don't plan on getting shot.
Attack bonus is +1 because of Partial Warrior.
Physical Saving throw: 14
Mental Saving throw: 14
Evasion Saving throw: 15
I'm going to roll cash and buy equipment a la carte, because that's fun to me.
[2d6] = 9
So, 900 credits to work with. Nice.
