Arboretum
Sky openly ponders the appearance of more undead working in unison with goblins. "Maybe they have some sort of time-share thing going on," she ponders, then then starts laughing wildly. "I just imagined what they were thinking: 'Ugh. A gnome this time? What? He just shut the door? Who does that?'"

She scampers over to the north door, and allows Kelben to open it, after his normal inspection.

This area -- an apparent arboretum -- almost mirrors the one previously explored directly south of it.

The octagonal chamber is filled with a luminescent mist which blurs the furthest edges of the area. The humid air reeks with rot. Nodules of glowing fungus dot the stone walls and ceiling, as well as the caps of toadstools and mushrooms, small polyps, puffballs, and lichen also found dispersed throughout the area.

This apparent arboretum hold small samples of traditional Underdark ecosystems.

However, instead of goblin gardeners, as you encountered in the southern arboretum, this area is absent any goblins or undead or, seemingly anything else living or otherwise.

Unlike the southern chamber, however, Kelben spies a door leading from this space just off to his left.

The new door -- sturdy stone that does not allow sound -- is deemed to be safe by Kelben upon his inspection. The gnome carefully pulls the door open to reveal a 10-foot wide corridor that appears to run for 20- to 25-feet long before seeming to opening into a larger area:

Dragon Shrine
The curiosity over the red glow drives Sky to let her impulsiveness overcome her. She passes Kelben and takes the lead while exploring to the end of the this current hallway, and peers around the corner.

Dragon-carved granite blocks line this chamber’s walls and ceiling, though many are crumbled and broken, leaving stony debris on the floor.

A huge marble statue of a rearing red dragon stands in the curve of the western wall. The eye sockets of the dragon are empty, but the source of the red glow lingers there, providing the reddish light throughout the chamber. The radiance casts an inky shadow behind the statue’s wide wings.

A five-foot-diameter, circular tile of dark stone is set in the floor in front of the dragon statue. There appear to be runes of some kind carved around the circular tile’s inner edge.

Just around the corner, maybe 10-feet inset along the right-hand wall, is another door, which appears to be the only other exit out of this new area.

The Dragon statue piques the sorcerers interest. He'll wander over to the circular tile and see if he can read the runes without stepping onto the dark stone.

Cautiously, Hargrem joined the others as they inspected the statue and the tile. 'What in the world is this blasphemous thing?" he asked rhetorically. Something deep within him feared the rune laden tile.

"What in the world is this blasphemous thing?" Hargrem asks quietly, settling in behind Klilxuac as the dragonborn moves to the circular tile, and can tell at a quick glance that the words are written in Draconic.
Scott, I will need to know if you actually read the runes, and, if so, if you just read them to yourself, or read them aloud? ;)
Kelben, diverting his from peering into the red glowing eyes of the statue creeps around the corner and focuses on the door leading from the new room. The door is solid stone, like all the others they've encountered in the area. The rogue does not believe the door to be trapped, and there are no sounds heard coming from the other side.

Dragon Shrine
Hargrem continues to oversee Klilxuac as the dragonborn studies the runes inset along the circular tile in front of the shrine itself. The sorcerer reads the runes to himself.

Scott:
"Let the sorcerous power illuminate my spirit."
While the investigations remain ongoing, Kelben remains by the door, ready to proceed.

"Say, doesn't that dragon look familiar? Isn't that Ashardalon?" Sky asks while staring at the huge marble statue of a rearing red dragon. The bard believes it is.

Once the curious half-cat moves to inspect the empty eye sockets radiating red, he is startled by the gradual appearance of a human-sized, black shadowy figure that begins to slowly emerge from behind the shine and head directly towards the tabaxi.

When the spirit appeared, Hargrem immediately brought up his shield in defense. He moved in closer to the spirit and attempted to draw it away from the others, putting himself in between his companions and the shadowy figure. With a word, he attempted to bring the divine fire upon it. "Behind me!" he yelled back at the others.

"Hey! You! Don't come any closer!" Sky yells at the creepy shadow thing. She backs away quickly and continues insulting the newcomer. "Back off you creepy, dungeon-dwelling pervert!"
Sky casts Vicious Mockery at the creature.

The dragonborn is intrigued by the puzzle present in the runes. He has a few thoughts on what it means. He decides to try what he feels to be the obvious solution first. So focused on the current task, he doesn't notice the shadowy figure as he walks to the statue and, placing a hand upon the dragon's face, casts Light.

Kelben backs away and decides to stand back where he can fire arrows at the thing from a safe distance closer to Erky.

Round 1
Erky takes a step back, further into the passage feeding into this shrine chamber, and readies himself for a total defense in the chance the disturbed creature happens to target him.

"Hey! You! Don't come any closer!" Sky yells at the creepy shadow thing as she backs away quickly. "Back off you creepy, dungeon-dwelling pervert!" she continues. The incorporeal human form shakes its head, acknowledging it has been affected, but it quickly pushes the psychic taunting from the bard.

So lost in thought and focus, Klilxuac approaches the shrine of Ashardalon and, oblivious to the approaching figure, places his clawed, dragonborn hand upon the marble face of the rearing red dragon and casts 'Light' upon it. The dragon's snout shines with a brilliant glow, which distracts the shadowy figure, and masks the red glow emanating from the empty eye sockets, but fails to have any other dramatic effect.

The Shadow, looking to avoid the bright light now shining on the shrine, chooses the next closest target -- Kelben. Now with lightning quickness, it darts at the gnome, phantom-like hands extended... it's grasp connects, and the rogue is overcome with a painful sense of decay as he is shocked with a heavy dose of necrotic damage (-11)... then immediately feels a hint of fatigue spread through his being and he physically becomes weaker as if drained of his very essence! (-1 Strength)
Ed, thankfully this does not have any mechanical affect on Kelben (as an 11 Strength is the functional equivalent of a 10), but here is how you can reflect the point loss on the character sheet:

You can either set the -1 in the 'Other Modifier' area, or enter "10" in the 'Override Score' area.[/ooc]
"Behind me!" Hargrem calls as he raises his shield defensively. He approaches the spirit, attempting to interject himself into the creatures focus, and, with a prayerful word, causes a flame-like radiance to crash down upon the shadowy creature. What sounds like an deep, haunting, scream is heard as the creature flinches back, just out of harm's way... but the cleric's plan of drawing attention to himself was most certainly effective!

Kelben, still shaking from the powerful sense of loss, actively disengages from the action and backs away to the far wall. Once "comfortably" out of range of the creature that violated him moments earlier, he fumbles for his bow and arrow with shaky hands, but eventually readies them for use.

Managing to intercede between he and his friends, the cleric sends another shot of radiant flame down upon the shadow creature. "Burn, baby, burn" he says to it and with a flick of his shield, holy flame descends upon it.
