AAAUGHH!! Emm again releases her frustration as the now 4-legged foe seems to be making a clean getaway. In a last-ditch effort, she launches her spear at what remains of the Faerie Fire glow.

[1d20] = 5

The night air rings with cursing in Druidic.

In shocked disbelief, Hartnid glances down at the armor, touching the point where the axe struck his body with a curious, probing finger. He looks to his cousin, still incredulous at his own fortune.

Then, he notices the armored soldier still being assaulted by two figures. Grimacing and hefting his trusty flail, Hartnid makes his way over, and attempts to strike one of these aggressors.

Attack with flail: [1d20] = 4 to-hit, [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3 damage

As his foe falls Griffo looks takes a moment to assess the combat around himself. he makes a snap decision to help Caelvanna first then see if he can convince her to search for the Half-Orc that is calling for assistance. He rushes over to assist the Wild Elf. As he moves up beside her he swings his sword at the remaining foe.

To hit with Long Sword [1d20] = 4 Damage with Long Sword [1d8] = 8

Ulrich does likewise, swinging his staff and praying for Moradin's guiding hand.

Damage with staff [1d6] = 6

Day 1: Coast Trail (TOD: just after midnight)

Round 9

~ A pulse of green radiates from around the creature in the swirling fog. The continuous stream of bright grayish-blue energy from the elf’s wand suddenly disappears and the air grows somehow colder still. The only light left on the trail is the mage’s glowing red staff, popping and crackling more angrily than ever. Although the elf fumbles with the wand, he manages to fire off another bolt of red energy from the staff. It slams into the beast forcefully as it begins to turn back around to face the wizard again. The greenish fog continues spinning faster about it.

From the same spot amongst the brush north of the trail, another greenish-yellow bolt of lightning is launched towards the elven mage on the trail. This time, however, it flies over and past his head by easily 25 feet. A blood-curling scream echoes out from the spot that the errant bolt of lightning was launched.

Just north of the trail, the armored soldier continues to battle with the two remaining small humanoid warriors. They move around him at unnatural speed, striking out and landing vicious blows. He attempts to counter them with ever-increasingly desperate sweeps of his axe, missing his marks.

Having dispatched their single mutual opponent, the cousins Rachstaad look about and to each other quickly and then move to support the soldier. They charge in upon the last two humanoids facing the obviously-wounded, armored fighter. The small warriors appear completely unaware of the dwarves’ approach. Hartnid swings his heavy flail at his opponent with the element of surprise but is unprepared for its inhuman dexterity. Ulrich anticipates his opponent’s movement near-perfectly and catches it with a massive staff strike. The dark-skinned humanoid struck by the staff turns to face the dwarf clerics while the one that was missed continues to attack the soldier. Its last blow is solid and the armored soldier, dripping blood from many serious wounds, falls forward upon the soft underbrush with a grunt.

The wounded enemy facing Caelvanna snarls and reasserts its attack on the Wild elf, again just barely missing. She slashes back out in response but her own attack comes up short. Having dispatched his opponent, Griffo moves to support his fellow archer. He swings his bloodied longsword at the small humanoid with all his strength but it cuts only air as the warrior easily ducks his attack.

To the south of the trail, the sounds of melee can still be heard emanating from the brush. The burly soldier has moved out of sight and potentially joined Bog in fighting whomever or whatever is there. More blue sparks are occasionally seen flying from behind the stand of trees and thicket…

Back on the trail, the elderly half-elf female and the young nobleman continue to do whatever they can for the fallen half-elf and Gentleman Billy whilst Sheba continues to jump around and barks frantically.

To the rear of the group, the faerie-fired individual, easily visible in the darkness, tries to get to its feet and escape its human and elf attackers. Emm throws her spear but misses with a strange curse. Lauranna draws two daggers and throws them at the unknown figure. She just catches it with her first dagger but the hit is solid. Another effeminate cry mutters forth from the wounded individual as it makes it back onto the trail, to its feet and begins heading back east towards the direction of the clearing.

The gnomes continue to work feverishly on the fallen old man in the bright-colored robes lying to the side of the trail. Just behind the gnomes in the bushes, the old man continues to try and keep his young charge pulled down and out of view.

There’s still no sign of Thalion or Bog, although the half-orc’s voice was heard south of the trail from behind the stand of trees and thicket. The burly guard has moved into the brush there and is now out of sight. On the opposite (northern) side of the trail, there is still no sign of the half-elf archer and his glowing weapons. Back closer, there is still no indication of the older knight that flew through the air and hit the tree or the cloaked halfling.

