Able was sleeping well, having recently confessed about his physically abusive father, his feeling of powerlessness at the situation, and his desire to help the weaker find comfort and peace, when the sniffers started wrecking the campsite. He sighs heavily and nods at Pendleton's suggestion. Yeah. Let's hope their noses don't turn 'em away from the charred remains of their pals from yesterday. Then maybe we use one of yer Webs t'act like a door on the cave? Maybe we can get some more shut eye.

He casts Augery to determine if the plan will work a second time. Then second guesses the answer, wondering if it isn't just his preconceived notions.

- could we have had the Cleric take our collected treasure back to town for us? Chameleon hide and 45 EPs from the goblins.
- Would locate object work on the demon gate if we are close enough? Or does Able need a visual image in his head, rather than a vague "portal-like" image? Or do I need to find that out IC?

"I am a certifiable fool," declares Pendleton. "Had I thought of setting defensive webbings yesterday, we wouldn't be in this fix right now. Good idea, but I am chagrined that I did not think of it."

Edit: That advanced kind of quickly. Although I do appreciate moving things forward, what with the Christmas deadline. But I wasn't sure yet whether Pendleton agreed with Able to wait another day.

Would it be possible to take some actions in the day that just passed? Casting web to act as a door might be too much, since Rusty just suggested it and I didn't think about it, but that would be great if we could. Pendleton would also like to make more people invisible if possible. And if Able wants to try to send loot to town, maybe our envoy could bring back some more healing potions, or dungeoneering gear?

The envoy is NOT at your disposal for loot or shop orders.

I don't understand what you're talking about with Augury.

If there's reasonable actions (like casting spells before sleeping), you can post them retroactively.

I was thinking of using Augery to find out hos a second attempt at filtering the sniffers into the pit trap would go. Having burned the last batch, I was wondering if the sniffers would be less likely to fall in.

As the spawn wreck the camp, Ablesforth falls silent, communing with his deity in prayer.

You realized that, yes, the chance of success is much less as the pit is full of screeching, no-longer-burnt demonspawn.

I assume that casting web on the stairs down and on the cave entrance is too ret-conny? If so, I don't think I actually have any spells from Pendleton to back-date. I could have him make some people invisible, but the day already passed without encounters by something that invisibility would help against, and the Templars seem likely to have to fight soon anyway.

And just to verify: would Webbing the sniffers break Pendleton's protection?

If cast on a creature, yes.
If webbing an area, anchored to walls (presumably before they entered it), no.

Gotcha. So, the 64 pp question: would we be able to get enough space between us and the sniffers for Pendleton to cast it on an area?

For that matter, are the sniffers separate enough from us at the moment that Pendleton could try to Web them without also getting ourselves caught?

There's no walls here. You could web one of them as an attack.

If you ran for the cave, you could web yourselves in before they caught you (that place has walls).

And then they'd be waiting for us when we returned (possibly heavily damaged and out of spells). Unless they wandered off to town instead.

Rusty, what are your thoughts? It doesn't look like we have a good way to take them out en masse.

Been a busy couple of days. Sorry.
Pendleton go inside the cave before us (if we ran interference) and cast the web on the ground.
Then we could herd them into it. But that only delays the inevitable. Maybe we could use it to help herd them into the pit?

"Okay, so let's do this. We run into the cave. Hopefully, we're faster than the sniffers. We get far in that I can cast a web on the sniffers. Then we can kill them with fire, missile weapons, and so forth. Acceptable?"

Able agrees to the plan. Yer intentions are to injure them, same as mine was yesterday. So yer warding'll disappear once you've cast the spells. We'll do our best t'act as barriers and keep you safe. Once you get 'em webbed up, we can deal with 'em. Maybe just dump 'em in the hole, too.
I know it didn't look promisin', but let's try roundin a few into the trap first.

to be clear: herd what we can into the trap. Then the Templars and Able will run interference a bit as Pendleton tries Webbing a group - while missing party members.

If it's possible, we could try running back out and web the entrance, causing them to get stuck in the cave.

I seem to be having trouble communicating this. You cannot web a group. You can web a location (with wall anchors, saves to avoid it if surprised by its appearance) or an individual (with a big glob and no save). Your plan is explicitly to web the entrance, not the sniffers, and hope they charge into it. Or, web the entrance to funnel them to the trap (save vs trap instead of web). If you web THEM, you will get one of them for sure, and no others.

Are there any trees around that Able can climb to get it of reach of the Sniffers? If so, he could cast Hold Person twice. Then roll them into the pit trap or what not.
