[012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
What do you want to do with the Vargr who sort of wound up on the launch...
The Lady Alicia had been interested in an archeological investigation of the temple. You could probably convince her it is too dangerous, or you can use her pull to get appropriate resources to properly secure it.

Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Foix has absolutely no idea what to do with the Vargr. He(?) will be treated well and fairly and given over to Auntie to look after - he no doubt forms the core of her research and is also her chief exhibit. Foix will suggest that when she's finished with her "science" she might want to put him back where he came from?
Whilst not wishing to dissuade Auntie from the pursuit of knowledge Foix points out that if he goes back to the Temple then his entrance to every room there will be preceded by a hand grenade and then a combat engineer with a flamethrower.
(OOC: If anyone actually wants to fight more spiders / revisit the Temple then Auntie would no doubt love the support! )

Foix will contact House Salazar and invite them for dinner. He wants to squeeze the flesh and make sure they're still supportive/allied to the Domain of Foix.
But there's poison too! Wait, come back... !joertexas wrote:Vee will pass on that fine opportunity, thanks

Vee checks on the health of the recently-abused shuttle, and lends her expertise in repairs, if needed.Tiglath wrote:Foix will contact House Salazar and invite them for dinner. He wants to squeeze the flesh and make sure they're still supportive/allied to the Domain of Foix.

Tiglath wrote:Those promising souls who bore up under adversity: Taheri, Quinn and Hiroto Petrov he invites to remain as his guests until they have determined their futures. The Kiara Surabi will be going on to Damkina.
So Foix engages in some local (noble) diplomacy and (when Auntie is ready) we're continuing on to Damkina leaving Arthiop and its alternatively poisonous and/or radioactive charms behind us!Tiglath wrote:Foix will contact House Salazar and invite them for dinner. Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
So you are assuming you can convince Auntie to give up her idea of archeological exploration... You at least need to inform her what will be necessary to return... Also she's likely to grab on the first contact possibilities...Tiglath wrote:Tiglath wrote:Those promising souls who bore up under adversity: Taheri, Quinn and Hiroto Petrov he invites to remain as his guests until they have determined their futures. Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Vee opines -privately to Foix- that any safe attempt at first contact is nearly impossible now that the spiders know we humans shoot back. Although, if someone can interview the Vargr, he may have some insight they can use.ffilz wrote:So you are assuming you can convince Auntie to give up her idea of archeological exploration... Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Foix points out the following to his Aunt:
This just wasn't "first contact". The spiders' relationship with humans was established by the rogue Imperial Scouts (whose mess this is - now handed to the Imperial Navy).
The spiders' behaviour towards humans entirely matches their established hostile and predatory behaviour towards the local vargr.
The spiders are a "clear and present danger" to any who venture halfway around a radioactive planet to go and bother them. Fortunately, an obvious method of staying safe presents itself - just say "No"!
During just one encounter with the spiders the best soldiers Foix knows (himself and Ana) became casualties and Taheri nearly so. That's the entire "professional" fighting contingent of the crew.
Returning to the site to conduct xeno archeology in these circumstances goes way beyond "reckless" and right over into "suicidal".
She has her very own "First!" - a vargr! No one else has one and, no, she can't have a spider too!
Furthermore, Foix isn't comfortable with genocide (insecticide???) on the grounds of "scientific convenience/access". Beyond that, military operations to "clear" the site with minimal casualties would render the entire thing useless to spiders, vargr and human researchers alike.
He will contact the Imperial Navy and suggest they interdict the area (Red Zone or local equivalent).
(OOC: Alternatively "Nuke the entire site from orbit - it's the only way to be sure" ).

Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Auntie's response: sign, unfortunately you talk good sense. I will have to await the proper authorities doing something, or at least pull in the proper House Foix resources. Are you sure we want to blab to the Navy or should we keep it in house for now?Tiglath wrote:Foix points out the following to his Aunt:

Consider that House Foix might actually have more resources to deal with this than the Imperium forces.
Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Foix replies "Are you considering calling in House troops to deal with this? You will need Engineers if it goes badly with the spiders - I require infantry. I will certainly agree to the summons - it is an entirely convenient pretext. It seems the Imperium are entirely powerless in this matter. Informing them was a courtesy - we can still afford them that. I will amend my suggestions to them to ensure they understand that the area is interdicted to their personnel as well and, now that we have informed them, everything is on a "need to know" basis".
Foix pauses and then adds "Speak to your new friend and ask how many vargr of fighting age are in his ... ah ... pack? Instruct our troops to bring that many SMGs with them and ammunition, of course, and adjustable cloth armour. If they have suits of reflec armour bring those too - universal issue and spares for the vargr".

Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
It's bad enough that something like this is likely to get passed over, no immediate direct threat to imperial resources. The imperial forces are busy dealing with more serious fires, like the dust up at Tegel. News has also just come in that civil war has broken out on Cheapside.Tiglath wrote:Foix replies "Are you considering calling in House troops to deal with this? Vee, who has been quietly listening to the conversation, speaks up. "Are we going back there, my Lord?"Tiglath wrote:Foix replies "Are you considering calling in House troops to deal with this? Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Foix replies resignedly "Lady Alicia always has the best of intentions and a fine instinct for a righteous cause but is a magnet for trouble - did I tell you about her picnic in a minefield?"
"The Imperium will do nothing about the situation here and so the responsibility lies with House Foix. I will also take any opportunity to expand and strengthen my Domain while the Imperium withers and continually fails in its duty to the people of the Rift!"
"Speaking with the Vargr may tell us more - for example is this just one group of spiders or they are a nation state living on this planet underground? Arming the vargr will improve their lot and may force the spiders to reconsider their hostility and negotiate".
"Choosing sides in someone else's conflict is a foolish and reckless pursuit at best and should be given much deliberation and thought. In this case the spiders shot me and bit my old comrade. Decision made!"
(OOC: Due to the paucity of Imperial resources Foix is suffering from an attack of noblesse oblige).

Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Vee carefully considers her next words. "While I will follow where you lead, my Lord, I am concerned that there are other events in motion that more urgently require our attention. Unless there is something that will materially aid our cause within the temple, then we may wish to consider another action in light of the Imperium's withdrawal."Tiglath wrote:"Choosing sides in someone else's conflict is a foolish and reckless pursuit at best and should be given much deliberation and thought. Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Foix replies "I do not propose to see out a campaign here or even start a war - although I hope to prevent one. I have need of troops and my aunt's request for them here gives me options. Any House troops under my direct command will be loyal and ex Legionnaires may yet arrive here in response to my call".
He gives Vee an admiring smile "My Lady and my Knight it seems you have the gift to already know my mind. Please, speak freely and share your thoughts of an alternative action".

Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Vee takes a breath. "My Lord, House Foix, and you, are on the cusp of a great opportunity. As the Imperium withdraws, it creates a vacuum. That vacuum is being filled as we speak. Now, this moment, is the time victory will cost us the least in blood and treasure. The question before you is, how will you move to secure our House's interests?"Tiglath wrote:He gives Vee an admiring smile "My Lady and my Knight it seems you have the gift to already know my mind. Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
Ana collects any of the scouts gear, particularly recording devices and puts them in her and Sara’s quarter’s. Then she brings Sara with her to interviewi each of the scouts and the vargr separately. She keeps each of them apart prior to the interview so the is no cross contamination of their stories.
Her aim is to find out what happened to the scouts from the moment they left their craft till we rescued them.
From the vargr she tries to tease out their history and their history with the spiders as well as the location of their crashed ship and whether it is empty or still occupied.
Once she has all the interviews she goes through the scouts gear for recording devices to back up their statements and creates a timeline.

Re: [012] Bug out and return to the Kiara Surabi
What is your plan for communication with the Vargr? The vargr is confused, it clearly does not understand Imperial Anglic... It does recognize that among you are warriors and you clearly are a superior force and it takes an appropriately defensive but not totally submissive posture.
