Merthyr the half elven fighter/magic-user rushes ahead of Sammy without blocking him off, delivering a side slash at the running kobold.
Bastard sword to hit: [1d20+1] = 9+1 = 10, damage vs S/M opp: [2d4+2] = 2+2 = 4
His strike misses due to trying to keep up with the little bugger.
Sammy the barbarian takes a swing at the same kobold with his two-handed sword while in motion.
[1d20+1] = 10+1 = 11 to hit [1d10+1] = 6+1 = 7 damage
Again, Sammy misses. The kobold continues to run into the next room west, screaming as loudly as he can.
There are other sounds coming from the room the kobold is running to. Sammy and Merthyr both hear the screams of a male that sounds gagged, and apparently caged. He is pleading for help and thrashing around against metal bars where the kobolds have caged him in the northeast corner of the next room. Sammy and Merthyr can see into the room as they chase the kobold down and realize this room, too, is empty of any kobolds, but they see a blonde elf in the cage. He is wearing studded leather armor, but he seems to have no belongings or weapons aside from his own clothing. They have been taken from him and are being held somewhere else by the kobolds.
This new room is lit by 6 torches on the walls and there are 20 kobold sized bedrolls lain out along the walls. There are dirty clothes heaped all over the place and this is apparently some sort of kobold barracks room. The last remaining kobold here is the one that is currently running into the room away from Sammy and Merthyr. There is a closed wooden door in the middle of the west wall, the direction the kobold is running.
Trendt the dwarven cleric has decided to follow Rubesca out of the room and around to the south where the rest of the party is. Dakara the cleric doesn't think it wise to leave Sammy and Merthyr alone and follows them in their kobold chase, as does Corun the ranger. Coppish is still in the same room. The mule is staring at him, but calm.
Rubesca the cleric has heard Adel the monk shout a warning that two kobolds are headed in her direction. She takes up position at the doorway, flat up against the wall, intending to surprise attack them when they show up. She motions to Trendt to get ready.
Cave Map & Party Positions
Adel has shouted a warning to the others further north that two kobolds are headed their way.
Gwennethel has secured a kobold prisoner and dragged him into the room where Biblo waits to question him. She then goes back into the cave entrance to retrieve all of the arrows that she, Freddie and Gwydion had lost out there. She keeps a close eye on the two kobolds running south to see how they managed to get in here in the first place. Adel is out there with her, gathering his spears together and also watching the two kobolds running south.
Freddie the Fop takes his arrows from Gwennethel and also searches around for more spiders, trying to avoid Jenn. Jenn is following him very closely, absolutely certain he will die if she isn't there as his "good luck charm". The coins on her bra, belt, and her remaining jewelry all jingle noisily whenever she moves.
Llewellyn the assassin and lawyer scans the ceilings, wary of a surprise attack against more huge spiders. At present, he doesn't see any and can't tell which room the now dead spider came from.
Gwydion, elven ranger, chases down the two kobolds that are heading north and his speed overtakes them. He is right on their heels when he tries another attack with sword and dagger.
To hit: [1d20+2] = 2+2 = 4, damage with sword: [1d8+2] = 8+2 = 10
To hit: [1d20-1] = 2-1 = 1, damage with dagger: [1d4+2] = 2+2 = 4
Both strikes miss due to the high speed chase and the kobolds begin screaming, giving away their positions to the two waiting for them in the northwest room.
Gwennethel and Adel both see the kobolds pull a lever that is hidden behind a torch on the stone wall in the south room. A secret door opens up, apparently having shut itself, along the westernmost side of the southern wall. The kobolds are going through the wall there to disappear into darkness beyond.
Biblo's Kobold Torture and Questioning
Biblo the book lover and illusionist sits the kobold prisoner down in a chair after checking his bonds to make sure they're tight. He ties him down into the chair and begins by bending the kobold's right index finger back so far that it breaks. The kobold screams in unbelievable pain.
Biblo: "Do I have your attention dog!" He is speaking in the kobold tongue now.
The kobold is writhing frantically against his bonds and screaming when Biblo delivers his questions.
Biblo: "Tell me now how many of you there are! What are your plans! Where is the secret door from whence you came? Describe the caves beyond that door!" He pulls out the miniature kobold figurine he grabbed up earlier and threatens to pluck out the kobold's eye with it. "Tell me now dog or you will wish for death!"
The kobold moves back into the chair as far away from the figurine as possible and screeches out its answers.
Kobold: "I don't know how many! I swear it! We have been warring with goblins! They have reduced many of our numbers as we have reduced many of theirs. We have them locked up here in the cave, but they manage to escape now and again. We have killed off their women, children and chieftains, but they have done the same to us. We are trying to starve them to death. We have no master other than our surviving chiefs! Our own women and children have been killed off as well! They have destroyed our eggs! Secret door... south! In wall! Lever behind torch! We were planning to live off of the villagers until we could rebuild our numbers and wait out the stinking goblins life spans! But they get out now and again and steal water and food, so they still live behind barred door! They are locked up again and our big statues should hold them now."
