Back together on the cliff
Re: Back together on the cliff
Thanks Mitch. Sorry folks, work yadda yadda, first time in my office in a couple days yadder...
I agree with the watch schedule.
So we're not going with the 'we took 'em on all by our lonesomes story'? Tbd says quietly to Vik. The whole thing was feckin scary I tell ya. But we got that hairs that's all that matters, I ain't on watch first? Good, Tub says as he gets something to eat then beds down in the lean to.

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Re: Back together on the cliff
To move things along I am going with the following watch
1. Sergius
2. Tub
3. Vik
4. Scythius
5. Johansen
6. Cilian & Osric
if you want it changed for the future let me know.
The rain begins coming down hard as your small group huddles under the quickly built lean to.
It does an admirable job trying to keep the weather out but the terrintal downpour is to much for the hastily build structure as water dripps through various openings in the palmetto roof.
Sleep is fitful for everyone in the damp and cold of the night and it is all each person can do to keep the fire going on their shift, yet everyone knows they cannot let it die as it is the only source of light and heat on this cold, wet, moonless and starless night.
Tub wakes up Vik for his shift and then huddles in next to the large osric trying to use the larger mans body to shield him from the drip drip of water falling from the ceiling.
Vik shuffles the coals to stoke the fire and throws on some small branches watching the flames dance and lick in the darkness. The steady hiss of rain drops falling on the outside edge of the fire that is not covered by the leanto is a steady and somewhat relaxing noise. He shakes his head trying to fight off the tiredness of exhaustion caused by a day of horror mixed with excitment.
His mind wanders to thoughts of giant wolves and centpede men.
Vik needs to roll 1d6.
1. Sergius
2. Tub
3. Vik

5. Johansen
6. Cilian & Osric

(Back before everyone turns in for the night)
Vik will hand two of the displacer beast hairs to Cilian, or one to him and one to another that volunteers to be a "hair carrier". He will carefully wrap up the lone single hair he kept in the cloth and put it back in his front pocket. "It'll be safe enough here in me pocket, of that you can be sure!" he offers his friend with a playful wink.

Viktor shrugs and reaches into his front pocket to grab the cloth that he carefully wrapped the displacer beast hairs in. "I found them on that gobby's spear tip there," he explains as he carefully unrolls the cloth to reveal their unusual bounty. "Mayhap, we should split these up and have three of us each hold onto one of the hairs. All we needed was one and that way, we aint got all our eggs in one basket, if'n you catch my drift?"Alethan wrote:While Viktor is telling his story, Cilian gets one of his candles out of his pack and lights it. He then takes one of his pieces of parchment and folds it into an envelope shape, sealing the folded edges with wax. Once it is ready, he'll ask Viktor for the three hairs so he can stow them safely in the envelope and seal it shut with wax to make sure they don't get lost.

Re: Back together on the cliff
The excitment and excersion of the day is to much for vik as he stares at the fire and its warmthon his face lulls him off into a daydream he fails to notice the 2 pairs of yellow eyes moving towards him until it is to late.
Vik falls backwards as the first of the giant reptiles springs at him from the darkness sinking its fangs into his shoulder. Vik lets out a blood curddling scream of terror that is cut short as the great snake wraps it's body around him.
It begins to squeeze, stronger than the arms of any man vik had ever met crushinghis chest and forcing the air from his lungs.
To Hit: [1d20] = 20
Damage : 1
Contsrict damage: [1d3] = 3
total: 4
The second snake strikes at the sleeping scy who is near the edge of the lean to sinking it's fngs into the neck of the helpless prone ranger it's powerful body, nothing more than 1 large muscle flips him over again and again as it curls around him.
[1d20] = 11
Damage :1
Constrict damage: [1d3] = 2
total :3
the rest of the group is awakened by vik's scream of terror and scramles trying to get to their feet, knocking down the lean to in the process.
Only scy and vik can act this round as everyone else wakes and scrambles for weapons.
Vik and scy are essentially pinned by the snakes and can attempt to break loose using bend bars/lift gates roll. Roll init for those 2 if they win they can attempt to break free before the automatic squeeze damage.

Initiative: [1d6] = 3
Bend Bars <= 13%: [1d100] = 2 <-- heck, yeah!
Enraged at being so rudely awoken, Scythius musters together all his strength and snaps free from the snakes clutches, but not until the crushing affect was felt.
He shakes off what he fears are broken ribs and quickly looks to locate his spear.

