Ok, so...Sleep one, Charm one, fight 2?
Silent watches them approach, his fingers restless on his bowstring. He looks to the sword and then to the others, a question in his eyes.

"Shouldn't we try to reason with them?"
Corbin interjects nervously.
"I'm not sure this is a fight we can win."
There must be one of us with somewhat decent charisma, no sure thing that they would understand us. But I am less than confident with our chances against four ogres.

Markd shakes his head.
I ain't able to get a rat to come to me if I gave him a hunk a cheese. We'll have to fight if they keep coming.

Silent is well, silent.
He has a charisma of 7. Plus the speech thing. He's no ambassador of good will.

I would think Charisma is one attribute every PC would quickly know about the others, just by interacting and revulsing. Markd's is considerably lower than that 7.

Corbin's charisma is poor. An attempt to treat would most likely make them hostile. Maybe he should try making them mad, and his poor charisma would have the opposite effect.
Re: Expedition - Corbin/Caravan Site- 01 May 2021
I think we talked about this back when Fingers was barking orders and determined that we all have really low charisma scores. The ogres would probably attack us as soon as look at us.

I think we're in for it whatever we do. I don't see us talking a group of ogres down.

Yes. And like Fingers said, even if they do decide to wander off, we can't be sure they aren't going to come back with heavier forces.
We might be able to buy them off with beer, but you'll never hear Fingers suggest that.
If we can charm one and sleep another one, that's all of us against two ogres. We might be able to win that.

Didnt sirravd say he had two Charms memorized? Can he charm more than one? Like, one the first round, one the second? We might only have to fight the one?

Charisma: You are a sincerely disagreeable bunch. Every one of you has a disposition penalty except Carchannoi, who has a silver-tongue and a bonus. Markd makes you all look like charmers, though, inspiring revulsion at a mystical level.
Baxtaw moves off to the side, his spell ready. With the torches and campfire both, it doesn't help his infravision but does give him a different angle of fire. Silent and Fingers, both on watch and in their armor, crouch behind the cart with longbows. Corbin rises and gets his armor on, taking up his spear. The others rouse, evaluating the situation. The group whispers fervently - will someone try to talk to them, can spells be used, do we fire?
The ogres decide first, their appearance revealed as they begin to charge with torches aloft. With a bellowing roar, one bass and one alto, the larger two charge the campsite. They hold the torches in one hand with two-handed swords wielded one-handed in the other, running straight at the cart, Silent, and Fingers, the other two ogres right behind them.
(Actions? Initiative, spell rolls, and attack rolls, please.)

Re: Expedition - Corbin/Caravan Site- 01 May 2021
Seeing the ogres rushing towards the cart Silent steps back from it a few feet, scooping up his sword. He doesn't want to be behind it when the weight of the ogres hits. He holds the pommel of his sword to his lips and whispers softly to it once again.
Initiative [1d6] = 4
Silent will cast Sleep on one of the ogres.
Edit: in my haste I rolled initiative - wasn't this game a group initiative intended to be rolled by the leader of the expedition? If so, my bad. Had I remembered I would have not done that. As it is, a 4 ain't bad... feel free to disregard.

I think it's all good. Marullus is using the initiative method Keehnelf used, where we get one non-leader roll then the leader decides if he can do better.
Marullus: is there anywhere for Fingers to try to hide in the shadows? Or is his location now too obvious to attempt that?

Hide would be needed last round, like Baxtaw. Now they are charging your position.
Re: Expedition - Corbin/Caravan Site- 01 May 2021
"Crap crap crap," says Fingers. "Sprinkles, defend!" he commands. He lets loose an arrow that grazes an ogre's shoulder.
'Silmaril' (THAC0 19): [1d20+3] = 19+3 = 22, [1d8+1] = 1+1 = 2

Corbin braces his spear to receive a charge.
Attack with Spear: [1d20] = 10
May as well stick with Zorroroaster's initiative

Markd attempts a sling shot from the side, since they werent running toward him.
sling shot [1d20] = 4 ; dam [1d4] = 4
He can only hope it is so bad a shot that they didnt notice where it came from.

Carchannoi casts Charm Person once, on the remaining ogre; if Silent's Sleep spell failed, it will cast another Charm Person on that ogre too.
Re: Expedition - Corbin/Caravan Site- 01 May 2021
With a bellowing roar, one bass and one alto, the larger two ogres charge the campsite. They hold the torches in one hand with two-handed swords wielded one-handed in the other, running straight at the cart, Silent, and Fingers, the other two ogres right behind them.
Fingers commands his dog to defend and looses an arrow, the shot grazing the shoulder of the largest ogre, the one bellowing with a bass voice as it charges at the forefront. Markd looses a sling stone wide of the targets and unnoticed by the charging ogres.
Silent murmurs to himself, sword in hand. The second ogre - charging in the front rank and drawing attention with her alto bellowing - stumbles and falls to the ground, resting on her back and mouth agape. Carchannoi charms the ogre in the left rear rank; a smaller one than those in the front with clear female build and the awkwardness of adolescence. She stops abruptly, blinking, then bends down at the side of the ogre who just fell to make sure she's okay. Baxtaw, observing from the side and so with an unimpeded view of the back rank, chooses the right rear ogre as his target. A flash of bluish light erupts from his fingers, sailing through the air and hitting her squarely - another awkward adolescent ogre highlighted by the flash and a cry of pain.
The largest ogre reaches the firelit circle, his bellow unabated, his torch and sword both in his hands. Sprinkles barks fiercely, warning the ogre away from the cart and his master behind it. The ogre glances down at the dog, which throws off his step. He tries to swing his sword but trips over the small hound, stumbling forward and catching his thigh on Corbin's braced spear instead, ending on his knees. The fourth ogre (who got hit by the magical blast) reaches the cart and grabs one of the barrels of beer. Seeing the largest ogre go down, she turns to defend him, lashing out with a booted foot at Sprinkles to keep him at bay.
