Still unsure of what the heck is going on (tm) Nayman has no intent of getting near the portal at this time.

The next few minutes leaves the group split as Darius finds himself on the mountainside, soon followed by Benson, Hedges and Thor'ar.
Back in the Inn, Nellsir 'orders' Branc, who is very near the deceased wizard, not to move from the stage. He then commands the crowd to stay at the doorway as they try to come in.
"Word to the Council. Go. Inform them they are requested for an emergency meeting here at the Inn. Bid them come quickly. Keep the crowd out."
The city guardsmen who was first at the door turns to fight his way back but realizes his position allows him no movement and he relays the order to those behind him. Outside, echoing voices can be heard calling for the Council's presence.
Jacob stands at the balconey, looking over everything as Nayman, Abriago and Skuzz are asked not to leave.
The Captain continues.... "Sorry, Master Mechinstein, but the auction is over........and I want answers. Where is Gungdig?"
Gold pieces litter the surroundings as the Captain kneels to one of his fallen comrades to see if he has indeed 'fallen'.

Fresh reset coming.....Darius and Thorar have seats if they like.....
a new group of 4 will be sent to Iuz to assist them.

If you still want in, just say something to Captain Nellsir and he will let you in....he provides Skuzz with ship passage back to wherever the halforc war veteran was going.....(Nellsir feels that Skuzz has earned retirement if he wants it...having been a pow for 6 years)

(ie.....Jacob, Branc, Nayman ....you volunteering to go thru the portal once arrangements are made? Nellsir wouldnt blame any if your character doesnt want to go)

Thorar would like that? Like what? He is in the evil infested land of Iuz now.....not much there he is going to enjoy.
He and Darius should be posting in the thread called..."Out thru the Inn Door"......
Eleven days, no posts from anyone inside the Inn? :?:
No ideas?, No suggestions? No nothing?

The Captain tells Branc to "...surrender the djinn's prison vessel to the council reps when they arrive".
He does not seem to be immediately interested in the staff that the Mage has acquired. With a wink, Branc gets the feeling that Nellsir is trusting of the wizard and that he may be leaving the staff out of his report, perhaps as reward for his quick-thinking and bravery.
Nellsir has already read the full file report about Skuzz. He knows practically nothing about the others. He has his assistant question and take notes on Branc, Nayman and Jaboc...(Full name, land of origin, destinations, useful skills,etc....) while the captain makes his room recon. The hatch in the floor is raised and Basher's location is found. Nellsir arises from the holding area carrying the bleeding, yet lifeless body of the gnome. "Make way!!! Make way!
Upon the sight of another dead body, Abriago begins to get fidgety in his seating and demands that he be released from any questioning. Nellsir concedes.
"Very well. Let him leave. He did nothing to hinder, nor help."

ooc....Let me know if your statements to the stenographer are true or untrue.

Branc answers truthfully, but vaguely.

Basher's body remains motionless. Nellsir quickly stands to attention as the Captain of the City Watch arrives. Before his initial scan of the room, the newly arrived officer begins to question Nellsir. "Come now Nellsir. Really? An emergency meeting of the ...", then First Captain Major Harris Thornstone drops a jaw and raises a brow as he notices the portal, three lifeless bodies, the surrounding debris and all souls present, "...Oh my. Mmm, good work. Any immediate recommendations?". Thornstone takes the reports and goes to the doorway of the now heavily guarded tavern inn and says to the watch outside, "The Mayor should be along any second now. Do not allow anyone else in until after Nerof Gasgal gets here." Thornstone turns back to Nellsir, "He is not going to be pleased, I can tell you that much."
Nellsir tries to interupt in his own defense but is cutoff mid-sentence each time, as Thornstone shouts out orders that Nellsir has already relayed before the First Captain's arrival. All present get the feeling that, in this instance, Nellsir would be more suited to be First Captain, instead of Thornstone. Finally, Nellsir has a chance to speak and says, with as much respect as his patience will allow him, "First Captain Sir. Allow the clerics of St. Cuthbert to enter and tend here to the injured and deceased?"
Then Thornstone repeats that order too, also as if his own idea.