Viktor tries to muster his strength to fight against the snake's powerful constrictions...
Bend Bars/Lift Gates (10% chance) [1d100] = 60
... but to no avail. His eyes go wide as he realizes that he is pinned but also that he cannot take a breath!
OOC: Damage notated. It appears we lost initiative but I figured I'd make my BB/LG roll anyways. (Great roll, Dave!)

Re: Back together on the cliff
The 13' long constrictors continue to squueze their victims.
Scy thrashes and struggles as the snake squuezes tighter
Damage: [1d3] = 3
but manages to use his strenght to force the beast up and over his shoulders, dumping it on the ground as he rolls away gasping for air.
Vik is not so lucky.
As the seprent continues to squueze his ribs you hear a distinct crack like a dry twig breaking.
damage: [1d3] = 2
and his weak struggle looks to be little more that a siezure as his eyes bulge and face begins to turn purple.
Initiative, everyone can attack this round.
When attacking the one on Vik, only a small hand held weapon like a knife or dagger can be safely used, however the hit is automatic.
if you full out attack the one on him then there will be a chance the attack misses the snake and only damages vik or that some of the damage will transfer to him if you do hit the snake.
State which snake you are going after before your attack roll.
battle sheet updated. I will try to always keep it current on hp's and spells.

Scythius, absent a small, handheld weapon and not wanting to risk harming Vik, will attempt to seek revenge against the snake that initially held him bound. He carefully examines the snakes movements...
Long spear [1d20+1] = 18+1 = 19 [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2
Then lashes out, jabbing at the serpent with the tip of his elongated spear. He catches it, but curses the fact that it is only a nick.

The serpents are quicker than the party can react.
The one wrapped around vik continues to squeeze the yound brigand.
Damage: [1d3] = 3
Vik's eyes begin to grow glassy as he struggles less and less.
The other stikes out once againat scy, but this time the young ranger is prepared and fends off the fiend by slapping it in the head with the haft of his spear as it springs toward him.
Attack: [1d20] = 3
Vik can make his bend bars roll again and everyone else declare and roll your atacks.

the book says a bend bars lift gates roll is needed to break free.
I will say since you are helping you can roll bend barsas well and subtract 5 from your roll. I will also allow vik to subtrcat 5 from his roll this round as well. (thats 5 in favor of success)
Re: Back together on the cliff
Can I still attack with two daggers? I'll roll the one for damage, and let me know if I should go again.
Placing his dagger against the snake to saw into it and get it off his friend Tub exhorts him to fight back, c'mon Snapper, stay with us and fight this thing!
Dagger damage [1d4+1] = 2+1 = 3
Oh my for the macro! Lucky we didn't need a to hit roll!

You can roll for the 2nd dagger, but damage is at -1. Still no to hit needed.

If you use the hammer against Vik, there is a good chance you will also damage him as only daggers, knives, small hand held bladed weapons can be used safely.
So I will assume you help Scy, if you want to change that let me know.

Round 2
Vik's eyes begin to grow glassy as he struggles less and less and the serpent continues to squeeze the life from him.
The other stikes out once against scy, but this time the young ranger is prepared and fends off the fiend by slapping it in the head with the haft of his spear as it springs toward him.
Osric follows up with a mighty swing at the same target but misses slamming his hammer into the mud.
Sergius grabs the head of the reptile squeezing vik, the head is large enough to fill both his hands with room to spare, and he begins trying to pry it off of is dieing friend.
Cilian not knowing what else to do sinks one of his darts between the scales of the great serpent causing it to squeeze even tighter.
Cursing Johansen pulls his skinning knife from its sheath and runs the edge along the body of the snake opening up a long gash, but even this fails to force the creature to let go of its victim.
Just as Viktors body stops struggling and is eyes begin to close for would appear to be the final time, Tub rushes in a dagger in each hand.
he buries the first into the body of the serpent at and angle, and then noticing sergius finally able to pry the mouth out of Viks soulder and away from his body, Tub slams his last dagger home underneath the snakes maw and it exits through the top of its head.
With all resistance gone sergius is able to wrench the creature off of his freind and Vik begins weazing, gasping, and coughing as his oxygen deprived lungs are able to once again expand. He rolls to his knees trying to catch his breath and fight through the seering pain of shattered ribs.
Suddenly the parties attention is drawn to the serpent still facing down Osric and Scy.
The molted green patterns on the creatures body suddenly begin to glow an erie blue illuminating the pattern in the near darkness for all to make out.
It is a familar pattern to all, the same pattern as seen on the tatooes of the Death Mongers.
Suddenly the creature explodes in a flash of blue light spraying bits of blood, guts, and bone everywhere.
Osric and Scy being nearest to it are hit by the flying scrapnel.
