The Alchemist Lab
Re: The Alchemist Lab
"The metal insect is no doubt in my mind one of the Alchemist's creations. If he was not expecting a visiting group of this size, the bug could be warning him of potential danger now. I would do the same to protect a lab under my control. So long story short," the gnome bows to the side of the entrance and extends his arms to the entrance, "muscle first?" Ruken cannot help but smile deviously.

Re: The Alchemist Lab
Ruken looks up at the sky and notices that there isn't too much light left. The sun is now setting and being covered by the mountainous landscape (looking at picture for reference). "Well, I certainly wouldn't want to be a rude guest," the gnome says in a half-sarcastic tone as he rolls his eyes and turns to look out in the distance. "If you think it best to wait outside for the Alchemist, we can wait Craxzus; but if that be the case, I would like to find a nice big clearing and set up camp, especially if waiting for him takes longer than say a half hour... It's getting dark you know, and nasty things like to come out in the dark."

Eirenaios stares at the entrance then back at the group confused, "Ummmm......it's not even his land to begin with tho.....if he is okay with taking this dwarven ruin as his own private lab I would say hid receptivity for rudeness should be high, but", he yawns, "I am quite tired, and a short sleep would do me good"

Craxzus- Peers into the hallway that metal bug entered. I say we follow the bug. We will do so cautiously.

"Okay then, we have a plan of action!" Ruken says enthusiastically. "Please, after you all."
The gnome waits by the entrance and watches the dwarves eagerly with a wide smile, for he is certainly not going to take the lead into an unknown dwarven ruin that may or may not have active traps and monsters lurking about.

Re: The Alchemist Lab
You enter the tunnel and the dwarves immediately notice the sturdy construction of the walls and supports. This structure was meant to endure the rigors of time. A set of parallel mine tracks stretch out into the darkness. They are oiled and well maintained.
You follow the clitter-clatter of the metallic bug north, deeper into the mine, losing the remaining light of the setting sun streaming from the entrance, as you reach the first side passage going east. Tracks continue down both tunnels but the bug continues north.

Thorgrim stops at the intersection and looks east trying to gauge what might be down that corridor.

Re: The Alchemist Lab
Eirenaios ponders, "He saved my life....indirectly though, good or bad.....", he turns to Craxzus, "What's your take on the situation?"
He wonders if it's a trap, "The strange contraption doesnt seem to have even noticed nonetheless leading us somewhere, and if we get lost in these ruins we might not make it out seeing how ancient it is, I think following it is our best option, how about the rest?"

"Most alchemists do not concern themselves with the morality of good and bad, right and wrong. Their research is their life, their practice is all that matters. There is a balance to be had when working alchemy, one comes to terms with the chaos of the universe and its myriad of components, learn to arrange and shape them to one's will. To those who have mastered the art, the outside world may seem... too bothersome for their tastes, already working on the next great theory or idea."
"With all things inherently dangerous, I advice caution, but I honestly don't think we are in mortal danger. And since we took the initiative to follow it inside, I say we continue." Ruken talks confidently enough, even though they are in an unknown place, full of potential unknown dangers. Perhaps he has finally grown comfortable with the idea that the group has his back and that he can rely on them to do what they do best, dispose of bad things!
However... he looks over his shoulder every now and then, just in case. Old habits never die.

Thorgrim shakes his head, "We could get lost either way. I don't trust that unnatural mechanical contraption but it is the only thing moving around here. We might as well keep following it but I'm not going to let my guard down."
Thorgrim will follow the others keeping a close watch for anything coming up behind them.

Re: The Alchemist Lab
Sense is a skill you could use kind of like intuition so it could work if trying to see an ambush.Blazeguard wrote:Thorgrim stops at the intersection and looks east trying to gauge what might be down that corridor.

SENSE (15%): A success alerts the character to anomalies, or strangeness in the area. It is the skill that raises lets the character know that something is not quite right. The Adventurer might detect a poison or drug in wine or food, or notice the lingering scent of an animal, or identify the origin of a perfume. He might get a subtle hint that danger is afoot, or that something has been recently moved.
The party continues north. You pass a set of small open rooms to the west that have 10'x10' pits carved into the floor. You cannot see the bottom.
As you follow the mechanical insect, The dwarves feel the air ahead being pushed aside by something quite large. Their Earthsense pick up on a large humanoid who seems to be pushing something.
Thorgrim is first to hear the rolling of sqeaky wheels and heavy foot prints approaching. In the dimming light Craxzus' keen elf vision sees the flicker of metal ahead. Possible plate mail!
A few moments later it comes into view. What looks like an extremely large man in plate armor is pushing a mine cart.

"I wonder... is that even a man? Do they grow that big?" The gnome's voice is excited, but mixed with fear and confusion, a natural response to encountering something much bigger than he. "Eirenaios, you think this could be a... oh what do mages call those things... a golem?"
