Re: Action Thread #5 - The Plains
Day 3 - Afternoon - Grassy Plain/The Lake Fortress
Entering the room and flanking the racks of fish Ogirdor manages to gain a better sight of its forward-left corner. The indentation on the ceiling is clearly a trapdoor. Propped against the corner of the wall is a pair of wooden stairs, obviously designed to access it. Next to it is what appears to be a normal-sized wooden locker.
Meanwhile...
Stonjuz takes a peak down the stairs. As Andrin before him he cannot see the bottom of it, his infravision not having enough time yet to adjust.
Derived Roll: [1d100] = 25
But his dwarven sight serves him well still. On the first step down the stairs he notices thin, metallic-looking string strung across from wall to wall just inches above the ground.

Re: Action Thread #5 - The Plains
Stonjuz begins his sentence while looking at the trip wire, then turns to Andrin, and then to the rest of the group.
"Don't take another step!!! There. Just like I said 'fore, us dwarves be making traps since, well, you know, way back,.... tripwire,...... tripwire, everyone. Malone, Oz,......"
The dwarf waves his hand in front of the human's face.
"Oz....OZ!!! Snap out of it man."

Ogirdor will check if it is possible to move/push the racks until one or more are immediatelly beneath the trapdoor, in order to block the way down.

Re: Action Thread #5 - The Plains
Thurinor squats down and squints in an attempt to examine the tripwire. He feels the irresistable urge to pull on it and see what happens, but he pulls his hand back at the last moment before touching it. "I wonder, does it only serve as tripwire, or does it trigger some worse machination?" He looks over at the trapdoor as if gauging its possible uses and decides to stand in the doorway to ensure it stays open.

Re: Action Thread #5 - The Plains
"That is probably not too hard to tell", says Andrin who kneels down besides Thurinor. "I have by no means any thief skills, but it should be easy to see if the wires are only nailed or somehow fastened to the stair, or if they actually disappear in it or into the wall where they might be connected to some mechanism." Looking closer, Andrin tries to find out what is the case here.
Re: Action Thread #5 - The Plains
Oz turns his head in an attempt to use the light to reveal the location of the tripwire. "I'll do what I can to help you find the mechanism the wire is attached to, Andrin." Being cautious, he moves close to the wire and follows it's path to try to understand how to disarm the trap.

Andrin readily moves aside to make room for Oz, who is better suited for this kind of job.

Thurinor smiles but his voice betrays a quaver of anxious anticipation: "Suddenly, fellows, I do not appreciate being in this space. Can the tripwire be disarmed, Oz?"

Oz shrugs. "All I can do is try," he replies. "Everyone should stay back. I don't know what might happen." Oz turns back to the wire and carefully goes about disarming the trap.
Re: Action Thread #5 - The Plains
"Wait a minute. Wait just a minute. I dont wanna be ANYWHERE near this step, slab, square, thing."
Stonjuz backs up significantly."I'll be right over here if'n ya gets in trouble."
He retreats to a position where he can see both Oz and Ogirdor.

Barely containing the hysterical laughter rising in his throat, Thurinor backs away with Stonjuz. "This should be the best thing that's happened yet today...well, maybe not better than being attacked by spitting lizards...and Og falling in a hole was...well, it was unfortunate, but in a fortunate kind of way..." He checks his crossbow nonetheless, in case it needs using in the very near future.

Andrin retreats from the stairs as well, but remains at the top to see what happens.

Overhearing this the ranger raises an eyebrow and grumbles "Your concern for me is truly moving."ragnboneshopper wrote: ...and Og falling in a hole was...well, it was unfortunate, but in a fortunate kind of way..."

Malone stays by the door, shortsword prepares. He didn't like enclosed spaces, not enough room to manuever. There was always a wall in the way.

Day 3 - Afternoon - Grassy Plain/The Lake Fortress
Ozborn gets his tolls out and sets to work out in the metallic wire going from wall to wall.
[1d100] = 95
Alas, his hands disturb whatever balances and tensions where holding an equilibrium in the whole set, and it does what he was designed to do by whomever set it here originally...it activates!
There is a mechanical sound coming from somewhere down the stairs and a twang! noise followed almost simultaneously by the Wooosh! of something crossing the air at high velocity from the dark below.
ThacO Roll: [1d20] = 12
Ozborn shouts as he feels a sharp, sudden pain on his upper chest.
Damage: [1d4+1] = 3+1 = 4
And as he reels back by the force of the blow his companions can see a crossbow bolt has driven deep into the poor rogue.

"Damnation!" Thurinor steps forward and pulls Ozborn back out of the room, leaving the fighters to cover in case anything fearsome appears to answer this second doorbell. He looks to Stonjuz with crazed alarm. "Can you do anything for him?" He leaves one arm around the thief to steady him and keeps his crossbow at the ready.

Quickly as possible, the dwarven cleric readies a healing spell for the injury incurred. "Now this may hurt a bit. Pull the bolt out as I cast my spell. Ready? Oz, need something to bite on? Dont think I would want to have my wounds closed in around a metallic stick either."

Re: Action Thread #5 - The Plains
Oz winces in pain as Thurinor drags him from the stairwell. After Thurinor puts him down he looks at the crossbow bolt protruding from his shoulder and smiles slightly. "I told you I was gonna disarm that trap," he says with a nervous chuckle. A look of nausea washes over his face and he swallows deeply before speaking again. "I'll just close my eyes for a minute while you guys do what you gotta do."

Re: Action Thread #5 - The Plains
At Stonjuz's suggestion that someone needs to pull the bolt from Oz's shoulder, Thurinor eyes the protruding shaft, licks his lips, laughs nervously, and says, "Andrin, this perhaps is more along the lines of your expertise to help? I mean, I could do it, but maybe my bedside manner is not up to the level of your own..." In case no one else is willing and it becomes necessary, Thurinor prepares mentally for the deed, not so much steeling himself as finding a mental state in which the pulling of a foreign object out of a friend's body becomes a fascination.
