Already knowing he would only be able to fire off those first two shots safely, Yosef quickly slings his bow, draws his longsword and slides down the rope to help his mates. He'll move immediately into melee, looking to do what he can...

To Hit: Longsword [1d20+1] = 8+1 = 9 (hits AC9), Damage: sm/med sized creatures [1d8] = 6

To Hit: Longsword [1d20+1] = 3+1 = 4 (miss), Damage: sm/med sized creatures [1d8] = 7

To Hit: Longsword [1d20+1] = 10+1 = 11 (hits AC7) , Damage: sm/med sized creatures [1d8] = 6

OOC: Ron, not sure if Yosef could get all three of those attacks in with the entirety of the other above actions, but rolled them anyways. (Not like it would likely matter, anyhow!)
I'll head over and update character sheet!

Day 19 – 8:52 a
Round 2

.

As Bruard and Yosef get off the wall, the rats are pretty quick this round, but Jeloon and Yosef are not outmatched. Rats won initiative.

Jeloon is able to slay two of the rats swarming her, while Yosef trying to jump and hit misses a rat.

In a flurry of attacks, one rat is able to get fangs on Jeloon and one on Till. The damage is minor, but the fangs the party already knows to be deadly. 2 HPs total to Jeloon, and 2HPs to Till. Both of you need saves vs poison please..

Then the party springs into further action. Till is able to handily dispatch a rat. Bruard, executing a difficult to pull off leaping mace maneuver, crushes the skull of another. Van, not missing the fun, is able to spear an kill yet another rat!

Yosef misses again but is finally able to connect with one, killing it. While Jeloon has some difficulty and misses both swipes of her magic sword.

Only three rats remain among their slaughtered cousins. Inconceivably they don’t run and continue to attack.

Round 3. Initiative needed for Till and Bruard, only one initiative, sorry for the confusion. Jeloon still attacks twice at the beginning of the round and twice at the end. Yosef attacks at beginning, on initiative and at end. I do need Jeloon and Till to make saving throws, but they can still attack. Everyone else attacks on initiative.

Bruard swings his mace yet again, most likely missing this time:

Mace to-hit [1d20] = 4 damage (sm/m) [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7

Rats are still rather quick, but Jeloon and Yosef are still quicker and put an end to this group of rats. Rats actually won initiative.

Jeloon and Till don’t seem to feel any different for the wounds they took last round. You are here:

Till quickly examines his wound, washing it out as best he can before applying a bit of the ointment from the druid to it. Then he does the same to Jeloon.

"Bloody rats... Let's get to that building and end this!"

After everyone is ready, Till once again leads them towards the temple, following along the base of the wall.

As soon as the rats are dispatched, Yosef sheaths his sword and quickly makes ready with his bow, nocking an arrow and looking about for danger.

When the others have finished applying the special ointment and prepare to move out, the elf takes up his position next to Van and makes ready to proceed with the mission. "Ready here."

Day 19 – 9:05 a

.

Till and Jeloon was out their wounds and apply the ointment. The jar is small, and it looks like it can be used maybe two more times. But both of you feel great, and your wounds seem to be completely healed!

You quickly move forward. Making good time over the 650' to get to the temple, but what gets you this time is the absolute absence of any living creatures. Including rats. There's an occasion bird patrol overhead, but no more attacks.

As you near the temple you see that this building is tall, it certainly resembles a temple, but no obvious markings or statues are evident. You can't see any entrances from the back, but stealing around front (and looking from afar) you can see a wide set of stairs lead up almost ten feet to a massive pair of stone doors. The doors don't look sealed as they are open enough for man to enter. Tall, smooth columns surround the outer wall on all sides of the building, some of them have fallen along the eastern wall, though the wall there looks sturdy and intact. A tall, steep pitched roof is made of black slate. There are no windows and only the stone doors to the south look to give access to the building’s interior.

Bruard sets his pack down and fishes out his hooded lantern. He lights it, closes the hood, then puts his shield on his back. I'll open the lantern when we get inside.

Yosef keeps his arrow nocked and ready and makes an intensive visual reconnoiter of the surrounding area and slice, wanting to be sure that there are no other visible threats or danger. "Well, that was around thirty giant rats by my count. I wonder how many more there are?"

Once the party regroups, and Bruard is making ready with his lantern, the elf will make sure that the Wand of Fire is ready in his belt line and that his new scrolls are quickly accessable. He'll continue to keep his bow and arrow to hand while watching the party's perimeter.

Till steps back, attempting to not appear worried, but possibly failing... somewhat. He draws his sword and dagger and crouches low, facing the door.

"A score of giant rats quickly headed this way with one rat king sitting on the throne," he manages to casually say.

"Let's hold them at the door, then, shall we?"

They're going to quickly bottleneck at the door opening. Argennian, as soon as they do, care to use one of your wand charges to do the Burning Hands in a 10' wide path that is 12' long? I'd imagine that could hit up to 12 or more rats, if they're all choked up at the doorway.

That appears to be one of our only AOE options available.

Otherwise, it's going to be trying to hold them at the door, hoping we don't get overrun before we can kill them all.

Other ideas? We're going to have very little time to react, though.

"Let's hold them at the door, then, shall we?"
"Sitting on a throne? Why does that sound too damn easy?" postulates Yosef aloud in a tone of almost disbelief as he turns to see Till making ready at the door. He quickly envisions stepping through the door and fireballing the wererat whilst he sits on the throne. Regardless, quickly responding to Till's query, the elf replies, "Should we try and shut the door to block them further or contain them? If we cannot, Jeloon and I can hold the line!"

He quickly slings his bow and draws both his longsword and the Wand of Fire...

OOC: Ron, before Yosef commits to any other particular action (other than changing weapons and readying his wand that is), he's wondering about the feasibilty of being able to attempt to shut the doors or at least close them somewhat - What direction do the doors open/close?

(I was thinking if they opened outward, perhaps we could try and shut them if so. Not that they aren't already jammed open or are too heavy to move quickly but Yosef wants to try and deduce this quickly, if possible)

OOC: Al: agreed that the Burning Hands (1 charge) function of the Wand of Fire would be a pretty good application here and thought about using that very application. Only drawback is that, with only 2 charges left, we would no longer have Fireball or Wall of Fire capability available. (Not that that is gonna make me lock up and start having a tantrum or anything)

Another idea: seeing as we only have 2 more applications of the magical ointment, if the two most powerful fighters (perhaps Jeloon & Yosef since they get multiple attacks?) stand just outside the doorway, they could hopefully contain the rats coming out. Van could also attack from the 2nd rank with his spear without taking too much of an immediate risk while Till & Bruard were there to tackle ones that make it by, fill the slot if one of them (ie-Yosef!) falls?

Otherwise, depending on the other's thoughts, Yosef is willing to either stand with his sword by Jeloon (for the extra attacks) or use the wand.
