Retrieve a deleted character?
Retrieve a deleted character?
I recently F-d up and deleted an active character by mistake. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Did you delete the PC in the dice roller or was it a post here on the forums?

It was in the dice roller. If it can't be retrieved, no biggie.

I'm sorry to say but it can't be retrieved if you've deleted it in the dice roller.

Re: Retrieve a deleted character?
However if it was archived on the roller there is a way to retrieve it.
Question to ToniXX since you have a way of the roller to return archived characters (PCs) how complicated would it be to have something similar for accidental deleted ones going forward?

Good point. Archiving a PC is different from deleting it.GreyWolfVT wrote:However if it was archived on the roller there is a way to retrieve it.

Adding a feature to undelete deleted PCs could be done, but would need changes to the database. And until now it hasn't been a problem.

Re: Retrieve a deleted character?
True. I just figured it was worth a mention. Even if it was a "deleted items" or "trash" that had them for a set period of time before it empties itself out to save on space so forth. Figured it could be worth mentioning it may have been a prior issue that nobody was overly concerned about to mention here.ToniXX wrote:Good point. Though if the character sheet was posted in a forum you generally can still get the information off it or so I have found. Though I haven't tried this for something I deleted as of recently.

Re: Retrieve a deleted character?
I'd be surprised if that works. Sheets posted in the forum are just links to the sheets on the dice roller. When the dice roller sheet goes, so does the link in the forums. Unless the sheet gets cached in your browser for some reason.GreyWolfVT wrote:Though if the character sheet was posted in a forum you generally can still get the information off it or so I have found. Or, heck, I could test it. Here's my new freelance PC, Donnie Doomed-to-Die, Level 0 Redshirt:

Having linked to the sheet and displayed it in my browser, I'll delete him...
...and the sheet link is gone.
Poor guy didn't even last as long as a PC in one of dmw71's my games.
GreyWolfVT, I suspect what you're seeing remain in the forums are archived characters instead of deleted ones.
Edit: Fixed that for me.

Re: Retrieve a deleted character?
OK. I figured I'd screwed myself on this one. No problem, and thanks for the quick response.

Re: Retrieve a deleted character?
I was going to suggest a Delete confirmation message, which would be good standard UX for deleting something, but I just deleted a test character and we already have one, so...
That won't work.
