Enoch, are you willing to mend my backpack using the wineskin as supplies?

My reasoning is this: Every other mending/crafting trait uses Health as the BL trait (armorer, laborer, peasant, etc), so no matter what it will use Health.

Norgrim has Health 5 or Laborer 3 = 3D +1D (supplies) +1D (help from Ulrich's healer knowing how to stitch people up) +1D (Rand's survivalist knowing how to work leather and throw things together) = 6D.

Rand would be at BL 2D +3D (helpers) +1D supplies (wineskin) -1D (exhausted)= 4D.

Even if it is an Ob1 skill I am at -1D for exhausted and -1D for missing equipment, which would mean a minimum of Ob3. (I would describe one bit of help as getting to a dry seat on the clay so there is less water, negating that +1Ob.)

Thoughts?

Exhausted is +1 Ob, generally much worse than -1D!

I'm happy to make the attempt. Mines are rough on even tough clothing, so even if he's not specifically skilled at it I imagine he's stitched up a torn garment or two in his time.

Norgrim: Are you mending Rand's pack then? Cannibalizing the torn wineskin?

"Thanks or the offer to mend my pack, Norgrim. Let me offer you a leg up to the top of this minus of clay so you can work out of the deep water."
if this ends up being a laborer test and I can help with survivalist (or healer), I will spend a check so I can jump in on the test benefits. I only need 2 more laborer tests to have that skill.

Steven, as a healer, would Rand have needle and thread for stitching wounds? If so, would that negate the -1D for missing supplies?

Maybe I can offer Scout as help to scour the room for supplies that can help you in mending the pack

Healers have supplies for healing, not necessarily for skills related to patching up clothes. But that does sound like a good case for helping.

Norgrim takes the proffered backpack and the remnants of the wineskin, frowning from his perch atop the clay. "Might be I can use the skin as a patch." He digs through his pack, looking for a needle and thread.

Nothing in your pack per se. Do you look around the room for something? Maybe a fishhook?

"In the Handbook for a Wilderness Pilgrim, Marshen Buteo described using a piece of leather to make a thick thread by cutting it in a spiral. Perhaps if you used a section of the wineskin to make "thread," we could find something like an awl. Then you could pre-drill the holes and use the awl to feed the thread through."
like making a moccasin. You could even use a finger bone from Drum-Haak as the awl...

Not sure if you are asking Enoch or me that question, but just in case... I have made a pair of moccasins. They are pretty great but I made the ankle hole a bit small so they are hard to get on.

And on the topic of sewing awls, maybe Garen has something usable in his thieves tools set. :?

Norgrim does have Armorer, which is used for repairing leather armor, so it's not entirely unreasonable to assume he might have something useful! If not, perhaps we could use some of the clay as a glue of sorts. I'd prefer not to try to take Drum-Haak's fingers from him if we don't have to.

OK, I think we can agree that someone somewhere has some rudimentary sewing tools.

Does Norgrim mend Rand's pack? Does he use up the ripped wineskin?

"Anybody mind if I salvage the leather from this wineskin to repair the pack? Going once, going twice..." Norgrim dangles the torn wineskin from his perch atop the clay.

If nobody objects, then yes, I'll use the wineskin.

Whew!

Norgrim: Make an Ob 1 Peasant test (mending).
-1D for Injured, +1D for using the wineskin as supplies.

Ob1? I might have tried that, but I am still glad to have Enoch doing it considering our differences in Health.
Like I said, if healer (stitching wounds) or survivalist (jury-rigging tools) can help, Rand will throw in a die. If both could work, Ulrich has healer so that would be +2D. +3D if using the thieves tools counts as a helping die from criminal... *waits patiently to be told I am reaching*

I'll take Healer and Survivalist for helping, yeah totally. Not Criminal, though.

So an Ob1 BL Peasant test with +2D Help. Should be easy enough...which always makes me nervous. Health 5 -1D (Injured) + 2D = 6D, halved rounded up = 3D vs. Ob1. I'll go ahead and use Rough Hands against myself and take a check. So 2D vs. Ob 1.
[1d6] = 1 [1d6] = 2

Norgrim sits cross-legged on the clay, whistling happily as he stitches the remnants of the wineskin on the bottom of the pouch. However, Rough Hands made for hauling rock don't translate well to making precise, watertight stitches. His stitches are crude and widely-spaced, though he seems oblivious to this fact as he holds up the finished product for inspection.