Nayman will answer the questioning truthfully *except* in what pertains to his reasons for being in Greyhawk and his mode of entry in the city, he will try to bullsh*t his way out of that.

Remember Nayman has the "Glibness" trait.

Nayman

Name & Homeland? - give out the true ones
Business in Gryehawk? - curiosity, desire to "see the world" coupled with checking out employment possibilities
Useful Skills? (oh sh*t!) - tries to pass for a former militia "scout" back home

The reset has begun. The action is officially moving to the thread entitled "Out thru the Inn Door".
The emergency meeting of the Greyhawk Public Council begins and the players are brought in, one by one to give their perpectives. Later, the players are each offered lucrative chances to further their 'careers' in the Gem of the Flannes, in one form or another.
Skuzz is offered, and accepts an entry position within the Hardby Marines.
Nayman mentioned that his skills include scouting. He is first offered a position in the militias scouting the Wild Coast.
Jacob is offered a one year, probationary, all expenses paid, attendance to the Bard College.
Branc is offered a 4yr work/study seat at the Wizard's University.
Each of you are given their respective choices, followed closely by the following.
".....that is, unless you would be inclined to volunteer for the Iuzen expedition."

Skuzz declines the trip to Iuz. (unless there is some freak luck and Shonuff returns)

Those who wish to continue, I must ask, commit themselves to a faster, more detailed, pace in their posts.
January 10th is the deadline before I/we begin.

I am just unsure about one thing: what is the ultimate goal of the expedition through the portal? What are we supposed to do in the land of Iuz?

thats two things.....
ultimate goal of the expedition? the council is not exactly sure of the portal's device.
many goals are given/suggested.....rescue/reinforce the others, make sure the portal is no threat to greyhawk, survey the military potential of using the portal, a couple others to be mentioned later......

what are we supposed to do in Iuz?.....(my money would be on finding your place in the food chain)

ooc: I just saw the warning on the recruiting thread. Nayman is up for it. I was assuming the GM would be posting a new Action Thread for the expedition or inserting us into the one on the Iuz lands.

The council informs you, and whoever is going thru the portal with you, that the disc that opened to Iuz doesnt appear to be a two-way portal (or Darius, Thorar, Benson and Hedges would have came back already). They study the other discs and indeed there is a painting of the front of the Inn of the Unseen Servant. This disc is entrusted to Branc, as a ticket home. However, he and the others are 'commanded' to use it safely. "DO NOT GIVE IUZ A DOORWAY TO GREYHAWK".The decision to give your group the disc was highly debated. But you are instructed to find a safe place to use it. Preferrably, making your way to a friendly land , such as Furyondy, Nyrond, Verbobonc, Urnst or Veluna before using. The command word is given to Branc alone. The other discs are taken away. Branc has the staff. (Staff of Striking let me know if you need the stats for it.)
After almost an hour and a half the portal begins to slowly diminish, and within 90 minutes of the gate opening, you find yourself on the other side. Better equipped and a little better informed.
"Do not allow Iuz forces to get this disc. Our forces will be mustered here in case something goes wrong. Good Luck and Tidings of St. Cuthbert be with you."

Darius is hoping someone brings him his gear from his room.
And maybe a few hundred healing potions.

And some magic stuff that shoots fire.

Nayman will ask for a backpack, travel supplies and standard adventuring gear (rope, torches, etc). A suit of armor wouldn't hurt either (the guy has literally nothing except for his swords).

What is the best armor Thieves can use in AD&D2nd? Studded Leather?

Darius' belongings are gathered and handed to Nayman. Thorar's equipment is given to Agrim. "Thor'ar the dwarf and Brother Maynard probably need these."
Mountaineering gear is also given to the group on a hunch that the other side does in fact lead to a mountainous region, as suggested. Branc, Garth, Agrim and Nayman prepare to step thru the portal.

Last chance for dialogue with Gryhawk.

ooc:leather armor is the best he can use without any penalty to skill checks
