I. Entry
Re: I. Entry
Abelard gasps in surprise, drops his mace and shield, and rushes to the female cleric's side.
He tries desperately to staunch the bleeding, grabbing the nearest piece of clothing to press on the wound. But... There is so much blood! It only stops flowing when her heart stops bleeding.
He bends over the third body in the room and lowers his head in silent prayer. He straightens up then removes her holy symbol from around her neck, saying, "I'll return this to your order..."

Re: I. Entry
Kernodle just shakes his head. He cannot enjoy the triumph over the beetle, knowing it cost him a possible rescuer.
He looks at the others, Irony is not kind. Survive the fall just to be crushed by a beetle. We need to be diligent if we are to make it out of here.
With that, he looks through her stuff for anything useful. It seems shallow to rummage while her body is still warm, but it may save our lives.

Re: I. Entry
Mulvey looks at the lifeless cleric's body with a dim disquiet. "Let us hope this is the last danger we will face on our way out of this pit."
He turns to Kernodle, and begrudgingly mumbles "well done, dwarf. If my bow was as true as your sword we would still be four."
He sizes up Thena's armor to see if it would fit him. "I could make use of her chain mail if no other wishes to lay claim."
Edit: Mulvey examines the rubble pile to recover his arrow if possible.

Re: I. Entry
Mulvey is pleasantly surprised to discover that the chain armor Thena wore, while bloodied, will fit. A bit oddly in places, but it will be serviceable.

Re: I. Entry
"I have no more right to this coat of mail than either of you. Kernodle given the quality of your armor I assume you don't want it. Abelard, speak if you want it...perhaps we can flip a coin for possession. I would ask for your studded armor if you take the chain. This doesn't do much to protect me" says Mulvey, tugging on the shoulder of his leather armor.
Re: I. Entry
"I could hardly bear the weight - physically or emotionally," Abe replies sadly, staring at the young woman's body.
He stands, placing the silver holy symbol around his neck, and looks through her pack. Spying a vial of holy water, he says, "This might come in handy..." and places it in his pack.

Re: I. Entry
Mulvey carefully removes Thena's chain mail. He then walks over to the water and washes off the blood. He also grabs a pint of oil. "Right. What now? Continue to dig thorough the rubble? It also looks like the caverns goes up and to the north."
Re: I. Entry
Kernodle shakes his head. No, I feel we must continue looking in this direction. Or else, her life would have ended in vain.

Re: I. Entry
For sake of clarification, the"up and to the north" is actually just up - it's the chute down which you were deposited into the room and, unless you can figure out how to climb up and out of quicksand, you're going to need to discover another way out.AleBelly wrote:It also looks like the caverns goes up and to the north."

Re: I. Entry
Mulvey will crawl into the opening vacated by the beetle, going no farther than his waist. He will try to use his infravision to see what lies beyond (inside?) the rubble. "I'm going to see if I can get a look at what lies beyond. Please pull my legs if I scream!"
Re: I. Entry
Mulvey begins his inspection of what's beyond the opening created by the joint efforts of Kernodle and the beetle. The elf backs into the cavern to relay that beyond their location is a passage which extends about 25 feet and ends in a 'Y' intersection.
The form is quickly identified as being human with long black hair, now mixed with wet sand. They're armed with a sword.

Suddenly, from above and behind the group, the chute which originally deposited you all into your current location bursts into high activity, as if it's being triggered again. There's a flurry of noise as the water and sand mixture begin to pour into the room at a rapid rate. After a few seconds, a form is deposited into the room. The form is quickly identified as being human with long black hair, now mixed with wet sand. They're armed with a sword.

Re: I. Entry
Luken gets to his feet as fast as possible. Looking around in a panic, no weapon drawn, he'll finally look up to see where he just came from and then slowly down at the other occupants of the cavern. Eyes dodging from person to person then at the dead bodies. He'll rest his hand on the pommel of his sword: Wha... what is going on here...

Kernodle answers back, watching how he must have looked just moments before.
"What" is that you must have fallen into the same trap we did. If you aren't hurt, shake off the sand and grab whatever gear you may need from these corpses. The female, we were with at her demise. The others, we aren't sure what happened.
Oh, my name's Kernodle.

Re: I. Entry
Just checking in from my phone and wanted to make a quick note regarding the latest map.
The big white section to the north of the 'Y' intersection is not a cavern or open space. I just removed the formatting from that area in the spreadsheet I built the map in and now realize it looks a bit confusing.
I'll figure something out for future maps.

Re: I. Entry
"Relax, swordsman. If you're a Seasider, you're amongst friends." Mulvey glances at the dwarf "or at least, we're all bound by a common cause. I'm Mulvey. Careful down here, we've already lost someone to one of the cavern's denizens."
Re: I. Entry
"And I'm Abelard, but you can call me Abe. What is your name, friend?" Abe asks before eyeing the sand chute to see if any more people are forthcoming.

Re: I. Entry
Lurken starts to swipe some or the sand off of his armor: I'm not sure I need anything other than to get back up there. He will say with a finger pointed up for a moment. The name is Lurken, I was traveling along the beach and it appears it swallowed me also. It's good to make your acquaintance. Since we are all in the same quagmire I'm sure we can make the best of it. What was your next plan of action? He will say to to no one specific.

Re: I. Entry
Mulvey thinks. "If we want to get out looks like we have to go through the rubble. The only sensible thing is for the dwarf or me to scout each direction a bit. The lantern light would give us away. Kernodle, how about a coin flip to see who gets the, um, honor?
Re: I. Entry
Kernodle eyes him suspiciously...

Re: I. Entry
"I suppose it's only natural to ask an elf to lead when bravery is called for" Mulvey goads with an impish grin. "I'll go first and look into the left passage, moving forward just far enough to allow you to look in the right."
Mulvey then proceeds to execute his plan, moving as quietly as possible.
