I think I have still not recovered from Dungeon\Dragon magazines going paperless. Maybe it is just me but I love to have a nice printed hard copy of periodicals/books, etc. I would gladly keep a digital copy for other purposes but I just have to also have the print version.

Maybe I am just broken.. :D

I am really happy to see them working on this project and I hope that it takes off!

I got this email just this morning:
It's been quite a wait, but it's finally time! The first issue of Gygax magazine will be unboxed at 2pm EST on Saturday, January 26th at The Brooklyn Strategist. We'll be streaming the unboxing live at GygaxMagazine.com for everyone who can't be in New York City that day.
As soon as the first box is opened, you'll be able to order single copies or subscriptions online. (And of course, we'll have them in the store as well.)

The staff of Gygax magazine, including Ernie Gygax, Luke Gygax, Tim Kask, Jayson Elliot, Jim Wampler, and James Carpio, will be online for a video Q&A. We'll have some other special guests that day as well.

After the unboxing, we'll keep the video running while we run gaming events all afternoon. There will be a limited number of online seats available to join the in-store games via the virtual tabletop Roll20. A followup email will be sent next week with a link to a form where you can sign up to play online.

Keep following us on Twitter and Facebook for more details as we get closer to the unboxing day! We'll be sending a followup email next week with details for anyone who wants to attend the event in person.

Mark your calendar:

Saturday, January 26th
2pm Eastern Standard Time
If I can get a subscription to the actual magazine delivered to my mail box, it will be like my subscription to Dragon oh so many years ago! I'm looking forward to this for sure!

Just saw this on the Gygax Magazine video announcement.

http://tsrgames.com/

Huzzah!!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

I just finished watching the live streaming session for Gygax Magazine with Tim, Jim, ernie and Luke. Pretty cool and now even more excited to see it.

Saw you post a few comments on there, Ron! 8-)

Has anyone gotten a copy of issue #1 yet? They changed my status to "shipped" six days ago but there's no tracking number to see where it's at, never mind the mag itself in my mailbox.

A video interview with Tim Kask here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkfGwfpGd4A

Luke Gygax will be coming on too, but Ernie's house just burned down... Terrible. Family before interviews, I'll let you guys know when he's due on the show.

I got an email from the magazine guys. They're working through some issues with their mailing process, which has led to some delayed deliveries. I'm ok with that. It's hard to handle it all as a small business, but it sounds like they're learning from their mistakes.

Supposedly, my copy is in the mail! Figures tomorrow is a holiday...

Got mine last week just before I departed to dundracon.

Although the post office bent mine up a bit, I really like it. There are some neat articles and many that checked it liked the one on the cosmology of role playing games with the awesome solar system style "game-tree" graphic. The artwork and Dragon mag-like cartoons are cool as well.

l set it out on the table in open gaming and a bunch of people checked it out. Some were 'meh' and others were really impressed. But everyone was curious and wanted to read it. I think the cover art was what got 'em! :)

Got my copy earlier this week. In a word...meh.

Most of the articles seem to be just old gamers pontificating about the good ol' days and how to revive the good ol' days, and how good it was in the good ol' days...you follow me?
They didn't even have enough filler to fill the mag - which IMO was mighty thin for 9 bucks! So, they let Wolfgang Baur toss in a few articles that would have gone in the winter issue of
Kobold Quarterly
(which shut down last fall). Seems this will be the norm for the foreseeable future.

Two articles which stood out for me were The Ecology of the Banshee and the little river village write up called Gnatdamp.

So...yeah...meh. I wasted 9 bucks. Lesson learned.
Winter is coming...

Most gaming magazines, heck any magazines, are usually very crappy until the authors and editors find their center and the mag becomes what it is supposed to be. Just look at Dragon Magazine and compare the first couple of years until they solidified their format. Casus Belli, the best French gaming magazine that ever existed looked like a sh*tty fanzine in the beginning.

So I would counsel some leniency in the forthcoming reviews. Let's not drown the baby even before it is swaddled in blankets.

Note I am not putting in question hedgeknight's feel that the mag seemed pretty useless and over expensive, buy I wouldn't discount the whole publication just on account of a single first issue.

Btw, I haven't actually seen this magazine so I may talking out of my arse here. It may well be the magazine is so bad than anyone touching it will feel compelled to never but another issue again or even spend money on any product released in the future by anyone associated with it. In that case: drown the abomination in the bathtub post-haste! :)

For those that have seen it what about the art? Does it have cool art?

I STILL haven't received my print copy of the mag. I have the PDF, but I'm holding out on reading it because of the principal that I paid for a PRINT version that I can take to lunch, have at the gaming table, and most importantly, read while I'm in the 'smallest room' in the house. :) Anyway, I've emailed them and as far as I'm concerned, they've lost a future customer. They seem to be really fraking this thing up. I worked print and print fulfillment for years (and years) and it's not hard. Meh!

Jerks!

Well, it could be the PO, in which case there's no way for me to know/check and I guess it will arrive at some time. I shamed them on Twitter and got a quick response. They said it went out 10 days ago, which, if it is being shipped 2nd class from the east coast it may take that long. They could also be lying. Either way, based on this and what others have said, I'm over it.

That is pretty ridiculous. They took forever to deliver mine and I still got it weeks ago.

I'm in for the full four issue subscription so I've got fingers crossed that this is more growing pains and less general incompetence.

Well, I got mine. Autographed too.
Tim, Jim, Ernie, Luke and many others I cant think of right now, autographed it for me too.
Ill try and update the names later.
As for enough filler, I do know that Tom Wham's submission didnt make it in, accidentally. Learning curve Im sure.