Total damage taken by party members (seen on trail presently) during entire encounter:

Caelvanna: 6 points of weapon damage
Hartnid: 1 point of weapon damage
Griffo: 5 points of weapon damage
Armored soldier: 71 points of weapon damage taken and goes down*****

*************

Gentleman Billy: lying unconscious (due to ??) but stabilized; status unknown
Old Knight: lying unconscious/KIA? (impact that broke tree) somewhere in the brush; status unknown
Burly Guard#1: lying unconscious (felled by bolt/arrow); status unknown
Old Man in colorful robes: lying unconscious (felled by bolt/arrow) but being attended by the gnomes; status still unknown
Old Half-elf Man: just felled from bolt/arrow but being attended to by both the half-elf woman and the young nobleman.

**** PMs going out to all PCs later today*, please wait for these before you respond with your declared actions for Round 10! ****

Initiative, Round 9: Alethan rolled a 5 for the party; the baddies rolled another 6! With the light from the elf’s wand now gone, the area around the trail has been plunged back into mostly darkness, save the elf’s staff that’s still glowing red. The flash of red energy that shot out from the staff as well as the green-yellow bolt of lightning illuminated the area momentarily. (The d100 roll for factors still unknown. )

Initiative, Round 10: I need tkrexx to roll a d6 for the party.

Northern Line: (3 fighting warriors seen remaining at moment)
- 1 now-headless pin-cushioned humanoid archer (courtesy fast armored soldier) and 5 archers dropped (2 on far left, 1 on far right (by Caelvanna) and the 2 from the middle of the line by the unnaturally fast armored soldier)

Caelvanna, determined to escape from her melee quickly, lashes out with her short sword. She issues a frustrated grunt, not sure if her attempt was able to nick her opponent or not.

A grim smile is the only response from the diminutive fighter as he focuses on his target.

Swallowing deeply, Hartnid flexes his grip on the haft of his flail. With a lunging motion, he attempts to strike his opponent on the right side, hoping that even if his blow doesn't land true, he'll distract his enemy enough for his cousin to strike on the left.

Attack with flail: [1d20] = 11 to-hit, [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3 damage

Emm will quickly draw her scimitar and take after the loping individual heading back east. She's sure it's greiviously injured, however, already noting it's speed, she will not pursue if she feels she is being outdistanced. No way will she be caught in the dark for an ambush, nor will she stray far from the Old Man with the child.

EDIT: Emm's quarry moves a bit slower than before, possibly due to blood loss, or perhaps Emm herself has a burst of speed from adrenalin. She fiercely swings her blade at the unprotected back before it can escape.

[1d20] = 18 +2 Farie Fire = 20

[1d8] = 3

Lauranna is surprised to see the foe run away with such speed after sustaining such damage, so quickly makes up her mind.

As a last ditch effort, she launches a dagger in it's direction.

[1d20+5] = 14+5 = 19 to hit, rd10, dagger1
[1d4] = 2 damage rd10, dagger1

Then chases the faerie fire into the night.

OOC: I hope 2 more damage does it.

Day 1: Coast Trail (TOD: just after midnight)

Round 10

~ The elven wizard wastes no time in taking advantage of the slow-moving creature as it continues its lethargic rotation to face him once again. He drops the wand that malfunctioned and quickly draws the wand he had used previous, firing it off at the side of the beast’s head. A brilliant flash and crackle erupts in the near-frozen night air and bathes the entire area in bright white light. The wand’s light is immediately dimmed by the dark green swirling energy surrounding the creature but still glows brightly enough at the point of impact. The elf’s angry red staff continues to wail its humming and popping displeasures but also begins to form what appears to be another reddish globe of energy about the wizard. The creature continues its turnabout and lets forth an angry rumble that speeds throughout the cold coastal forest floor.

The thick brush north of the trail where the greenish-yellow bolt of lightning was fired from is now both dark and silent since the horrid, unknown scream echoed forth. To the south of the trail near where the old knight was flung through the air and hit the tree, a bluish glow begins to emanate and grow brighter from somewhere in the brush…

The bright burst of light from the elf’s wand up ahead again assails the obviously oversensitive night-sight of the three remaining humanoid warriors of the northern line, causing them to shield their eyes and momentarily look away...

Now that the armored soldier has finally fallen, the cousins Rachstaad face off against the two remaining humanoid warriors that just brought him down. One stands to face them while the other one draws a dark green glowing dagger and jumps on the fallen soldier. Hartnid wastes no time and swings his bloodied weapon at their waiting opponent in a sweeping arc. Although the humanoid flinches away from the strike to cover its eyes, the heavy flail catches the unusual dark spear in its single-handed grasp. With a quick flash of red, the spear is sent flying through the cold night air! The humanoid, even with eyes shielded to the bright light ahead, looks at him incredulously just in time to receive a barely-connecting jab of Ulrich’s trusty staff. He catches the strange tattooed warrior in the left side with another modest hit. The dark-skinned humanoid staggers from the blow but stays on its feet somehow. It snarls and draws a dark-green glowing dagger from its beltline and begins trying to circle the clerics to have the bright light at its back. Even injured, it’s agile and moves unnaturally fast.

