IC XIV
Re: IC XIV
Sever, Elf
"That's...ominous."
Severi suggests checking the east and west doors, but mostly working quietly toward the hammering sound.

Rhys the Traveler
Rhys nods and quietly examines the doors and listens at them to see if he can hear anything.

Tev had already been checking the western door.Atlictoatl wrote:Tev Meren, Fighter
He'll listen at the western door while the others are looking around.

Re: IC XIV
Quint Kacie
"It's almost as if the very stone has flowed down over the bones..." Quint says to himself, as much as out loud.
Curious, he prods at the surface of the pillar around the skull with the end of his staff to see if it has any "give" or seems less than solid in any way, and looks up towards the top of the columns to see what the cavern ceiling looks like around them. Unless something seems (more) unnatural about it, he'll turn his attention back to the group and the danger faced once he's satisfied with his examination.

Re: IC XIV
A closer examination reveals more bones entombed within the column. Quint gives the column a prod with his staff, and the wooden shaft sinks several inches into the column, almost as if the material were absorbing it! The mage gives his weapon a tug; for an instant it feels as if the subsuming structural support might relinquish its grasp, but it does not, and Quint is unable to pull the staff free.
Both doors appear unlocked and free of traps. The hammering sound seems to be coming from the open archway, although the aural quality in this room is . . . strange. Sounds are somewhat muted and carry an almost undetectable liquid sound.

Severi
Severi blanches, as the implications hit him. "Do NOT touch those columns, or for that matter come within five feet of them."

Tev Meren, Fighter
"Huh? What?" asks Tev, backing away from the columns, where he'd commenced tugging on the staff to help Quint out.

Quint Kacie, Scholar-Mage
"Touch it? Certainly not - at least not without further study first, and under safer circumstances," he responds off-handedly.
He grips his staff more tightly and continues to try to twist and pull it free, a bit annoyed he hadn't used something else to test the "stone".

Re: IC XIV
Tightening his grip, the magus again attempts to wrench his staff loose, to no avail. Worse still, it feels as if the wood is being slowly yet inexorably drawn into the column!

Tev Meren, Fighter
Tev draws his sword and offers to cut Quint's staff into two pieces, that he might have some part of the thing back.

Quint Kacie
"Bah! Yes, best to cut it off before more gets engulfed. Thank you, Tev."
After freeing what they can, Quint turns his attention back to the others. "Which way then?"

Re: IC XIV
Tev cuts the staff in twain with little difficulty. The remaining bit protrudes from the column, quivering, like a large coathook. There is still enough of the staff left so as to be useful.

Severi, again, suggests listening at the two side doors before proceeding towards the hammering sounds.

Re: IC XIV
Severi hears guttural laughter from behind the eastern door, and nothing from the western door.
Re: IC XIV
Severi motions everyone into formation, and then throws the door wide.
