Sumer watches Ribar in repose; her mind of science and meta science working. "Perhaps it is not destruction that is needed, but redirecting. We have been thinking about how to break it all along, but what about changing it...sprucing it up!"
Can Sumer use either her Magical Engineering or History to know if this has been done/can be doable?
Sumer wrinkles her brow and thinks about the problem. To begin with, she knows there are four primary realms that make up the Absalom. There is the Mortal world, where she and her companions dwell, and Faery, where the fae live. Faery and the Mortal world are like two sides of the same coin; similar but unalike at the same time. A location in Faery coterminous with the Mortal world might exhibit radically different terrain or climate.

Immediately adjacent to, and only accessible via, the Mortal world is the Shadow Realm, a land of death and gloom where souls go upon death and demons lurk. Faery has its equivalent, the Dry Lands, which is theorized to be simila to the mortal Shadow Realms. However, one must pass through Faery in order to enter the Dry Lands.

Interwoven between all of these are the elemental planes, which contain the basic building blocks of all matter.

It is clear to Sumer that the temple is a gate somewhere, a gate that exists in both places at once. Her best guess is that the strange, reddish sky exists either in Faery or the Shadow Realm. Would destroying the temple destroy the gate? She cannot say with any certainty. She does, however, know that sanctifying temples can be accomplished either through the casting of spells or the sprinkling of holy water, after any implements or symbols of evil have been removed.

I'm guessing that reconsecration is currently beyond Ribar's powers, what would be required?

Usually it would involve the casting of one or more bless spells, in addition to anything else that would need to happen (such as closing the gate between the two worlds.

"I have with me three flasks of holy water, but I fear that may not be adequate to deal with such a potent connection to another realm.

"We might be able to defeat the shadows dwelling here, given time, but perhaps they are being spawned by the gate itself? It seems closing the gate is the only option.

"Perhaps some of the blessings of the Mnencir might aid in the closing of the gate, at which point Ribar could reconsecrate the church to Manifest..."
tk, where would I find the description of the exorcise spell? I'm rushing a bit this morning but I can't seem to find it anywhere...

For the party, I also have dispel magic, so depending on what exorcise does, maybe I can cast both of those at the gate tomorrow and we see what's what?

Ribar stands from his prayer.

"I received no communication from Manifest, but while I was meditating I had a thought. I can reconsecrate with blessings from Manifest, but we would need to close the gateway first, and obviously not destroy the building. My thoughts were that if we destroyed the shadow spawn on this side then the doorway between worlds might close naturally close as there are no shadows on this side and now the priest is dead no humans on the other side."

Sumer

Sumer would be up for anything at this point. She knows history and magical arts, but does not have any powers useful in working this particular problem without destruction.

Feargus

"Please do kill the shadows. Also do it while it is still sunny."

Feargus heads back to the temple and peaks his head in again. "I'll keep watch here." He keep an eye inside the temple, making sure no more shadows exit through the gateway.

It's from Labyrinth Lord Advanced. I can post the description in a bit if you need it.

The Village of Shadows
4:00 pm

Time passes as the adventurers debate their next course of action. Shadows lengthen as the sun sinks low in the sky. Though summer is approaching, the days have yet to reach their longest lengths, especially here in the woods. The adventurers judge they may have an hour or less before the village is in shade.

"That may well be the best course of action, Newton. Feargus and I will keep a look out and assist if anyone is in danger, though our weapons are no longer able to strike the shadows."

Gardo

Shrugging, Gardo rotates his right shoulder a bit. "Yeah, best get on with it. Might be the only thing keeping them inside the fence was that priest. Someone who cannot fight these things should look into making sure the temple door can't reopen. Notai, let's try and get these shadows again like we did at the fence."
It's hard to explain puns to kleptomaniacs because they always take things literally.

Sumer

"My weapons cannot help and my birds and speed is all I can lend you."
Sumer is ready to cast another Haste spell if needed. Otherwise, she only has her attack cantrip to use.

The Rest of the Village

Under the influence of Sumer's remaining spell of swiftness the adventurers are able to quickly clear the remaining shadows. There are two groups, each lurking in different rooms, and two strange shadow spiders, fangs dripping with tenebrous gel, that are also hunted down and slain. It seems they are unable to leave their buildings while the sun still shines.

It will likely take the bulk of the next day to search the buildings, should that be the desired course of action.
I rolled out some basic rounds of action, and between Haste and the fact that you guys have some advantage means you are able to clear everything. I'm going to say that everyone involved in melee combat with them takes, say, 5 points of damage.

Newton

With the shadow-creatures destroyed Newton checks out the temple to see if there is any change to its status.

If not then he suggests we set up a watch overnight in case anything comes through.
Otherwise, I'm happy to leave the plundering until the morning

Fifthmonth, Twentyfirstday
The Village of Shadows

The night passes without incident, and the adventurers rise in the morning to begin a thorough search of the village.
Let me know if there's anything specific you want to do.