Caelvanna sees their mutual enemy look away from the bright light and try to shield its eyes. She lunges forward quickly with a desperate thrust of her sword and just catches the humanoid with a modest shot. It snarls and instinctively shifts away from her attack right onto the blade of Griffo’s longsword. Its glowing yellow eyes grow first big and then dark and it falls to the soft coastal valley floor.

To the south of the trail, the hidden melee continues just behind the stand of trees and large thicket. A greenish-red flash and loud metal on metal clap emanate from the scene. A voice can be heard groaning in pain as another noticeably snarls and growls its displeasure about something...

Back on the trail, the elderly half-elf female and young nobleman continue to offer ministrations of unknown effect to the fallen half-elf and Gentleman Billy. Sheba stops barking and jumping around to focus on a bluish glow emanating from the brush near where the old knight went down.

To the rear of the group, the faerie-fired figure is now on its feet and beginning to move eastward down the trail in an attempt to escape its two persistent adversaries. Although missing with her spear previous, Emm is emboldened. She draws her scimitar and quickly moves around a thicket to try and intercept. Lauranna gracefully steps to the other side while drawing another dagger, and hurls it with now solid aim, hitting the unknown figure in the upper right thigh. The fleeing assailant stumbles just long enough for the druid to lunge out and catch it with her blade. Another effeminate yet much deeper cry is uttered by the glowing-purple individual as it falls forward to the soft dirt of the trail. Although it still continues to try and crawl away, the summation of all its combined wounds has finally begun to show…

The gnome couple still continue to work dutifully on the fallen old man in the bright-colored robes. They are now pouring more fluids around his chest wound and shoving something in his mouth. Just across the trail in the bushes, the old man and young child continue to hide and occasionally fidget, but are still out of view.

There’s still no sign of Thalion, Bog, the burly guard that moved into the brush towards the half-orc’s voice, or the cloaked halfling. On the opposite (northern) side of the trail, all is dark and still and there still be no sign of the half-elf archer.

Total damage taken by party members (seen on trail presently) during entire encounter:

Caelvanna: 6 points of weapon damage
Hartnid: 1 point of weapon damage
Griffo: 5 points of weapon damage
*************

Gentleman Billy: lying unconscious (due to ??) but stabilized; status unknown
Old Knight: lying unconscious/KIA? (impact that broke tree) somewhere in the brush; status unknown (but there does appear to be something glowing near where he went down!)
Armored soldier: lying unconscious/KIA?; status unknown. Still being attacked or molested in some way by one of the remaining humanoid warriors.

**** PMs going out to PCs off the trail, and also to some others with situational details only they are privy to prior to Round 11! ****

Initiative, Round 10: tkrexx rolled a 3 for the party; the baddies rolled a 1!
~ The burst of light from the elf’s wand is back and the area around the trail has once again been lit up fairly well, giving the party a +2 to hit the remaining three humanoids while they suffer from it.

Glancing at the downed figure Griffo turns to Caelvanna and says. "Quickly lets see to that half-orc. It sounds like he may be in trouble." Without waiting for a reply he hurries off towards the sound of combat. Slowing down to move quietly at what he perceives to be a dozen feet away or so. While being prepared to unleash a storm of arrows if he spots a target.

Caelvanna quickly wipes clean the blade of her short sword and returns it to its sheath on her hip.

I like this one, she thinks to herself as she watchers her diminutive friend scamper off. As she begins to follow after the halfling, she switches to her bow and instinctively gives a few quick tugs on her bowstring. Finally, she thinks, her confidence fully restored now that her favored weapon is back in hand.

Haah! Emm shouts, jumping ahead of the now crawling, bloody figure on the trail to block it's escape. She levels her scimitar at her foe threateningly, the point of her blade touching it's neck with force. Move again and I will pin your face to the earth! You have lives to answer for, villian!

If the injured foe fails to comply, Emm will carry out her threat. She glances momentarily at the Elfmaid who helped her bring down this assassin. Rope!

Her goal is information from a live captive. She seeks details about this attack, of the numbers and locations of enemies still alive, of possible treachery, and what to expect if the attack fails. Above all, she wants to know the whereabouts and condition of her Master!
