Jacor

We can't bash it open. Perhaps we could find a way to move it aside?

Jacor searches the slab visually and by moving his hands across it feeling for indentations.

Endor aids Jacor, looking for any secret way of entering.

Unfortunately, the stone appears far too hard for a miner's pick to be efficacious.
Harker, I was expecting (and hinted in previous ooc scripts) that with a couple of sledgehammers bought and a couple of miner's picks that we would not leave Hector to do the work alone.

Harker takes a hammer, he gives another to Jacor and a pick to Endor We should weigh in for an hour then swap with Mal, Filbert & Blaive.

Harker

Gives Endor a look. (8 strength is not a Hindrance to hard work)

With the mastiff Tyson, the torch bearer Toug and hired thief Quall and perhaps one other, (Mal) we should be amply guarded.

No secret entrances are visible; but the sledgehammers permit work to go quickly, and within twenty minutes the cover has been reduced to rubble. (Fortunately, the noise did not attract anything unpleasant.)

The resultant entrance is about seven feet high and ten feet broad. Nothing is visible within.

I don't know how darkvision works, but several of us have it.

Vann Hector

rules on Infravision are found on page 44 of basic handbook

After pounding the cover stone and seeing it collapse, he momentarily rests. "Good job everyone." He swaps hammer for sword as he waits for the sneaky scouts to assess the interior.

The gap is larger and wider than expected. It probably demonstrates the fragile nature of the rocks in the tomb infrastructure. Prone to cracks and fallingots apart. Should be careful of further roof or wall collapses.

Right as the final blow is struck, and the stone cover collapses to rubble, Filbert returns from his "patrol". He looks deeply into the darkness beyond and says nervously, "Heh, looks dark in there. And me with nary a torch. Heh." Filbert turns and shrugs his shoulders at no one in particular, waiting for someone to step forward and take the lead of the expedition into the mound.

Jacor

I guess we should figure out how we are going to approach this thing. Are we going to send in a scout or all go in at once? In the latter case, I could take the lead as I have heavy armor. I will need a torch for sure.

Harker

Sets aside his tool. He unleashes Tyson, calling him to heal by the breach."Sit. Guard.Good dog!" he says ruffling the mastiff's head. Lighting one of the torches which he carries in one hand, he steps through the gap, sword held before him in the other.

Jacor follows Harker inside, broadsword in hand.

The interior of the barrow looks to be about 20 feet in diameter, with no other entrances or exits. Two slabs of stone lie perpendicular to the entrance; upon the slabs lie two skeletons respectively, draped in burial shrouds, each with a sealed vase of red clay at its head and an elaborately decorated amphora at its feet.

Brother Blaive peers into the newly opened as Harker and Jacor enter, shifting uncomfortably before making up his mind. "Wait for me! You run into any undead I may be able to drive them back. And so the Cleric followed close behind staff in hand, if the mound opens up inside he'll switch back to his sling.

Jacor sheaths his broadsword and readies his mace.

This mace seems more appropriate for smashing those skeletons if they decide to wake up. Somebody want to take a look at one of those vases?

Mal follows from behind everyone else, giving the dog’s muzzle a stroke before entering the barrow. The crossbow is no good in such close quarters so the group’s sole mage carries her quarterstaff at the ready. She’s ready to either fight or cast sorcerous magic though in truth Mal was praying she wouldn’t run.

Mal wrinkled her nose.“The smell...so that’s the smell of the dead. Be careful, there might be a trap or two, maybe with the vases or amphorae.”

Mal will also look at the ceiling, floor and walls from her vantage point just inside the opening of the interior chamber, using the light of Harker’s torch to gauge anything interesting or dangerous.

Filbert looks at Endor, looks at the opening into the mound, and looks back at Endor and says, "Oh, I uh, guess I'd better, go..." His voice trails off and he motions with his thumb in the direction of the rest of the party, then quickly turns and draws his short sword as he steps just inside the mound.

Filbert wrinkles his little halfling nose as he sees the remains of the two individuals lying on the stone slabs. Speaking softly, as though not to disturb them, he asks, "Oh, are they, dead?"

Endor enters as well. "Don't touch nothing, let me take a look." He will check the ground, the slabs and finally the pottery for any poisons or needles or hidden mechanism.

Vann Hector

"Glad our welcoming committee still sleeps!"

As others explore he will take his bow and assume an over watch of the mound and supplies with the torch bearer.

"Well done Toug. You have guided us to an unexplored area. How well do you know these mounds? Have you taken other adventurers nearby recently?"

He is trying to engage the guide in small talk, hoping he might share a bit more of his employer Osen. Did he say 'go to this area' or 'make sure you avoid ruins x,y,z' kind of thing. Did other groups have success or failure?

Brother Blaive watches the two skeletons nervously, clutching his wooden holy symbol in his hand and his staff in the other ready to turn them if they should come back to life. "That's right Vann Hector let's hope they stay sleeping..."
