LFP Warhammer 40000 (FFG edition)

#1 Post by RotFuchs »

Versions:

In Dark Heresy (2008), the player characters are agents of the Inquisition. (campaign flexible)

In Rogue Trader (2009), the player characters are important members of ship crews in interstellar trade and exploration, often encountering xenos. (campaign flexible)

Deathwatch (2010), has a martial focus. The player characters are loyalist Space Marines. (Personally I prefer to run this one)

Black Crusade (2011), has a martial focus. The player characters are followers of Chaos (not necessarily soldiers).

Only War (2012), has a martial focus. The player characters are Imperial Guardsmen.

Game System: d10 / d100 (same dice basically)

Characters are created with 9 statistics:
• Weapon Skill (WS): Hand-to-hand and melee proficiency.
• Ballistic Skill (BS): Governs all projectile and ranged attacks.
• Strength (S): Physical strength of a character.
• Toughness (T): Resistance to physical punishment.
• Agility (Ag): Governs how quickly an individual can move as well as how well they can dodge. Intelligence (Int): Used to work technology and understand languages and writings.
• Perception (Per): How quickly you notice things and in how much detail.
• Will Power (WP): Your resistance to horrors and used to manifest psychic abilities.
• Fellowship (Fel): Used for interaction with other people.

All actions, like making an attack roll or using a skill, uses the following basic mechanic:
• Roll percentile dice
• Add bonuses or penalties associated with the action
• Compare the result to the appropriate characteristic; equal to or lower indicates success; greater than the characteristic indicates failure.

I'm very interested in Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, or Deathwatch, would you be running 1st or 2nd edition for Dark Heresy?

Sounds good! Did you have an idea on what kind of posting rate you'd like to see in the game?

Once per day would be ideal but I'd like at least 3 times per week minimum. Is that ok? It will be my first DM game (hopefully). I have the 1st edition of Dark Heresy.

Yeah that sounds good to me! As a heads up, I'd mostly be posting in the evening GMT-8.

The FFG 40k system is pretty simple and FFG still hosts the quickstart rules for deathwatch on there site if you're interested in taking a look just google "Final Sanction Deathwatch"

Yes, we will start from the basics. The first mission will be by the book, but with all Space Marine supplement rules active. I will provide everything if someone does not has it.

For Deathwatch the Space Marine roles are:
1.Apothecary
2.Assault Marine
3.Devastator Marine
4.Librarian
5.Tactical Marine
6.Techmarine
7.Blackshield
8.Deathwatch Champion
9.Deathwatch Chaplain
10.Deathwatch Dreadnought
11.Deathwatch Epistolary (same as Librarian with different stats)
12.Deathwatch Forge Master (same as Techmarine with different stats)
13.Deathwatch Keeper
14.Deathwatch Kill-Marine
15.Deathwatch Watch Captain (probably I will lock it as being the DM)
16.First Company Veteran (probably I will not allow it but I will have the players train in the use of Terminator Armour)
17.Deathwatch Watch Master (DEFINITELY locked, being the DM)
18.Blood Angels Librarian Dreadnought
19.Blood Angels Sanguinary Priest
20.Dark Angels Ravenwing Veteran
21.Dark Angels Deathwing Terminator
22.Space Wolves Scout (this is not your standard Space Marine scout)
23.Space Wolves Wolf Priest
24.Ultramarines Tyrranic War Veteran
25.Ultramarines Honour Guard
26.Black Templars Sword Brothers (special rules)
27.Black Templars Emperor's Champion (special rules)
(wow, have never listed the roles in one sheet and didn't knew it had so much)

and can choose whatever chapter you want (some are listed in the books with special chapter rules) or make your own chapter (you have to discuss it with me first). Dreadnoughts are walking tanks but have limitations and I suggest to not be used as PC, rather as NPCs. No more than 1 Dreadnought will be per game / adventure.

I feel the pull of the librarian within me but I also love the Salamanders and their melta weapons...so many dang options!!! I'll need to go through my books to try and narrow down my choices.

The Deathwatch is a special organisation compiled from all over the Chapters. Its purpose is to protect humankind from the Xenos threats. So you can choose whatever chapter you like, it's not like that the players will stick with the same chapter (although they are free to do so but variation is the Deathwatch's motif)

If you're familiar with the dawn of war series I believe that the Blood Ravens are an available chapter in one of the books, and it sounds like you want to be the tactical marine class, they're the most common/versatile type of space marine.

Yep, BR are a chapter in one of the books with their own rules(?). When I say rules they have 4-5 pages mostly with lore and some specific rules. They are in the supplement "Honour the Chapter".

I am waiting for a couple more players to start the campaign. I think the game is better with 3-5 players. 5 is the basic squad on the tabletop and it is a good number but we can start at 3 players and go from there.

Hi there. I'm interested, although I've never played an actual session of one of FFG's series I've read through some of the Dark Heresy rules before now so I have a bit of a grasp of the concepts. Also. I've played a lot of tabletop 40K, some of the computer games set in that universe and know a lot of the fluff. As soon as I can have a read through the Deathwatch rulebook and the errata (I have access to pdf copies) I'll probably look into making up a Wolf Scout character as Space Wolves are my primary tabletop faction and I know their lore the best of all.

Rotfuchs - help please. After reading the main rulebook a bit, I see that the Wolf Scout specialisation isn't in there. Which book or supplement contains that one? I'll probably come across it eventually, this is just in the interests of time.

Edit - I found it, it's in First Founding :D

I think I've read enough to start making up a Wolf Scout character. I'm leaning towards one who is particularly skilled at demolitions. When a mission requires that things go boom, he's probably the one for the task ;)

I'm interested in all but Rogue Trader, and have some mild Dark Heresy 2e experience. I'm relatively new to 40k, but I know the factions, fluff and similar things moderately well.

My time zone is GMT+0, and I am able to post mostly midday to afternoon.
